Me: begins watching video
Chris: "it's fricken hard"
Me: I guess i'm done here
ha, if he says its frickin hard we dont even try
Devan I have played for like 6 months... Sections 1&2 were pretty easy but rest of the song can wait till next year😜😁
that damn string skip arpeggio has me stumped lol.
just play it slow then work your way up. the fingers on my right hand are in pain now from practicing this.
The only really bad part is that last section.
Syn Gates is amazing
At first I was like “I think I can do this” then Chris said it’s hard so my ass is going back to learning the solo’s from so far away
Dude that's literally the exact same thing I did but so far away solo is still heckin hard
@@PeacedByMe No, it ISN'T! Loser!!!
You know it's hard when a shredlord like Chris says it's hard
GOODNIGHT TONIGHT I' AM BURNING STAR IV
1:28 Section 1&2
4:32 Section 3
5:32 Section 4
7:20 Section 5
Have fun ;)
Syn is literally the guy that I play to practice because every fucking song is a new technique to learn. The two finger tapping on a string skip arpeggio is gonna be a real treat to master
22 frets saved me once again
😂😂😂
ahahahahaha
😂😂😂😂😂
Well If you skip this one note, nothing bad will happen ;)
Fr though lmao
Chris, your a frickin legend for dedicating an entire video to this section of The Stage. Helped me out a lot, tabs just didn’t do it for me and then I came across this. Your always the number 1 for learning hard shit like this and solos etc. Thank you so much!
One of my favorite things is learning a song by ear, then learning how to properly play it. I feel like learning the song by ear gives me a great feel for the song, whereas learning the song from tabs or a detailed lesson like this gives me a much clearer understanding of the piece.
Thank you for the videos, I really appreciate them.
synyster gates is a fucking genius
"Hard" is subjective. Sure, I can't play it... yet. But remember that if its hard then there is something valuable to learn from it. Take it down to the slowest possible speed you can play it at, focus on playing it cleanly, and then over time the speed will come out - as long as you work on tapping in a variety of songs.
no
@@skrobie Willful ignorance won't make you better. However, if you have a method that works better than the one I described, by all means!
Yeah thats what I'm doing. I'm going slow and taking my time with it. And its sounding pretty good so far. Its been my 3rd day working on it and I am making progress. I'm on the 4th section. Can't wait to be able to play it all together.
2 months of straight playing and i am almost done.. i am really happy and really apreciate this lesson... ✌️ thanks a lot for this
might as well do the full song now
Yeah hahaha
if people fund him properly on patreon he might
This has got to be one of the most difficult/challenging Metal Guitar intros ever. Nice lesson man
It's fricken hard!
RANDOM BRIAN I know right
you're a genius, Chris!! this piece is pretty far off my skill set for now but watching you play it is a thrill in itself, and that goes for most of your other stuff. Kudos Mr Zoupa!
Imagine me, just learning guitar and wanting to play this. I remember the first time watching you play this I didn't know what tapping was so I picked 9 with my thumb and hammered the rest. It wasn't till eruption did I realize what tapping was but now I can play the intro.
Chris man you seem so tired we appreciate everything you do tho man. And thank you so much for the uploads
You are the man! Good lord those sweep taps are no joke.
That was perfectly played, thanks so much for this. Your lessons are always right on point!!
Really love your work! I hope you can make a Master Class Synyster Solo soon💪
I am a brave soul.
Chris: "It's fricken hard"
Me: BRING IT ON!!!!!!!!!!!!
*5 minutes later*
Me: RRRRAAAAAAAAAAAAGGGGGGGGGGEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Anyone who attempts to learn this song will be a broken, defeated man after this, and I will certainly look the part.
Ian Gillies
The hardest part was the intro and that sweep pick riff
Then you'll probably die if you attempt to learn Rick Graham, Jason Richardson and Tosin Abasi stuff...
First ever episode of LTI (learn that intro). As promised sir i owe you $50, thanks again!

We need more people like you. I should be like you!
I greatly appreciate this man! Directions are very clear and straight forward
Thank you Chris... increíble... best cover and of great help..already working on this challenging solo
Thank you for these lessons bro! I finally learned the whole song and did a cover, all thanks to you..congratulations for 100k!!
