Re: cursing and profanity, my YA crossover novel that got me my agent and a two-book deal has 102 f-bombs, 73 s-words, and 15 d@mns. It definitely depends on context and character!

Thank you for the knowledge of the query letter present tense.
I've seen profanity in Ya but personally wouldn't myself.

This is a good vid for me since I'm writing a YA and it has profanity in it.

Petition to make "hey, hey, hey, it's Wednesday" the official jingle for these Q&A videos.

What a delight! Not only am I the first viewer, but your answer on playlists is super relevant for the manuscript (my first) I currently have out to beta readers. I didn't think I had any good options. You've made my day.

What is the publishing industry in terms of who owns the world of a book. If I sold a book to a publisher but they didn’t want to pick up the rest of the series, would I be allowed to continue it myself? Or would they own the characters and world so I’d have to write something new?

What if you enter writing contests and don't win, but rather you come in 2nd, 3rd or 4th (as I have done). Would that impress an agent or publisher, or does it have to be a win?

I was told off with certain themes in YA as in the US they are very taboo. Such as intercourse, which is perfectly normal to us in Australia and Europe. With swearing I was aware that the F word is a big no, even if the character is 18. The S word I did use a few times in my two YA novels and as mentioned, when it made sense.

Thanks again for keeping the zippiness going. As for that person writing their story in a past tense, that's a problem. It creates a writing distance because it's a putting things behind when you want a book to be with the reader in the immediate here and now. It's more powerful that way.

Hay House has a writing contest that I paid to enter as they did have several days of guest speakers and lots of information to download regarding proposal writing etc.

Can you speak a bit about finding an agent after parting ways with your former agent? How does the query letter differ for those who were previously agented?

Avid watcher of all of your content! I was wondering what’s your take on editor likes on Twitter pitches. I’m currently querying and I participated with the same MS in a pitch contest on Twitter (that allows for editor likes as well). My pitch has been liked by a publishing entity that belongs to one of the big five. Do you think it’s smart to incorporate that information in my querying? The like (according to the publishing house) meant an expression of interest and an invitation to send the materials to them once avenged.
While to me it looks like a good thing to include (since it shows interest for my material), I was wondering how that would be perceived on your end.
    Thanks!

Thank you for this video. I have a question. So, for my horror book I’m writing (three novellas in one book that follow a character), the first part/book is in third person, and the second and third part/book is in first person. Is it okay to do that if it fits the story, or will it confuse the readers, and I should just keep it third person for all of it? I want to express my character in the second and third parts in the first person, and it doesn’t really make sense to go first person in the first part because then I’d have to switch up the whole story.

I think more contests are becoming paid because of AI-generated stories taking up so much of the judges' time. AI-generated children's books are also flooding the market.

When the heck are you going to say something about writing contests? You can't even support your headline. That should have come up first. Before your commercials about yourself. Guess you don't have much to offer. Buyers beware.

Hi, just about everything you were speaking about in you video is foreign to me for the fact I'm not a writer. The reason I'm trying to contact you is i have a book that has been put in a hardback cover that's never been published nor any author for it. If you could possibly help me it could be lucrative for you. Please contact me if possible, just let me know how to contact with you or i can leave my contact info with you whatever works for you . Thank you, Michael Edwards
