If you didn't have these obstacles, and you didn't experience your past with addiction, you would never be where you are right now. I'm not saying that it was worth it, but I do think it has made you the person you are today, and that person can look in the mirror and say: I'm proud of who I am and what I've done today.
Thank you for sharing, I have so much respect for you. All the dogs in the world say: Go Niall, we love you🥰

Niall, my story is just a hair's breadth away from being identical to yours. I am 76, sober 42 years, and still suffer from depression. I also have experienced depression and anxiety all my life. I employ some of the same remedies as you. My health has been compromised in the last few years, and now all I want to do is stay in bed. Old age is not easy and for a glass-half-empty kind of person as I am, it can be isolating and feel meaningless. Your video today was the first time in a long, long time that I felt connected to someone. Those who do not suffer from depression, alcoholism, and/or old age don't always understand. So you are doing a lot more than helping the dogs, my friend. God bless you. Thank you❣️

I've suffered from depression since I was a child. I know how difficult it can be to just get through the day when things are particularly bad. I'm also dealing with age related problems & am the only one left from my family of origin. You are definitely not alone in how you feel & how you are coping. I want to congratulate you on your sobriety-42 years is an enormous achievement & I've met few people who have managed such a feat. Please know that there are many of us out here who do know how challenging depression & anxiety can be. Many don't realize just how strong someone has to be to fight these illnesses. I think you are a tremendous person, strong & determined. Old age is not for weenies as I'm learning. Sending you huge hugs, understanding & all my best wishes for a better day.

Demons keeping you where they want you guys...when you are feeling depressed, speak to the demons who are keeping you down and see them manifest. This is absolute truth! Only prayer and spiritual cleansing by the Most High will work, there's only one name that they will flee at. I pray for you both 🌻

    • @viviangendernalik
      @viviangendernalik 2 місяці тому

@@JmJendtimes unless they are in the faith, they do not have the authority to wield the name that works and prevail. See Acts 19 verses 15 & 16, worse thing you could tell such people as it could lead to evil overcoming such. Better to let persons know there is One who can deliver from addictions and aid through old age, although old age is not easy I can attest being in that age; we were not promised a pain-free life, but eternal life where all tears will be, and I stress the future tense, "will be" wiped away. Here we will shed tears, and many times to bring us to depend on the Most High, as Paul shared in 2 Corinthians 1 verses 8 & 9, and with the purpose we learn where our real hope and rescue is in all troubles. If you paint the wrong message it makes people needlessly angry with God, and I think that is the opposite of what you want to do.

Niall, I and my sister have been long time Animal Rights. We turned Vegetarians when we were 14 years old, we are now 65. We have never eaten animal products, period. In our teens, 20, 30, 40 and 50s being a vegetarian allowed us to lose weight and excelled in fitness and that is the one true thing I am most Thankful. When animal neglect and cruelty news get overwhelmingly sad I turn to your channel and get instantly revived. Your warm words and happy doggos create Hope. I have been contributing to animal group and will continue. All my animals are rescues from the birds, chickens, horses, cats, and dogs. Your wisdom is contagious and I appreciate all that you do.

Just one more thing I meant to add. When I lost my husband I wanted to just take to my bed and never leave it again. However I couldn’t because I had two dogs who depended on me for everything. I’ve had depression and anxiety due to my husband passing in an untimely way. It really is all consuming it takes over your mind and body and it’s crippling. Please get the help you need it helps so much you have to help yourself but with medication you can get through it and control it so you can live your precious life! It’s been over 5 years now since i’ve had to stay in bed but i still take a very low dose of Cymbalta and probably will for the rest of my life but that’s ok!

    Ur a inspiration
In my tool kit I go for a walk if I have anxiety in nature I am lucky enough to live by the sea and countryside which calms me. I meditate when I can , if I am having a slight panic I also do 5, 4, 3, 2, 1 technique. It leverages the power of your five senses-sight, touch, hearing, smell, and taste-to redirect your attention away from distressing thoughts and emotions. By focusing on sensory experiences, the method aims to ground you in the here and now.

