"Petticoat Junction Officially Ended After This Happened". After what happened? It ended for the same reason as most other shows eventually end: They no longer do well in the ratings. You seem to imply that the show ended because of some ominous reason. In fact, Petticoat Junction, Green Acres, and The Beverly Hillbillies all were cancelled at the same time. The CBS "Rural Purge" of 1971.
Exactly! CBS went to a new format which included Dragnet, Adam 12, Kojac, Emergency, etc. I recall reading one of the CBS big wigs saying they didn't want to see a green tree anywhere.
I still watch this heart warming show today at age 62. It has been a favorite along with Greenacres and Beverly Hillbillies. The rich characters make them timeless. Thankyou for making them available to watch!
God, I hated Green Acres! I wanted to shoot everybody on that show, especially that damned Mr. Haney! My brother was bigger than me and he loved the show, so that's what we watched.
My favorite episode of Petticoat Junction was when three railroad tycoons had put their heads together about how to replace a needed cast iron lever that had been accidentally broken on the Cannon Ball. One provided the source from a vintage antique replica train locomotive. Another provided the means of transporting the needed part. All three rich railroad enthusiasts made it look like great fun what they were doing. The social chemistry between all of the characters had been a masterpiece. Wish there had been more of that kind of enjoyable thing to have watched on TV.
No offense, but isn’t your generation the one that got radicalized through Facebook and stormed the capitol? I recognize it wasn’t the baby boomers alone, but they make up a large majority of those people.
@Doug Spooner I said exactly that at the end of my statement, it’s not only the boomers who participated or have done things like that, but they make up the majority who have been radicalized through fb.
@Doug Spooner well I don’t understand what your asking me to compare? The January 6th insurrection vs riots that came about from protests in the summer of 2020? If that’s the case I think the January 6th insurrection is worse, but I also think riots and looting are bad no matter the age of the people doing it. All of that being said, I understand the frustration that led to the protests getting out of control in the summer of 2020.
I was born 1966 and I CLEARLY remember that this was one of my absolute favorite TV shows (along with Speed Racer and the Superman/Batman cartoon show, The Little Rascal's, and Hee Haw) because of the theme song as well as the the three girls in the Water Tower during the opening. My parents code words to remind me that that the show was about to come on was "Here come your girls!".
@@skillzsett7958 I really loved Petticoat Junction, I thought Ms Kate was the most charming and wonderful lady in the world. Her three daughters were nice girls too. I had a crush on Bobby Joe.
I remember as a young man, enjoying the show for the visual I candy that the girls produced. I really enjoyed the show to be honest more than I ever anybody know. And this look back really makes me nostalgic and miss the old days when TV was fun and wholesome and girls didn’t have to show every ounce of flesh to make you look at them twice and they were absolutely natural girls they were all natural beauties. Fun show enjoy the video.
I just remember watching it with my family. We all watched together. A wonderful show from the 60's. As a kid, I missed Bea Benaderet! She made the show! I had no idea she was sick. So sad. She was a wonderful talented, beautiful woman! I can't remember when she came back? But My parents told me that she had passed on. 😟
Bob U.S.A. I really liked watching Pettycoat Junction.Everytime id watch the reruns they would bring back fond memories.Very great show. Thanks for the memories.
