    My wife and I converted and were Chrismated in the Orthodox Church about a year ago. We were Anglican/Episcopalian for a long time. My only regret is not converting years ago. We give thanks to God that we are home!
    May the Lord bless you all.

    In the Eastern Orthodox Churches, the center of the bread (referred to as the 'lamb') is consecrated and becomes the Eucharist while the remainder of the loaf is blessed, cut into squares, and given to the faithful after communion to eat and soak up the remaining Eucharist that might still be in their mouth. In the Slavic tradition, warm wine is also given after communion to wash everything down.

    Thanks for uploading this! It is a beautiful video.
    It would be helpful if there were subtitles ( you could use the annotations feature) to explain what is being done and its liturgical/theological significance. This vid illustrates the painstaking work done, but without little explication, it gets a little drab for the uninitiated.
    Would you consider adding some annotations?

    @MLGMajorityFFA I'm fairly certain this is in an Antiochian Orthodox Church. I say that because I saw the serving priest once at the funeral of another Antiochian Orthodox priest (Fr. John Estephan), and because Antiochians are the most likely to use Arabic in their services.

    @KingofPeace93 I realise the differences. My question was why they did what they did? The bread is very thick and the use of the knife is odd to me. Also the body is very sacred in Coptic Orthodoxy. It seemed like a lot of crumbs were falling off. Info please

    The "easier way" makes for laziness and loss of depth.

    @KingofPeace93 This is Greek Orthodox (of Antioch). This is not the Body yet. The Lamb has not been consecrated.

    Greek Orthodoxy has been using tools, like knife and spoon, with communion for a long time. I've even seen an Icon made centuries ago in which the Saint on it is holding the bread knife and spoon,

    The knife represents the spear, and its use it mentioned in the preparation, "...and a soldier pierced his side with a spear and out came blood and water..."

    @MenechemShaul The Divine Liturgy of St. John Chrysostom focuses on the Resurrected Lord. The Lord is risen and so is the bread!

    @lty2k84 Christianity has always been bound up with ritual. The apostles even followed ritual. "Hold fast to the traditions past on to you."

    I'm Roman Catholic, what's the difference between the orthodox church ? seems like it's some what of what we do during our masses.

    • @jesusacuna309
      @jesusacuna309 5 років тому

      Mainly, the difference is traditions (though we also have our Eastern Catholic brothers who closer resemble our separated brethren) and authority.

    No beards, they look like Western Rite priests.