I like how Syn plays the B string, there's a weird harmonic that you can hear sometimes and it gives it a bit of an eerie effect
Great cover once again Chris, now all we need is the "outro" thingy after the 3rd sweeping solo.
When you didn't think you could find something harder than the tapping for eruption yet here you are
Sounds amazing. Keep up the good work!
man i need you as a teacher!
Was looking especially for that section 5, thanks Chris!!!
Also thanks very much Chris for the effort you put into these tutorials.
Please Do Show Me A Leader By Alter Bridge.
Agreed, if not Show Me A Leader I would love to see some more AB. But amazing lesson as always Chris and super helpful!
Awesome video man helped me a ton thank you!
man, you make the songs look easy lol thanks for the videos!
Thanks so Much for this Lesson !
dammmm Chris as much as I wanna play this I can't do it
Learn all the notes and play it slowly until you can play it off by heart. Then just build up speed the best you can. Seriously, you will manage! It's better to know the solo and play it slow than not know it at all.
Never put yourself down!!
What a great tapping techinque!!
Can you do a lesson of aviator solo by Polyphia? It also has tricky tapping parts
thank you chris,you're the best!
i don't even have a 23rd fret on my guitar
Saved by the 22 frets.
Time to buy a Synyster Custom
@@Downbythebay22 Yeah that guitar is sick! :D
i just play 19-21-19 instead of 21-23-21
Thanks for tutorial bro
Chris you the best!
very nice tuto guys thank you !
I m amazed at synyster and angry at same time for making. A good intro so hard imagine the solo lol
Thank you so much Chris!
Thanks Chris!!!
I hope you know I watch most of your videos intros just to watch you play the solos lol. I dont have my guitar with me rn in college to try and learn
I also find it might be easier for some to play the main part more clean, by stretching with your pinky from 9 to 14 to stay on the same string, instead of 9 to 10 changing strings like he does
Yo Chris! Awesome vid as always man.
Do you think you could do a solo lesson for the song Are You Kidding Me? No. by Destrage?
Idk about y'all... but this is so hard for me haha, thanks for the lesson tho!! So awesome!! Is there a not ready to die by avenged sevenfold solo lesson? If not, can it be possible to do it? That would be so freakin awesome!
Btw, that last arpeggio you weren't sure what to call is just a B Maj7 it goes 3rd, 5, 7, Root. It's just unusual in an E minor progression. Usually that would be a B7 so it would have the flat 7. Maybe he's getting this from the bebop dominant scale(1,2,3,4,5,6,b7,7 or B,C#,D#,E,F#,G#,A,A#). Not sure but it sounds good, so that's all that matters.
I’m glad I wasn’t the only one that immediately got discouraged when he said “this is fucking hard” 😂
You have to remember that Syn is probably drunk on vodka when he wrote this so it's gonna be pretty crazy lol
Hey Chris just letting you know that you can do the intro taps all on the b string, you don't need to use the g and b strings! :) I play it starting out with 5 7 12 then figured it out from there, hope that helps, it's a lot easier. But whatever way is comfortable for you is how you should stick with it.
I figured it out the same way man; taps on the B string. But Chris said Syn did it on the G string w/ the weird tap on 10 of the B string in between. Chris is right, i went and watched a live video. You can totally play it the way you're saying, Chris is just giving us the artists' actual interpretation.
Andy Hong Yeah and maybe it's done on the G string to make the E string taps more accessible
A quick question Chris, hopefully you see this lol, but how can you keep the other strings muted while doing the string skipping arpeggio part? I'm slowly getting the tapping down pat I just keep getting heaps of interference with the other strings, thanks!
can you also check out the outro melodic sweeping part? after that I'll finally know how to play the song 100%
The progression is Gm - Eb - F - D, in different shapes, My tab is under review in the ultimate guitar, released when I post it to u

Bruno de Oliveira sick man, thanks!
Awesome shit dude. Thanks for ur time and effort
The "Cheeky lil lick" you talk about.... when I do the string skip part I keep having a problem with the note change 8 11 16 on the third. the 16 ringing over the string skip to the 11 14 19 on the first. any suggestions? or do you even understand what I'm trying to say? it's section 2 on tab I believe.
I keep getting bleed over now from the final note on the third string 16 fret as I'm skipping the string to do the hammer on for the 11 14 19 on the first string.