There are so many things in this show like my own childhood. My Mom is a McCoy; I grew up on the farm, lots of chugging tractors around, picking apples, making fresh pies ... And the gardens! We had a huge one across the "crik", a small one right beside the house, and a 5 acre field that switched between corn and potatoes every year for Grandpa and his 3 girls' families to share. Sure loved canning sweet corn! Grandpa McCoy (Lawrence, married to Myrtle Gorby), passed away, and I lost Mom a few years ago to sudden and painful cancer. This show brings back many happy memories, because we would watch it at Grandma and Grandpa McCoys house. Thank you for the happy nostalgia 🥰💗❣️❤️
I grew up watching the reruns in the late 70’s and early 80’s lol. Nowadays you couldn’t get a kid to sit still long enough to watch the intro let alone an entire episode lol It’s sad really. Those shows were good wholesome fun and didn’t rot your brain or turn you into a perv lol

Nice post. I enjoyed it thoroughly. Please feel free to correct my memory but I seem to recall in the early 70's reading and hearing about some sort of letter writing campaign opposing shows that depicted rural life in 1971, when most of the "classics" were cancelled. My Three Sons , the 3 shows featured here. There were other also.... I'm at a loss to recall at this time some of the others caught up in the mess. I recall the 1st season (1962) of the Beverly Hillbilly's and how much our family enjoyed it. It was fresh and funny, at least in my parents house. I can still hear my Mom laughing and the chatter between her and my Dad. The internet and modern technologies have allowed me to revisit many of the episodes and I find it enjoyable when I see one that takes me back. Thank You!

LOVED THIS SHOW AND ALL THE OTHER SHOWS! I was in my single digits, age wise, BUT, remember these shows, and LOVE(d) them! Still do love. Nostalgia, memories. BEST of TV. I had to see them in black and white ... when they became in color, because we did not get a color TV until around mid-1972. And when we did get a color TV, came on a Saturday morning, as I remember: when they set up the TV and "they" turned the TV on, there were Saturday morning cartoons. So to this day, now, I watch the reruns IN COLOR, and watch because it brings back memories, the best of times.

Hard to believe, but Higgin's handler said he was rescued from the pound and trained. He recognized an extra kind of smart in him. Higgins was born the same year as me.
Thanks for the nice overview of the show. For no particular reason, I started watching the first season, one episode per night and have actually become fond of the program (it was on while I was growing up, but I never watched it). I like the folksy innocence of it and the characters are like old friends, with often have wonderful moral lessons (like the time Betty Jo allowed Pixley Fats to win the horseshoes tournament). Watching these, it became obvious that Mr. Drucker was a man of many hats! Just how many occupations did that guy have, anyway! So far, he's been a store owner, the local magistrate, and owner and editor of the local newspaper--and that's just the first season. I certainly hope I can find more episodes to watch! Uncle Joe's favorite line: "That's pathetic!" 😉
One thing I remember about this show is that I never noticed that they recast both older daughters. I watched the show through it’s entire original run and never realized that until years later….lol
My grandmother told me they only got about 8 channels back then so you watched what you could. Even though I missed all those great shows back then, I get a channel with all the reruns. Really love them!.
I REMEMBER THE TRAIN BECAUSE MY DAD WOULD RUN HO TRAINS ON A 4'× 8' TWO TRACK MAIN LINE. I STILL MODEL HO TRAINS AND HAVE A HUGE LAYOUT IN THE BASEMENT. THE SHOW MADE ME LOVE STEAM ENGINES TOO
My favorite was Uncle Joe and I loved the train. I watched it as a child, when we were unable to afford a color tv. Had I been able to watch in color, I’d have been absolutely obsessed with that train!
I loved Petticoat Junction. And Uncle Joe! And somehow I remember the dogs name was really Higgins. And I do remember he played Benji too. Lots of fun memories.
Sharon Tate managed to do a few Beverly Hillbillies episodes (with a dark wig). Besides the Ladybugs bit, the girls sang as a legitimate trio in the series and appeared on some variety shows -- and probably cut an album or two.
How stupid to fire Sharon Tate over thatMeredith MacCrae was my favorite Billie-Jo, but if Sharon Tate stepped in (and if they let her stay), she would have been awesome.
@@joeshmoe7789 I had no idea. That could be the reason she was asked to wear the brunette wig as Janet Trago, to hide her identity so there'd be "no shame" cast upon the set. How ridiculous. I would love to have seen her as Elly May, and she was from Texas, the southern accent would have been no problem. All southern accents sound alike to us northerners (Chicago).
