Dil Chahta hai : You inviting Khamba to the group too sometimes
This love story shown between Akshay Khanna's and Dimple Kapadia's character is also way ahead of its time because it depicts a romantic relationship between an older woman and a younger man even though till date the reverse is most prominent in Bollywood movies.
There is no "reverse" happening in Bollywood today, and nor there is any "ahead of its time" to this love angle in DCH. The actors are playing their age, unlike in today's films where a Salman Khan plays a 35 year old.
In DCH, Dimple Kapadia is shown to be older than Akshaye.

@@Englishwithrohitraina you're right. It's not like Dimple Kapadia's character was a 20-year-old or something. Both played characters of their own age and a relationship was established. In that sense, it was a little ahead of its time because I don't think a lot of movies at that time were very comfortable showing a romantic relationship between an older woman and a younger man. What's happening in the movies today is just disturbing, to say the least.
I don't think any story tops this. The relationship between Akshay and Dimple was so beautiful and magical.
Totally! If this movie was made today, they'll probably cast Malaika Arora & Arjun Kapoor in those roles, because they're totally in character already!

This film was the best tourism ad for Goa. After this flick, Goa became the coolest holiday spot for all youngsters in the entire country. Even when you go to Aguada fort, they call it Dil Chahata Hai wala fort.
Its hilarious that even being a native goan I believed for the longest time that Aguada and not Chapora was the “Dil Chahta hai” fort! 😂

I watched Dil Chahta hai in 2003.. I was 8 years old at that time.. This film was way ahead of it's time... The dialogue that Dimple's character says in hospital that some relationships don't have any definition to it... I understood it's deeper meaning years later.. it was the game changer film in Bollywood.

I feel glad to live those emotions when this movie came out, the dream to go Goa with friends. Recreate that iconic title song. And ofc - Listening to Tanhayee watching out of the bus/car/train window.
I still honestly connect more to DCH than to ZMND .... There's something more raw, more real and more beautiful to it
@@RitwickChatterjee14 I think main difference between ZNMD and DCH is locations, most of us can't afford a spain trip or diving or jumping from pian with friends but many of us can connect with DCH's Goa trip, those fun moments at friends house, so obviously it's more memories and feelings connected with DCH.
I also like how Aamir dealt with the old homeless creep at the station. By not beating him up and instead scaring him off in an unconventional way, the movie went against the old trope of the hero having to beat up such characters everytime.
Quite poetic that the OGs of internet comedy in India are talking about the OG film about friendship . What chemistry between Tanmay, Rohan and Shakya.
Their mini reunion and talking about DCH is such Nostalgia !! ❤️❤️❤️

This movie changed my life 20 years ago. I have a 3 year old son now, and I’m waiting for the day I will watch the movie with him for the first time when he reaches his teens. Thank you Farhan and team for creating such an irreplaceable part of my life.

Before this movie I was a complete introvert. I didn’t socialise with anyone in school, focusing only on getting good marks and first rank (yes, I was such a nerd). When I saw DCH, I realised that life is short and things change before you even realise it. From then on I made a conscious effort to change myself. In college, I made my best friends and we are still in touch today. I can count on them for anything. If it wasn’t for this movie, I would have only my certificates for company

@@akshaychaurasiya1309 Well, both of the movies kinda have the similar vibe to them, but DCH is slightly more iconic as it was a landmark movie back then.
Most importantly, like Tanmay said, DCH still holds up to this date after twenty years.
ZNMD has its upsides, but it was a good movie, but not an iconic one. Other movies about friendships and relationships had came before ZNMD before was released.

Great fun review! But I think good Akshay hit Amir on that “light-hearted joke”. Thing is men and women should always know the limits of joking. And what Amir had said was actually derogatory to the woman and not funny at all. This film thankfully to tried remind men that locker-room, guy talks even among friends must always have some real, justified limits. Kudos for this!
"What "experience" did you think Tanmay- in interior design?" has to be the most funniest line in this interaction. Ashish is so under-rated!

@@mohdrafeh5064 Personally I would place Rock On!! instead of Pyaar Ka Punchnama in that list. My only gripe, if any, is Rock On!!'s main plot (friend's drifted apart years ago come together in present day) is way too similar to DCH. It was like watching a remake. Still loved it though. Both Akhtar siblings are extremely talented filmmakers.

There was one more scene where after shalini goes & after Akash returns to his apartment he wanted to call Sameer but accidently calls Sid instead & realises he was his one true friend & he made fun of dilemma with his true love which was pretty much the same thing he was going through at the moment.
