I finally broke down and ordered an Ascent today. It'll join the SCX6 and G63 6x6 in my collection of cars i have zero use or time for. Some cars and trucks are just cool and i want to support Redcat for actually releasing new and unique rigs.

i have a blue set and green set
the green pretty close to dual stage insert from crawler inovations have pretty the same side roll action
but the blue... if you trim the blue on a first layer its soft as the green but it hold the side hills much better than the green one

So I have the same truck and all 3 inserts on comp pins .there is no question it’s the blue . But you can tune these by trimming and they are way better

Ye I think that's the trick with these you have to have the right setup for where your crawling and nice tip on how to NOT cheat 😅 if you don't get caught you didn't do anything 😉 👊🏼🤙🏼💨💨

Having a softer insert in the rear tires when doing a climbing turn almost acts like a pseudo-DIG. The tire compression makes a larger contact patch that plants the rear, allowing the front to make a tighter turn. Soft rear/medium fronts or medium rear/hard fronts look interesting, choice based on vehicle weight.

A lot of time and effort went into this, Thx for that.
In the end indeed Its all about the rig used there and then imo. What works best there might not work at the next location using the same car.. As mentioned in the conclusion having a extra set of same wheels with different inserts and possibility to try, change and experience on the spot what works best is the way to go when things get serious.
For now I run the blue ones on my most used rims on my Ascend. With 2nd set using dual stage. It’s close.
When my ordered VRD kit arrives next week I will be a happy owner again.
Probably gonna spend some time just looking at the box and bags, no time however ordered afraid it would sell out of stock.😂
For the build itself I will wait till i have a long weekend or short holiday to really take my time, enjoy the build and not rushing and messing up painting the planned body. I want to keep that combo pretty stock and “lightweight”, mainly running small batteries.
Rims already arrived. Will be trying the greens on both front and rear then.
Comparing them to the blue ones from the red cat and mixed to see what works better. No expectations, just to experience and maybe learn something 😊 enjoy our hobby🎉

Just ran the injora silicones for the first time a couple days ago. Softs all around were great for a trail truck with no added weight. Only thing i noticed was theres a fair amount of return, or bounce under mid throttle compared to even single stage open cell foams. With that daid they add a great scale feel to the truck and performance was nice overall!

Try 25wt fluid in shocks with internal springs removed. Mini t soft front outers on front, and medium in rears. It takes out some of the "return" of the rubber inserts.

@thatoneguy2756 im running 40wt in a 10ii rbk with traxxas gts shocks. No bouncing or minimal bouncing with typical 2 stage inserts. I think its just in the nature of these silicones. Great low throttle traits, but have more return than id like to see in a more serious comp setup.

@@mfnJOSH I agree, just letting you know what helped the ascent/ascent shocks specifically with these inserts. I feel like these rubber inserts are more for trail use, and slow speed crawling. I forgot to mention the tires must be vented to minimize the bounce as well.

I am surprised that the problem with venting is not mentioned.. I tried them on my SCX24s and took them out again. They prevent venting. They completely seal the holes if you vent from the wheels which i usually do but also holes in the tire, that whole silicone structure does not allow air to move inside like foams. On one wheel i succeeded by making several holes into the side wall of the tire. Also i have seen someone severely cutting that silicone ring up to allow venting. To be honest that kills it for me. Strangely there was one combo that worked it was the LGRP Black labels with the yellow rings, would have to check which wheel i have them on, that seemed to work without venting and no "balloon" feeling.

Hey there, thanks for the vids on this topic. Helping me out a lot as I have built a Rock Pirates Element rig and was struggling which inserts to try in the Trencher tires. Order has been placed!! Will dop a vid soon to show what I got and how it performs. Thanks again and keep it coming!

One set I run is printed inserts in the front and blue injora in the rear. Allows for pretty good side hill turns. The back does seem to slide downhill a little allowing for tighter turns.

O ya AMK also has silicone inserts options now too on Amazon I got a set but have not tested but like I previously stated no body test and breaks it down while making it enjoyable to watch like you do !

I'm loving this series and the depth your going into like no one else... So Globact has 4 different silicone inserts offerings on Amazon now I've gotten a couple and they are different than the injoras... Can you do a review on those ones too?... I love your insight on things

aren't these inserts made specifically for the injora tires and aren't necessarily a fit for other tires?
I see a lot of time put into this; that's a lot of work. thanks for the vid. interesting to see and a lot to consider due to diff rigs have diff geometry and therefore diff weight distribution both flat and under load.

  • @TheLilhulk1111

The silicone inserts seem like they don’t have as much strength on the sidewall as 3-D printed so maybe you should try doing your turns with the medium medium and that might work a little better

Could those tires be to wide for the inserts maybe that’s why your tire is mushier on the side hill

Hi nothing to do with this latest video but I know you like your UDR. I’ve had one for 3 years and after fitting a replacement motor in it ( standard Traxxas motor) last year I can’t get the pinion to stay tight, it comes loose every couple of packs any advice would be appreciated because otherwise the truck is brilliant