I have four favorite characters from this show: Kate, Uncle Joe, Sam Drucker, and that lovable mutt, Higgins. I guess my favorite episode is "With This Gown I Thee Wed" (the preacher talks about the obligations of marriage; you sure don't hear THAT on TV now). By far, the saddest episode is "The Valley Has a Baby", the last one featuring Kate. Everyone on the show knew Bea Benaderet was dying as they filmed it, and their emotions show.
Petticoat Junction was my favorite something about that show just had a real common affect Paul Henning was a genius I really love the shows that featured Homer bedlow
Great vid for fans of Paul Henning shows. My favourite was Green Acres! The cast was perfect and the scripts reach a level of absurdity that is sublime! Watched the entire series 4 times... so far.
We operate a small farm in Oregon. Many of the scripts themes of country living problems are vary close to reality. Problems with tractors, telephone lines, electrical service. We can identify with many of the scripts as we have had to deal with the same problems!
I remember that show. When i was in elementary every day. After school i would come home and watch Petticoat Junction. Along with my favorite cartoons. Yes indeed those were the good old days.
Hooterville became my name for Greenville Michigan in the 1980's. They had a little hotel/restaurant (The Winter Inn), train service, and a fellow that sold used cars, odometer's turned back. The Hotel is still there and the food is excellent.
I only got to watch the show in black and white, till I was grown. I had dogs around my house when I was young, the dog didn't stand out too much to me. I enjoy Uncle Joe, my granddad passed when I was 12 and I missed him. I had pretty sisters when I was young, and that time the girls didn't mean much. But I did enjoy watching the shows, Greenacres , Petticoat Junction, and The Beverly Hillbillies. It's kind of like watching everyday folks around my house. Thanks for bringing it up.
Had to comment. I also grew up watching these Henning creations. I think I saw more "Petticoat Junction" episodes because they aired on Saturday evenings - if I rightly recall. Seeing the girls pull their petticoats from hanging on the water tower always gave me strange feelings. I was what, eight, ten, and had the impression that they had been bathing - which meant they weren't wearing anything. I didn't know anything about women's underwear and less about female anatomy; still, there was that uncomfortable stirring inside me - and the pre-teen curiosity. "Petticoat Junction" was fun and I don't recall any overtly sexual aspects except the water tower scene - and later, the romance involving the crop-duster. Bea Benaderet(?) was a gem to me - the stabilizing force of the show. I didn't know her status as a performer - or that she voiced Betty of "The Flintstones," but I had a hint that she was well-respected in the industry, and her acting spoke for itself. Of course, Edgar Buchanan, as cantankerous Uncle Joe, was always a scene-stealer - and like Bea, he contributed to the quality of the production. You can't beat those seasoned, old character actors. I had no idea 1500 actresses vied for the parts of Billie Jo, Bobbie Jo, and Betty Jo. Makes me think of the search for Scarlett O'Hara. Those were my formative years - and I do have many fond memories. I wouldn't want to go back, yet I know those were good times and I appreciate the experiences of watching shows like "Petticoat Junction." Thank you for fleshing out some of the murky details and sharing good memories with folk like myself.
I watch it just about every time it’s in reruns. Mom introduced me to it, she knew, I’d love it as much as she did. My favorite episodes is when, Granny came to help with Bobby Joe’s baby colic and, granny kept declaring to everyone that Bobby Joe’s baby was the ugliest baby she ever had seen. Lol
I still watch these shows today and occasionally very not so often I am lucky enough to see an episode that either I didn’t remember or somehow I never saw those are great days thanks of all your UA-cam things this was the one I have enjoyed the most thank you sir
I do miss the simpler times of when I was growing up in the 70’s and 80’s. I watched all these shows on reruns not realising that they were from the 60’s lol. I think all the advancements in technology etc serve a purpose but I think as a culture we are worse off then we were before it all changed. I remember as a kid taking off on a Saturday morning and not coming home until dinner time. No cell phones for parents to keep track of you every 5 minutes lol. It was wonderful. Kids today are filled with fear and anxiety for no real reason. Today if a parent doesn’t know the exact location of their kids every second they’re considered bad parents. Id be gone all day and my parents had no idea where me and my friends were. We were free thats where we were lol
I miss the days when the family could sit and watch a TV show together. The children saw a wholesome show with good people. While the adults caught the double entendres and saw a whole different show. Nowdays its all right in your face n I don't think there's much on TV that I would let a child watch. Take Care All
I have DishNetwork Satellite & I have seen them on one channel several times. I can't remember which one at the moment but I will find out for you & post it here on this comment if you want me to!
