    Mindset: Letting yourself slack off at the last part of the race. Later realizing there were onky 2-3 minutes left in the race. Soung that slacing off at the end enough and finally get if, its only 2-3 minutes of pain, it will be over soon even pick it up: 5k pr, 15:27

    Zone 2 does not necessarily equate to easy. I’ve been doing zone 2 training for a while now. I am now able to run at the same effort of my previous marathon with a much lower heart rate (zone 2 vs zone 3 or 4) so entering my next training block will be much easier to sustain “hard” and long efforts.

      @PeakStride  Рік тому +1

      That’s awesome! My zone two is also quite close to marathon pace - Goodluck with your next training block

    It's refreshing not listening to 'you have to run slow to run fast'

    • @PeakStride

      Yeah I’m not a big fan of running all week long if you can get the same benefits from much less.
      Minimal effective dose!

      It is still true. Most of thr training needs to be rather slow for your personal pace.
      Some workouts are faster then.

      ppl that don't want to run slow... are looking for quick results.

    • @joe1071
      @joe1071 Рік тому +5

      Why would that be refreshing? It’s actually great advice, especially for newer runners. The classic newbie runner trains at too fast of a pace, gets injured, claims they just aren’t meant to be a runner, and moves on maybe to lace up the shoes after injury recovery or maybe not. If you aren’t building a base with a lot of slow running, it’s a recipe for injury. That’s a tale as old as time. Once you have a base established, there should definitely be intervals, tempo runs, and speed work. But those should not dominate your weekly mileage. There’s a reason all the greatest runners complete the majority of their miles in a slow base building manner. If you want to “hack” your running by just running tempo and speed work, by all means give it a shot. It won’t last long

      Yep, except that also the top runners like Eliud Kipchoge or trail runners like Kilian Journey als rain their majority of training relatively slow. I'll pass on this one..

    @6:40 - your week 2 schedule has you running 5km @ 3kmp - that seems illogical. Are those supposed to be intervals or is that a typo?

    • @PeakStride
      @PeakStride  Рік тому +1

      Yep Intervals - the total volume of the session would be 5km at 3km pace

      @@PeakStride Thanks for the clarification. What do you typically do for intervals on that day? 5 x 1k? 10 x 0.5k?

    • @PeakStride
      @PeakStride  Рік тому +1

      For 3km pace workouts I usually do either of these formats to get roughly around that 5km of training volume
      3 x (1km,400m,400m)
      3 x 1km, 4 x 400m
      Aiming for longer rest times 1 min to 1:30 between reps

      It can be a great option to build up your running over time - but you’ll need to transition to more specific training to get your best race results.

      Sounds like you’ve built a great base - well done. I’d suggest adding in some sessions @ 5km and 10km pace to sharpen your blade and you’ll be FLYING!

    Funny how you all say the same thing. Obviously run slow to run fast is about preparing you to stay on your feet long enough to be able to do hard training.
    But somehow. Many have to presebt it as its the opposite.
    Its not.
    Build the time on you feet.
    Then build the speed.
    Run slow, for longer and longer,
    So them you can run fast. For longer and longer .. 😅

    • @PeakStride
      @PeakStride  Рік тому

      I agree - you should have period of time where you are taking it easy and building up your base - when you start running, or during a building phase for example. This video is about getting faster, and getting personal bests.
      I'm a big advocate of alternating long runs each week during a prep so that you have a long slow run focus on preparing the body, and then a long run with specific sets of faster paced running.
      thanks for the comment!
