Now, when looking at housing it is not that expensive in comparison, but it is when we look at other cost of living (groceries, eating out, etc). Though 900gbp in rent is rather for a studio, not for a proper flat. Same goes for other places, like Southampton, where under 1000gbp you now can't rent any flat or house with more than 1 room. It is always important to have context on how those prices are considered. I'm unsure what the creator considers a modest accommodation... Propably a worn out studio 😂
@@bensalter7997you wouldn't laugh if you'd live in the UK, because the cost for accommodation seem to be for a room in a shared home ateadt for some of the places. Questions is what the creator considers a "modest accommodation". 3 years ago I lived in Worthing, paid 775 GBP per month for a 2 bedroom flat in the centre, which was a bargain. Usually you had to consider 900-1100 gbp per month. This flat has now been rented out for 1295 gbp.over 500gbp increase over 3 years. Generally, you don't get any 2 bedroom accommodation under 1100gbp,we're looking at 1100 (for something shabby) to about 2000gbp now. Even 1 bedroom flats and studios under 950gbp is now part impossible. London and further down south you need to think of minimum 1000gbp for a studio or 1 bedroom property, unless you get lucky. But it's likely that it will be a bit too desirable place to live... Housing cost all over the UK went up like crazy, less in the places where the crime rate a higher, salaries and job opportunities are lower, more scarce. More homeless persons by the day, more people in danger to become homeless by the day, less people getting mortgages granted, more people trying to rent, but less homes available, and in top you'll pay far more for rent than a mortgage would ever be, with the difference that the home will never be yours. Basically, you're losing money. Naturally, renting is for people that move around a lot,for those who can't get a mortgage, and for those who plan to buy but are not yet sure where or just started working (young people, young families, etc) that are just not prepared yet to buy
Bristol is not cheap at all. I left Bristol due to the rising cost. I was priced out! Oxford is the most expensive place outside of London! I lived on a boat there after leaving Bristol lol
Find it hard to believe that no Northern Ireland cities make the list, but then Learning Canteen don't half talk nonsense, which is one of the reasons I enjoy their videos so much.
I think this video is misinformed by taking the average salary and not the lower normal salary. This is the biggest problem in this country, the amount of people on very low salaries who just simply can't have a life.
I believe Birmingham is not cheap city to live cost of living has gone up quite a lot take away food is also expensive food portions r small utility bills council tax water charges have gone up people with average salary of £3000 n above each month would have comfortable life
How about bournemoth, brighton, cambridge? Well, oxford is more expensive than southampton i think 😂, they even dont have aldi and Lidl, the alternative supermarket
FFS this is a bad joke - number 1 (Oxford) had the highest rent 1300 and only comes out 'cheap' due to the ridiculous 'earnings' number... compared to Derby at 766 it's almost double.
Calling edinburgh cheap is a MAAJOR lie 😂! Rent starting from 600 pounds for a tiny room in the outskirts.. NO. Edinburgh used to be alright and it is a beautiful beautiful city, but it is too expensive now.
So many people in so many different UK cities say that. Edinburgers say it as do people from Oxford. I guess it depends on where you get your info. But yeah, the list seems flawed.
Manchester cheap? It is as expensive to drink and eat in Manchester as London. South Manchester is as expensive as the South East almost for buying a house. Who compiled this list?
@@Belfreyite I will give you that analogy for Cheshire. Tacky people with money. I would say Liverpool is more like Essex, all false nails and permanent tans.

Oxford and Edinburgh?! I’d replace those two with Gloucester and Hereford myself
As for Reading that shouldn’t be on here as it isn’t a city
Absolute nonsense edinburgh is never a cheap place most locals struggle to stay there.
Sorry for laughing at you.

OXFORD?! OXFORD IS MASSIVELY EXPENSIVE
Great job! Please do again this video. We need an update on this!
Why the hell isn’t Leeds on here? It’s way cheaper than Edinburgh and Manchester! Edinburgh is super expensive to live in
Don't tell everyone. Let the plonkers stay down South!!
Leeds is on their "Most Expensive" list, as is Norwich and Swansea. Yet Edinburgh & Oxford are here. Don't know where they did their research.

£50.90 on transport, not rent.