It seems, that beginning with Season 4, the show gradually moved away from cornpone, and occasionally, slapstick comedy, to more singing and musical numbers. Other than season one's The Ladybugs, the first three seasons had only occasional singing, and even at that, it was mostly traditional folk song. But from the 1966'67 season on; the started doing more show stopping musical numbers, and in some instances, a full orchestra could be heard!
Petticoat Junction was one of my favorite TV shows when I was a child (I’m old). Even though it’s cheesy by today’s standards, there was something quite wholesome about Betty Jo & Steve’s romance that had me wishing I lived at the “Shady Rest” with the rest of the Bradley girls ☺️. Uncle Joe was a lazy old coot but he had a good heart 💜
This was the best of the three shows in the Hooterville universe (Beverly Hillbillies, PJ, & Green Acres). What was remarkable is how seamless and beliveable the crossover episodes are.
Wow another well done video on another old favorite show. I love learning these little details and getting the back story. Thank you for the great memories.
I loved it. More importantly, my parents loved it too. And they most definitely did NOT like The Beverly Hillbillies. So the TV set was off when they were on. But we all sang along to "There's a little hotel called the Shady Rest at the Junction" Thanks for SO much interesting detail - all of it unknown to me. Except for the illness and death of Bea Benaderet - that was a real-life loss which caused much sadness to millions of ordinary people who followed the show.
Thanks Paul Henning for these shows, we could step back and laugh at some really funny stuff. Unlike the shit on now thanks again for your creativity..
Lori Saunders the most prettiest girl on TV back then and when she was on Dustys Trail too she's actually probably the reason i watched this shows but great comedy unlike today's garbage
@@jackdarbyshire5888 I didn't mean Linda Henning. She's the redhead- cute, but I mean the first brunette, in the b& w episodes before Lori. Lori was cute too, though. They all were.
When it comes to all three of Paul Henning's TV shows my favorite was "The Beverly Hillbillies" for I had a crush on the actress Donna Douglas, but I do enjoy the other two shows "Petticoat Junction" and "Green Acres" almost as well. However my favorite Bradley daughters on "Petticoat Junction" were played by Meredith MacRae and Lori Saunders.
I wasn’t even 10 before this show had run it’s course, but it was my favorite. I’m wished I could live there. I thought the hotel was beautiful and of course “Dog” was my favorite character!
I will never forget the Shady Rest Hotel, the Hooterville Cannonball,Kate,Uncle Joe, the three young ladies,Dog,and everyone else who played on "Petticoat Junction!"Larry Carroll
I missed a lot of these shows. I was in the Army 66 - 70 and out of the country for most of the time. Now I’m catching Green Acres on one of the over the air TV sub channels.
Oh no, I am sorry to hear this. Thank You for your service and sacrifice God bless you. Ypu would have loved your this show and other shows at the time.
I just miss extremely a lot of these wholesome shows, back when I was a kid. These may have been fictional, but they weren't reality based. It's so sad to see what this country has changed, some good but, way too much that's very bad! We had so much fun at trick or treat time and we used our minds to think. We didn't have all of these push button gadgets that's made us so lazy........ I'm half Native American and I used to remember my elders would tell us youth. "Only take, what you can give back to Mother Earth!" I would give all of these fancy gadgets, to go back to a time when there was much more Peace! I can't believe, that our Great Spirits, envisioned this Earth to be, what it has become !!!!!!!!
WHAT DO YOU REMEMBER ABOUT THE SHOW? 🤔
I never notice the actress change
I was enamored with Bobby Joe, (Lori Saunders) ...
