Thank you for your videos. I just inherited a sweet Senegal from a friend who had to go into a nursing home. He is fast becoming my best buddy. Your videos are helping our relationship move along nicely. I can’t wait for him to be able to experience the outdoors with me using a harness. We tried our first harness but I think it was too small. I have contacted the company for mor advice. I actually had to cut it off his neck. It said it should fit snugly but even though it slipped on I was scared to pull it off because it pushed his neck feathers backward. I was afraid it would damage his feathers. I need to figure out how to properly feed him and believe your videos will be a big help. We just added pellets to his diet of previously only seeds.
Just got a rescue Severe Macaw, he hasn’t had the best life. So I wasn’t surprised at how nippy and aggressive he might be. But he steps up now and we can take him out with us to get coffee and to the park. So it’s a huuuuge improvement
So nice of you! Thank you :). The positive of getting an older bird is, what you see is what you get, with a baby you have to teach them everything from scratch. haha
What you great video, I’m preparing a cage for my first Senegal Parrot. I’m a little nervous because I have huge respect for them and their needs. But your videos are teaching me well. Thank you
Hiya Alan, thank you for your reply I’m all ready for my new female Senegal Parrot called Kessy this weekend can’t wait. Quick question the treats you give him are mostly peanuts and almonds do you count how many you give him during the day and what’s your limit you give? Thanks again.
I actually vary between raw almonds, cashews, pine nuts, macadamia nuts 🌰 and Brazil nuts these days. I limit them for training sessions my sessions are between 5-7 mins/2x day. And I give him small pieces of those bigger nuts think 1/8th of a whole nut. Then for really good behaviors/flight I’m working on I’ll give big ones randomly :) so I’ll limit how many he gets per times training session
Wow thank you Alan for your quick reply, thanks for that information about the treats. 1/8 of the nut I’m glad I know that now because the likes of the almond lol it’s big he gets a whole one, he think it’s Christmas Day 😂 Another question if you don’t mind is cleaning products around the house which ones you don’t use and your hands like soap or hand sanitizer will that affect your bird? Thanks again.
I make my own seed mix , no dyes or sugars or fruit mix in.all organic. I use the seeds as a topping on my chop so they get grains. And pellets at nite. I don’t feel store bought food is healthy due to the mixtures. Fruit in moderation not mixed in food 😊
What to do when they bite and you have then out of cage? Cage is a positive neutral area fir my bird. Some bird bite and fly away to head back to cage. How to not reenforce that behaviors. Great topic ,video for beginners
New sub btw , I have a caique that i got as a baby , and I trained her to fly more and more because caique are known to not be very good flyers.. it has been 3 years and she is a great flyer and she is the sweetest caique ever .
I’ve had my circle parrot for 30 years. I got it from hatched in a nest when it was first born and I said it and he thinks I’m his mama how to 30 years. He still thinks I am his mama. That’s the only way to get a bird is right. I have an egg. You’re the best things in the world, I was living in Florida and I talk to lady. She sold me a book to babysit a call right out of the map Ness. She shit. She couldn’t feed them and share them all sold so I’ll pick them up. She told me how to do it, I fed him and he flies to me, and he thinks I’m his mom. He won’t leave me.
Hi there Love your videos, we have a baby Amazon parrot, now in this video you say put the bird to sleep in another room, we have only the one cage how do we get round this because we have his cage in our lounge? Does this mean we need to have a second cage in another room to put him to sleep in ? Be really grateful if you could message me back thanks
I love my senegal parrot (Gypsy)🦜 🥰 but he eats everything from furniture to doors to remotes. Its like having a 5 year old hide everything cause he will chew it up . Any ideas on how to stop this bad behavior … maybe he has too much freedom ?? He’s always out of his cage when I’m home.. Thanks for your video
Naughty BIRB!! Haha I don’t give a reason for my Senegal to chew things or go where he’s not supposed to and I give him a reason(s) to chew his toys and stay on his stand :)
You mentioned not to come strait away when your bird screams for attention. Ok, but what to do when it continues on screaming? How to make it stop screaming and learn it that screaming is not acceptable?
I bought a mace from my daughter boyfriend. Look like the last owner didn’t take her of the parrot. Her nails is very long n her peaks is not in place. I have her two days now. Today she squawk a lot. When she squawk, she hang her self from the top. I am trying to understand her. but no luck, so I covered her cage. She got quiet when I cover her. Any suggestions on what I can do?

Can you give us some tips on how to train a bird to do simple tricks.
Check out www.parrotsandco.com/free-training
What are some good treats? What do you use for training treats? I think I saw in one of your videos that you had nuts (broken up, of course)...
Actually have a video about this on the channel: ua-cam.com/video/SuUVPYZvNpA/v-deo.html
Enjoy!! 😉