Niall... I cannot thank you enough for sharing your mental health issues. I lost the love of my life this year to alcohol addiction... and struggle myself w anxiety and panic attacks. Taking the stigma away is so much a part of acknowledging and healing and knowing you're not alone in your struggles. Finding coping mechanisms is part of the healing process (continuing cuz I'm not sure it ever does go way - especially if you're sensitive to the suffering in the world). Knowing there are ways to manage and hearing them from someone who's been there and on the constant path is so encouraging. Your work and the doggos are a part of my well being. I'm so grateful for you.

Thank you for bringing awareness to this. I suffer from depression and hide it if I leave the house, I also have times that I am so tired that I feel exhausted thinking about hiding the depression. I often think of death as the release, and that gives me hope, it won’t last forever. Now, people are extremely alarmed by me saying this. lol but I’m not suicidal, just hoping things will improve in the next 60 years. lol when my soul is free from my prison of this body! Until then I’ll help people, like I do, and know it’s not forever.
I work in eldercare, so death is just a natural part of life to me. It’s not the scary topic that everyone views it as, at least to me.

Great video. Loved it and you’re just amazing. I’ve never taken anti depressants. I don’t drink or smoke but 5 years ago I lost my lower right leg in motorbike accident. A new v young car driver came round corner head on hit me tore lower leg apart and snapped femur and broke hand. I died twice on way to hospital in oxford. As I text today I’m in hospital again I have a bone infection on my amputee side your videos and insta story’s keep me going. I’ve been laid up 3 weeks here. Even after getting my prosthetic I keep active going to gym cycling and best of all long walks with my gorgeous boxer dog. He is one thing that kept depression at bay I don’t know what I’d do without him. Dogs help calm you and heal you in so many ways. I think I get panic attacks not as bad as u my heart goes crazy and can barely get up. I admire and look up to you and all you do with those dogs. I’d love to do exactly what you do and see what it’s like there. I first saw you on Ben fogle show. I donated and tell everyone to follow you 👍🏼🐾

Much respect. Thanks for sharing your struggles. I used to have massive anxiety attacks too. I remember once at work after lunch I couldn't get in the elevator to go back to work. I was terrified. I sat on a bench in the lobby for maybe an hour or more trying to visualize myself getting in that elevator. The attacks weren't really frequent but when they hit, they were debilitating. I took anti-depressants for a few weeks but stopped. I was more afraid of them than the attacks, I think. I don't know what happened, but the attacks eventually just stopped. I haven't had one in many years. I wish I could tell you why, but I honestly don't know I think you are doing such a wonderful job with the dogs & the joy that you bring to them & us who watch you is priceless. Keep doing what you're doing as long as it works for you. You have a lot on your shoulders, so please don't overburden yourself. The dogs love & trust you, so you're obviously doing everything right in their eyes. 🐾🐾❤🐾🐾

Thank you for sharing, Niall. A key aspect in managing this condition, for me, is having a life purpose aligned with one's aspirations and moral views. I might have missed it in your video, but this alignment has been crucial. Your dedication to dog welfare seems to serve this role for you, creating a virtuous cycle where doing good fosters mental well-being, which in turn enables more positive actions. The work of Happy Doggo and other global shelters is truly inspiring - including organizations working for other animals (cats, farm animals) and wild life. Thank you.

I left my alcoholic abusive husband 20 years ago got myself a puppy who grew to 105 pounds of fun and love and showed me why God made dogs. Losing him was horrific but he lived a long time and my new 100 pound friend keeps me going! In Alanon I learned to let go and let God take my hand one day ar a time and give me a dog who lives one day at a time. What you do is marvelous. Humans suffer fear and lonliness and disappointment dogs teach us each moment is precious. Hope to volunteer with you one day. Hang in there you are doing great. Such an inspiration to so many. My family is from the British Isles so I get the weather and alcohol culture. Sunshine is the best cure. Save me some Thai fried chicken and Thai Ice Tea. Bless you on all you do! And all who work with you!❤❤ ❤❤❤❤