I was 6 !!!
I don't know how the hotel stayed in business. They never seemed to have any paying guests, lol.
That it was corny.😏
I had no idea that was the same dog that played Benji. I remember seeing the show when I was a kid and I also remember seeing the Benji movies .

3:03 paused for the memories... God bless them all.
P.s.
Bought back good memories, of the shows and of my childhood. 👍👍
I paused there too. When done, I figured that just 4 of them are still living
My favorite was Uncle Joe and I loved the train. I watched it as a child, when we were unable to afford a color tv. Had I been able to watch in color, I’d have been absolutely obsessed with that train!
*Hatched on 1957, I loved all of Paul Henning's productions!* 🌴💖👍
Loved that show.Every one on there was do wonderful. The girls were just down right beautiful.💖💖💖
I loved Petticoat Junction. And Uncle Joe! And somehow I remember the dogs name was really Higgins. And I do remember he played Benji too. Lots of fun memories.
We used to watch the re runs on TV Land. It's was a pretty good show.
Tate was rejected as Elly May for the Hillbillies a year earlier for the same reason.
Betty Joe was always my favorite one of them all 💯❤🤗👏👍👌‼️
I still love to watch the repeats of the old shows.
The innuendo on this show was hilarious. See Dennis Miller just reading the lyrics to the song.
Lori Saunders was my favourite then Higgins the dog.I have a signed Print of the 3 girls signed by Lori from her website.
Great vid for fans of Paul Henning shows. My favourite was Green Acres! The cast was perfect and the scripts reach a level of absurdity that is sublime! Watched the entire series 4 times... so far.
One would think that with all that viewing, you might have learned the exec's name.
@@JW...-oj5iw Sorry for the typo.
The show ended after WHAT happened? There goes 11.5 minutes I'll never get back!
I wish I could have been in on the selecting of the actresses.
Lol
Rip buddie Epstein
Betty Joe's baby.
I still watch these shows today and occasionally very not so often I am lucky enough to see an episode that either I didn’t remember or somehow I never saw those are great days thanks of all your UA-cam things this was the one I have enjoyed the most thank you sir
This was my favorite show of all time! It always made me laugh! Thanks for taking me down memory Lane!
O know You do miss those times.I do too when I was growing up
Another Southern Show that I enjoyed as a child!!! The Shady Rest made me look forward to going down South!!!
I miss the days when the family could sit and watch a TV show together. The children saw a wholesome show with good people. While the adults caught the double entendres and saw a whole different show. Nowdays its all right in your face n I don't think there's much on TV that I would let a child watch.
Take Care All
I liked the episode where the cast of all three shows sat down to Christmas dinner.
Loved that show. I’d watch reruns if they came back.
I have DishNetwork Satellite & I have seen them on one channel several times. I can't remember which one at the moment but I will find out for you & post it here on this comment if you want me to!
Thank you your awesome
It's on every day
" decades" channel. Comcast Michigan
You can watch P.J. on Me T.V. They air a ton of 60s stuff!
Thank you for taking me back, it seems like a lifetime ago and yesterday at the same time.
The last 2 years were great with the girls rockin the mini skirts & dresses!
Yes I love 💘 the Petticoat Junction
How could you not love Billy joe...oh my my..❤🥰
Petticoat Junction was one of my favorite TV shows when I was a child (I’m old).
What Happened to close the show down? I hate that come on!
@@ihorprocyk1445 ~ Fell in the ratings after “Kate” died is what I got from the video
I wished I was in that water tank....hahaha
@@ronan310 ~ Could you imagine drinking water out of that thing after those three girls and a dog went swimming in it⁉️
IIRC, they were part of the "Rural purge"
Loved the cross-over episodes. I always wished for more of those. Best show cluster ever.
Weird that I can remember the lyrics to Beverly Hillbillies and Green Acres themes but not Petticoat Junction.
Oh wow
Thanks Paul Henning for these shows, we could step back and laugh at some really funny stuff. Unlike the shit on now thanks again for your creativity..
