- It was fun and educational to work on Jeff Beck's amazing style and articulation on the Chapman Stick.
A quote from Carlos Santana.....
"Ever since I was a child I've always been very attracted to melodies. Whether I hear Jeff Beck, a choir, an ocean or the wind, there's always a melody in there. Santana"
Thank God for your Father/Dad & Jeff Beck R.I.P. he will be teaching me for the rest of my life. Not just the playing , but how to truly enjoy a musical composition. Get lost in the sound instead of the trouble going down.
My father designed and built the 1st stick for Emmett Chapman back in 1969. You'll never find any finer exotic tone woods on the planet. My father had the best stock at all times, along with sufficient elephant ivory for all his nuts and saddles.
I saw Emmett Chapman and Les DeMerle on drums...doing " Birds of Fire " at the John Anson Ford Theater in Los Angeles....I am still mesmerized....
I recognize your name and you've always been an amazing artist.
Forever in our hearts Jeff Beck
I agree, he was special!
0:50 Jeff would of played it on a Srat....
Some don't know about him, and long time fans kept up with him through the year's.Blow by Blow and other greats, how Guitar Shop,?
A great piece. I've never seen that many string bends on the Stick before. Loved the unexpected harmonics towards the end. Thank you 🖖
Jeff Beck used a lot of bending variations. It was fun to work on these.
The algorithm gets it right sometimes. I'm late to the party. So glad you crossed my path. Beautiful.
Thank You for listening. Interesting you mentioned the algorithm because I have tried to understand a bit of how it works but I have no idea. Were you familiar with the Stick before?
@@bobculbertson yes sir. A wonderful man named Sean Malone turned me onto the stick in the 90's. I have no idea how the algorithm works, it usually sends me to crap. Not this time, and I'm appreciative.
It sent me the right way this time. I’m a Jeff Beck fan and a long time fan of Stevie Wonder.
Thank you for playing this. It’s beautiful ❤
Robert,
Your reading of this amazing/my favorite Jeff Beck/Stevie Wonder masterpiece is truly a blessing. It brings on a sense of peace and simultaneous wonderment of your incredible tone. I first witnessed a Chapman Stick in the 80’s at a jazz club in LA and was floored. Your mastery of the instrument and of the tune is would have impressed the late Jeff Beck.
Thank you for this…
One of the most amazing displays of talent I have ever seen.
I love this song and the chapman stick is so cool
Truly mesmerising ❤
Oh how I miss Jeff.😢
So good! Much love to you Bob for making Mondays better!
David, Again I am happy to hear you are enjoying the videos. I hope you are gigging with the Stick a lot these days as you have such a nice repertoire of covers. I decided to play more covers lately because the Stick is still somewhat
obscure even after 50 years! I do enjoy creating original songs and still will. For now I am focused on getting the Instrument somehow more into the public awareness. Occasionally I play at Pier 39 in SF where there is a lot of tourists. It still amazes me when I ask a group of people, say for example 100 listeners if they have seen the instrument .Perhaps one or 2 hands go up, sometimes just a lot of blank stares. I guess could have played the Doremifa Cats!!
All The best.........
Absolutely beautiful…and the Geese at the end🥰 Brilliant arrangement!
Thank you, and you even caught the Geese sound at the end. Very subtle, you were listening!
amazing as always!!!
JB (RIP) made this song famous, but it must be acknowledged that the piece was written by Stevie Wonder.
Great playing- thanks.
Yes, you are correct. In fact sometimes when I do a music workshop I like to ask the question who wrote Cause we Ended as Lovers. 75% of the people say Jeff Beck. As great as Stevie Wonder was and he was one of the best ever, it is nice to have an instrumental version of a song become somewhat of a hit.
It was
Beautifully played! ❤
Brilliantly done. 🏆🏅
Whew! What a relief! I just knew a shark was gonna jump outta that water and make you an ex-Stick player. I'm glad you survived. Seriously though, I think I may like this as a solo piece even better than as an ensemble one. I loved Jeff as much as anybody, no disrespect at all. But this really works. Loved it! I'm becoming a fan.
Fantastic(k)!
Bravo! Master Robert.
Oh my God, Bob; you make me cry! Still waiting for my Stick-it’ll be around two years before Grace gets to it. In the meantime, I’m binging on your videos for inspiration. I’m always in awe.
Thank You for your support. One idea I tell people interested in purchasing the Stick is to find a used one while you wait because you can sell it for what you paid then pass it on. I know there is a short supply and hope somehow this can change.
Nice 👍
Great stuff mate
possible new favorite.
Perhaps someday I will pull out old #1986 and try again.
What are you waiting for?
It's never too late! Play for the primary audience of one ~ a wiser, more mature YOU deserves to hear what no one else will ever play or hear...unless YOU play it...
Until you play it...
Great!!!
great sound well done, Mick.
I stumbled and fell in to this place . So I stayed for the show. And what a show it was ! Beautiful - what is this instrument you are playing ?
I am glad you enjoyed the music. The instrument I play is called the Chapman Stick. The stick was invented in 1974 by Emmett Chapman. I have a video titled, what is a Chapman Stick?
@@bobculbertson Thank you.
Bitchin sounds ✌️
Did you ever go to Guitar Showcase in Campbell
Oh yeah, that was where I taught as i guess you may already know? Are you from San Jose area?
@@bobculbertson I bought my first guitar a Yamaha SG 2000 at guitar showcase in 1979, I still have it.. And yes I remember you as a local legend. I had to refresh my brain it has been awhile ! ✌🎸. Grew up with Doug Caldwell and my cousin Tim Alexander who had the first online record label called Quagmire Records started in Los Gatos 1993, his band was a Western Front. There are a lot of videos on UA-cam of Tim Alexander and a Western Front. Before Tim became a recording artist and alternative musician in high school his band would play an entire Yes album, throw in Birds of Fire and always end with Celebrate good times. I remember the Santa Clara County days of the 80's so well.

Did your cousin Tim ever record with Ray Benson and Asleep at the Wheel? I knew a Tim A. in the TX Western Swing circuit. Very talented and fun! RIP
Sounds good 👍 you all need to look for guitar booge not one but three guitar players.
I wonder what Jeff Healey could have achieved with this instrument…
INCREÍBLE MAESTRO👍👍👍GRACIAS X COMPARTIR👍❤️❤️❤️
Thank You for your listening support. You have created some wonderful sounds on the Stick as well. Cheers!
wow amazing