I’ve been in recovery for 5 years, spent over a decade of my life struggling with addiction and alcoholism. I appreciate this so much. I’ve struggled with depression my whole life, and with anxiety for most of it. So many people don’t understand these issues, or realize how widespread they’ve become. We don’t talk about mental health nearly enough, but openly acknowledging the problem is the only way we can start to turn the tide on it. So thank you for being honest and open about your struggle. Too many people are shamed into silence- and mental illness thrives in darkness and isolation.
On a side note, my rescue dog saved my life. She arrived the day I returned home from rehab. She was 3-4 months old, and hadn’t really been socialized with humans. She had no interest in attention or affection if it came from a human (although she loved other dogs, and had been well socialized there). She was incredibly mistrustful, and deeply unhappy- and honestly, I could relate to that. It took me months to start gaining her trust. It took her the better part of a year to even let her guard down around me. Now, years later, we have an unbelievably close bond. In early recovery, I often couldn’t do it for myself, or even for the people I loved. So I did it for her. She saved my life, and I saved hers.
Anyway, sorry this got so long. This is a subject that I’m passionate about- clearly, lol- and I wanted to share my thoughts. Thank you for continuing to put yourself out in the world in this way. People like you are very much needed, and very much appreciated.

How amazing to have your rescue dog arrive when you came out of rehab! That would have crystallised a sense of responsibility for that frightened little being - how wonderful to find trust together and build your special bond. Well done on your 5 years of sobriety!❤🐾

@@GoannaUKthank you so much! That’s very kind. It really was perfect that she got there the same day. And to think that I initially said “we absolutely do not need another dog” at the time 😂 I’m very happy to have been proven 100% wrong on that.

Thank you for sharing so much Niall I think it is very critical that we all realize we’re all simply human and we’re lucky with our association with animals that they make us have a piece of their brilliance and joy in life. Not sure why any of us have to suffer depression we can come up with 1 million reasons and environment versus chemicals etc. etc. but I think we do have to recognize the fact that, we’re not perfect and we all have problems and we’ve got to deal with them and we genuinely do have to stop and address them and not self medicate which is so tempting. I think we need to just help each other too. We need to encourage each other, you know cheer each other on when we need it, and Let people know they’re not alone and that they are loved and needed no matter who they are or where they are ….
Definitely sunshine I think maybe dancing with some music even if you’re dancing with yourself and you’re holding your kitty cats or your dogs or your kids
Gardening helps getting your hands dirty in the dirt watching things grow. There’s a lot of satisfaction in that.
Try to get healthy food. It’s hard to do in the western countries stay away from the process crapola, and all the chemicals they contain .
If you can find the humor and the awesomeness around us, there’s always some magic and beauty and you gotta find humor. Every day you gotta laugh and make other people laugh and make other people smile.
And if you’re lucky enough, make sure that you hug a kitty cat, a puppy dog, a bird, an elephant, a donkey, and as many human beings, as you can not in a sexual way, but just a genuine hug . And let the other person know I’m glad you’re here we’re here at the same time so let’s share a hug and a smile. 😊

Niall, you are such an inspiration to so many people who are suffering from Depression and anxiety. It has become a global epidemic but nothing to be ashamed of. None of us are perfect and we're all just trying to get through the day in whatever way we can but, you're so right, we will not find emotional peace at the bottom of a glass. 🍷 Take One day at a time and celebrate the good day's with some tasty indulgent food.I agree with lack of Sunshine causing us to feel more depressed. I live in Scotland and as beautiful as it is, it does lack Sunshine a lot of the time, and grey, wet cold day's does not uplift our spirit and keeps us cooped up indoors but having a Dog, forces us to get outside and walk our Dog's in nature, which always makes me feel more positive. You are an amazing Man, Niall and you chose to change your life and move to a Sunny climate and there you found your true calling, to help change the suffering of Street Dog's. You also chose to go down the slippery path of addiction but if you hadn't done, you would not be where you are and doing an amazing job to change the wretched lives of hundreds of Dog's. This done, has given you hope for a better life, not only for the Dog's, but for your own sanity and well being. Your mission to change Dog's lives on a global scale is why you came to this Earth. You should be so honoured to be that Man. One day, one Dog at a time. God granted you serenity. 💟💫🌠