Lori Saunders the most prettiest girl on TV back then and when she was on Dustys Trail too she's actually probably the reason i watched this shows but great comedy unlike today's garbage
She was pretty, but Meredith Macrae was my favorite, and the daughter of Gordon Macrae, who did 'Carousel'.
@@kentclark6420 Lori Saunders was the most all-around beauty...but Meredith Macrae was a special type of blonde beauty.
As far as the brunettes on the show, I actually thought the first one was hotter.
Well Linda Henning was 🔥hot too but i still say Lori and the first two blonde girls on the series 🤔🥰
@@jackdarbyshire5888 I didn't mean Linda Henning. She's the redhead- cute, but I mean the first brunette, in the b& w episodes before Lori. Lori was cute too, though. They all were.
thought it was brilliant putting all three shows together petticoat, green acres,Beverly hillbillies 🤷👍
Petticoat Junction was one of my favorite Shows growing up
Little brother was scared of the train coming at him 🤣 I enjoyed the show!
Wish he'd talked about the background/history of the train used for the show-
@@johnerwin9024 that would be cool!
I loved Petticoat Junction
When it comes to all three of Paul Henning's TV shows my favorite was "The Beverly Hillbillies" for I had a crush on the actress Donna Douglas, but I do enjoy the other two shows "Petticoat Junction" and "Green Acres" almost as well. However my favorite Bradley daughters on "Petticoat Junction" were played by Meredith MacRae and Lori Saunders.
Loved that show.
I wish they would finish producing the remaining seasonal box sets on DVD!
Just remember that Green Acres was a spin off of Petticoat Junction
My favourite is still The Beverley Hillbillies. Some of the comic absurdities were hilarious.
Loved the theme song too!
I wasn’t even 10 before this show had run it’s course, but it was my favorite. I’m wished I could live there. I thought the hotel was beautiful and of course “Dog” was my favorite character!
Great show! Very nostalgic for me. My faves were the original Bobby Jo and of course Higgins whom I do remember as Benji.
The merging of the 3 Paul Henning shows for Thanksgiving/Christmas!
I will never forget the Shady Rest Hotel, the Hooterville Cannonball,Kate,Uncle Joe, the three young ladies,Dog,and everyone else who played on "Petticoat Junction!"Larry Carroll
The redhead Betty jo and the CannonBall were my favorites. The few shows with the airplane were good also.
the old tv shows you did not have to worry what the kids were watching or what was said god bless
I also loved the theme song ! Still sing it - in my head LOL
Great episodes 👌Thank ,s for all the good memories ❤🙏😊
I missed a lot of these shows. I was in the Army 66 - 70 and out of the country for most of the time. Now I’m catching Green Acres on one of the over the air TV sub channels.
Oh no, I am sorry to hear this. Thank You for your service and sacrifice God bless you. Ypu would have loved your this show and other shows at the time.
I still watch the Petticoat Junction reruns every Saturday morning.
They were all great actors, even the dog....but my favorite was Uncle Joe
Who remembers the episode: Bobbi Jo and the Beatnik?
Me‼️‼️‼️‼️
This episode was also one of two in which Linda Kaye Henning did not appear!!
That was Dennis Hopper, I think.
@@jeatig ~ Wow
I do!!!!!
Only got the pleasure of the reruns when I was growing up considering I was born in 74!
I grew up watching both Petticoat Junction and Green Acres I always preferred Petticoat Junction. And Higgins is definitely a better actor than Arnold
"Only take, what you can give back to Mother Earth!"
I would give all of these fancy gadgets, to go back to a time when there was much more Peace!
I can't believe, that our Great Spirits, envisioned this Earth to be, what it has become !!!!!!!!
Loved watching petticoat junction even all the reruns 🇦🇺🐨🐨🇦🇺
Man those were the days...
Truth Indeed AMEN, Never to be duplicated
What a nice trip down memory lane, thank you.
Absolutely loved Petticoat Junction🥰🥰🥰🥰🥰🥰🥰