Awesome video! Totally gonna start working on playing this. Could you maybe do a tutorial for the solo (or whole song) of Ten Speed (of god's blood and burial) by coheed and cambria?
Thank you sooooo much would not have gotten it off of tabs alone
wow the final part is really hard, what exercise do you recommend for get better in multi string tapping??
In the string skipping arpegio, To tap the notes on 1st string, i use my ring finger..I becomes a bit easier to tap and mute the strings..
Are you like, muting the g string after pulling off on your way up the string-skip lick with a little flick/tap of your middle finger? It's hard for me to tell bc it's quick, but if so that is slick
this song is fun as hell to play
Awesome man.
Something from Killing is my business?? Or maybe some Vektor!! great video as always!
3:37 closes internet browser and ponders about life and how come i suck lol.
seen it on sunday live, and it was so fucking awesome
man thank you man thank you!!
Please do the rest!! Much love
Yo man thank you so much for this now i can get most of the tricky parts down! Do you think you can do the crazy sweeping part during the bridge right before the last solo? 😆😆😆
Sebastian Suarez He already did
The progression is Gm - Eb - F - D, in different shapes, My tab is under review in the ultimate guitar, released when I post it to u
tabs.ultimate-guitar.com/a/avenged_sevenfold/the_stage_ver2_tab.htm here
Bruno is correct here. Keep in mind it follows that progression but the chord shapes do not repeat on the second time through. The entire section ascends throughout the chord progression and ultimately ends on the same diminished shape that is used a few times in the song. (17-14 on the high e, 16 on the b, 17-14 on the g, then back up)
Yes, that's it! I had forgotten. in my tab it is written the diminished notes on the last shape, thanks for reminding
I thought this was going surprisingly well, until I realised I don’t even have enough frets to play it
That moment you don't even have a 23 fret... ☹️
Thank you very much. Fix, i am done here! Its so fu*kn hard
How do you guys deal with the arpeggio in the last section? Are you just tapping it or playing it? I know Chris is using his finger nail, but I prefer playing with a pick
Thanks man
where i don't have a pedal and my amp is smaller, it's hard for me to hear the tapping, is there any way i can make it louder like a certain adjustment i should have the setting on my amp into, bc it's very hard for me to hear the tapping when i play it and yeah skkskkskk
get a real amp you wuss
Tapping is the hardest for me here. HOW DO I NOT TOUCH OTHER STRINGS WHEN MOVING TO THE 1ST STRING!!??!!
when his face playing through it is the "fuck its the 70th take", you know you have to click out of the video
Please zoupa a lesson for dyson sphere by allegaeon!
hell yeah! i've been waiting this for 4 years xd
just kidding
Sounds like Syn listened to some Guthrie Govan on his way to the studio
First off, thank you so so much for this lesson and tan. Been grinding on it for a few hours and have everything down. Now just need to get to tempo. Just one question though. I tried to play along with you slowed down and it looks like it’s being played so fast that the a minor arpeggio is almost being skipped. Is that intentional or is it just me? Thanks!
Thank you!!!
This intro is so cool that it's tab has crosses on it
hey man this is another one of your great lessons but I keep getting stuck with the tuning of my amp...can you explain how I should go about settings and effects ..thx
Finallllly I can play section seven after 3 monthss
Hey Chris, I know you get a buttload of requests, but how about Reb Beach's solo on "Erase the Slate" by Dokken?
Thanks for all the videos you do.
Hey Chris can you do a lesson on the acoustic parts on the stage by A7X cause I mm having trouble getting it down
Learned the basic intro tapping then it got like 10000 times harder
Hey Chris do you think you will do the acoustic ending
If you have big hands you can make the third bar easier by not having to use the b-string (I actually don't use the b-string at all in the intro)
I've seen this before but what do you use in the third fret? Isn't it for a cleaner sound?
Could someone please tell me what that strap is on the first fret? Is it used to dampen reverb or something? I’ve seen them before but not sure what they’re called
😍😍 awesome
11:22 how to make bends that sound like that
Can u do a lesson on the guitar solo from Frank Zappa's Inca roads? Really killer guitar solo!
do the solo for elliptical illumination by chon
can you give me some tips please i cant get the string skip bit to sound clean. Im trying to mute but i cant seem to get it
