The coolest and most noticeable police cruiser sirens I've heard were used on Snohomish County Sheriff's cars in the late 1980's to early 1990's. Sounded sort of like the EQ2B but the wave pattern was much sharper, imagine a Powercall half an octave higher and pumped through an electric guitar distortion box. The Rumbler is just a siren subwoofer but it makes the sound travel further (lower frequencies do that).
I'm an EMT, and I know for certain that the high pitches whelen or most ANY siren can be hard to hear sometimes...this rumbler is EXACTLY where I hear the BEST. good idea! :)
It was that was in the 70's too. County/State, most cities were all blue. Sevierville was one of the exceptions. SPD was all Ford, except for two 78' Chev Novas that were piggybacked with an order with UT police. Me, I like all blue with yellow flashers in the rear.
Awesome ! In Germany the police has only two different modes and they sound nearly the same. Just one for urban driving and one longer reaching for country driving. I read that they are experimenting with the yelp for stopping, but I don't know when it will be in normal use.
@sexyneu You need a Federal Signal (brand of siren) SS2000 (model) with Rumbler (optional), select "Air Horn"; the tone or sound emitted, like a heavy truck or train horn. Rumbler is an option by Federal w/speakers that add low frequency sound to help alert drivers with A/C, loud stereo, etc.
The frequency is low so that you actually feel it... its for hearing impaired to warn them of the cruiser. Its like when a car with a loud thumping stereo goes by the house and rattles the dishes in the cupboards.
its like hearing a subwoofer i believe, so you "feel" the siren tones in addition to hearing them, like when johnny 96 civic drives by w/ techno thumping, probably a similar experience. But to be honest i have never actually heard the system, but this is how its marketed.
Like robot313 said, they're all different ways of getting people's attention. From what I've seen, the wail (the first siren you hear) is for driving down roads with less traffic, then you use the yelp (the second one) as you start getting into traffic, and the quick one, "interceptor", is used mostly for clearing through intersections. I could be wrong but that's what I've seen.
GM Onstar service have invented such feature. Any GM car could have engine stopped remotely, but left only with steering wheel so the driver might pull-over by himself. Search on here to find more ^^
The different ones are just different ways to get peoples attention. If they always use the same one people get accustomed to it especially in big cities where police are everywhere and then people start tuning it out.
What was that last sound, the one that sounded like some sort of a horn? I remember when I was stationed at Ft. Knox, the MPs would blow a horn or something that sounded just like that.
nice video but man some cars have up to like 10 bright LED flashers for the rear and it's almost blinding when driving down the road. god forbid if someone has a epileptic seizure
Its called rumbler. Its made to get motorists attention if using cell phone ipod or radio. It was alo made for deph people to hear it. Im a cop. Im a njst. New Jersey State Police. My car number is 825. And it hs the rumbler.
how much did the rumbler cost per vehicle? do you feel that it was worth it? from what I can tell if it brings attention to you and allows the general public to have a chance to get out of your way. Hells ya its worth it.
Has there ever been any actual research on weather it's more effective to just let the automatic siren go continuously though its cylcle, or to keep pressing the manual siren? I would imagine that a continuous siren would be more effective, but some people claim that the manual siren is actually more of an attention getter. Just curious if there is any actual research behind this, or everyone just uses whatever siren sounds they personally prefer.
@6V92TA What is that rumbler ? is it the deep sound when the signal rises and falls ? Whats the matter of that. I´m from Germany I don´t know that... Xplain me please
they need to go ahead and just invent something instead of having to get your attention, they just cut your car off. Oh wait....thats the pit manuever...nevermind.
I wish we would. College town..........need I say more? I sat at a red light, priority one while a carload of girls ON CELL phones, IN a convertable blew right past us. If I hadn`t stopped and waited...who knows...They looked up like "uh oh....totally oops".....I swear, they were talking to each other on those cells....lol...Blonde college chickas...
i dont like that kind of lightbar...im partial to rotaters on the bar. flashers, strobes, and whatever else anywhere else. just have to have my rotaters.

Wow 15 years later and I’m here to see a sexy Crown Vic with a select siren.
Watching again on 2021 *_* Good Memories! Loved this video!
That rumbler is awesome, you can feel a little bit just listening to the video
Gotta love that hyper-yelp @ 0:40... best siren noise ever, other than fire-truck air horn, its gotta be hands down the best for attention getting...
My sub speaker just went nuts when the rumbler came on at 00:24 LOL !!!
Great siren, gets your attention even with the windows rolled up ;)

the rumbler is amazing!!!! this sounds great, holy crap
nothin' like a good ol fashioned boat horn!
Nice car and set up. I Like your smooth exit out of the vehicle too...
that does have a nice sound to it, very intimidating
I like the way sevierville has their cars set up
The lower-pitched siren. It creates vibrations that you can feel in your car so it's more likely to get people's attention.
Very clean and well taken care of vehicle.
Awesome !

I CAN FEEL IT THROUGH MY SPEAKERS!!!

we call that black and white fever. People allways get all attentive when the cruisers show up.
The frequency is low so that you actually feel it... its for hearing impaired to warn them of the cruiser. Its like when a car with a loud thumping stereo goes by the house and rattles the dishes in the cupboards.

Like NYPD
i like the lights on the car
its like a directional vibrating thing so u FEEL when you might not HEAR

If this is successful, it is LONG, LONG overdue.
All blue is usually a southern tradition.
My truck vibrates enough already, I wouldn't feel a thing. lol

love the siren
Sevierville Police Department, Sevierville, TN. They are about a half hour southeast of Knoxville, TN.
Do you know if they are available to PO's in NJ yet? Thanks nice vid
I don't wanna get in your way----I learned my lesson when a fire truck pulled da Q on me!!
smart siren kicks ass
That suck that your friends apartment got rubbed!!! Damned rubbers!!!
The different ones are just different ways to get peoples attention. If they always use the same one people get accustomed to it especially in big cities where police are everywhere and then people start tuning it out.
The rumbler reduce the signals´ frequency by 75%. 2 high output subwoofers used.
thats a beautiful cop car!
What was that last sound, the one that sounded like some sort of a horn? I remember when I was stationed at Ft. Knox, the MPs would blow a horn or something that sounded just like that.

Freakin awesome.
do you find it hard to drive and change the tone of the siren at the same time? thank you
COOL SIRENS!!!!!!!!!!!
can you make a video from the inside showing the control box/switches/buttons?
im with ya
I don't get it, what exactly is a rumbler? Is it like a subwoofer that accompanies the normal siren?
you can turn one of those into a beat box. lol. but wheres the rumbler? like what is that exactly?
LOL he walked off laughing
You have to see and hear and feel it in person to do the rumbler any justice. I have seen it in action. It works.
depends on state and what color lights you are using..

What is the nosie when the siren is going? is that the "Rumbler"
it's funny u say this. all DC police cars use the smartsiren and the ambulances use whelen systems
well its the public money so they have the right to get pissed.
is that a sevierville police car?
very true i have to agree
the only reason why id become a cop is for the car lights and siren
@6V92TA
