Just back from a stay in CPH and wanted to say that this video was really helpful, thanks guys! As an example to others watching, in 24 hours we managed to do Rosenborg Castle, Designmuseum Denmark, Amalienborg rooms, Staatsmuseum Voor Kunst, The Architecture Centre, Christiansborg Ruins and Tivoli entrace with 10 minutes to spare, plus 5-6 metro journeys and never felt rushed! The weather just wasn't good enough last week for the boat trip - but we have a reason to return! A couple of notes since this video was released: - The Round Tower is no longer on the CPH card, but is a small fee (40DKK) to pay to go up, and I would recommend it. - You can leave Tivoli via the Food Hall and get your hand stamped so that you can come back later for the lights show.
Wow...I'm really impressed about they way you present your information and get right to the point. Thank you so much. We will definitely buy the card through your link.
My grandmother lived around the corner from Our Saviors church (Vor Frelsers kirke). As kids and teens my sister and I would often climb the many stairs to the top of the spire. The view from there is spectacular. I think the number of steps from the entrance to the top is about 400. Great video of the attractions in Copenhagen. Well done.
I'm kind of lazy traveler- I like to go with the flow, and to me the luxury of a vacation is not being scheduled and beholden to a clock. I think I bought the card for 1 or 2 days once and it was good for days when you want to pack a lot in. If travelling from the US, even if you're sleepy and jet lagged, it's more important to try to get your butt out of bed, get some strong coffee in you, and get moving because stuff tends to close a little earlier than what you're used to, and in the fall/winter you want to maximize daylight activities. And yes, they will "card" you on Metro and S-tog, so be prepared!
You do this so well, Derek! Some time you'll have to make one outside of Cph. 🤔 - Helsingør & Kronborg Castle - Roskilde & Domkirken/Viking Museum - Hillerød & Frederiksborg Slot - Odense & H.C.Andersen Museum - Århus & Gammel By : maybe a Viking Hall or two? and some of all our bridges? hello from Hundested 🌸

I have used it the last two times I was in Denmark. We hade the 3 days one and it was a lifesaver. Great we loved it and saw everything we wanted to see.❤️❤️
It really saves a lot and makes it easy - there’s something nice about just walking up to a ticket booth and flashing the card too 😂 I know it’s silly but it feels good somehow.
Fantastic! So happy to hear that and hope you love the city as much as we do and really hope we were able to help you with your trip 😊🇩🇰 Anything topic you think we should cover next that’s been hard to find information on?
Thank you so much for this guide! It is so well done, and will be very helpful for my trip in October. P.S. Copenhagen is currently the top of my list for cities I would like to live in next year! I have only lived in cities here in the US, and it's time for a change. This channel has been so inspiring, helpful, and insightful!
Thanks for watching! So glad that you found us and to hear we’ve helped in trip planning and potentially moving. We really hope you love Copenhagen as much as we do and October can be such a great time of year here. When you have a warm sunny day in October it’s so nice! 😊🇩🇰
Derek and Mike, after watching your videos for years (along with Traveling Young), I bought my tickets yesterday and am traveling to Denmark in August. It’s a dream of a lifetime trip. Thanks for all your helpful hints! 😊
Hi! Great video! I just want to get some clarification i was wondering if you can help me with this. If i buy the copenhagen card, do I have to prebook all the attractions? The museums, the palaceses, rosenborg/cristiansborg etc or do I just go there with my card?
So glad it was helpful! You do not have to prebook any of the attractions but it can be helpful to book those you can. I rebooked the climb to the top of the church of our savior because it fills up and I wanted to have a specific time. If I planned this again I would consider reserving a time for the canal boat tour, but you can also do that at the ticket stand and book for a later tour. Have a wonderful time in Copenhagen 😃
Personally, I found the Rejsekort cheaper and more suitable. I spent 1 week in CPH, 1 week in Odense, and my final week in Aarhus. Using the Rejsekort to sight see in each location was cheap and easy to use. However, to travel from CPH to Odense or Odense to Aarhus, I bought an Orange DSB train ticket online, that is cheapest when you're travelling that far from one major city of Denmark to another major city. An Orange DSB is about $200 to 300 Kroner, whereas if you use your Rejsekort to travel from CPH to Odense or Aarhus, it'll cos you $600 Kroner with the Rejsekort. Most attractions in CPH are free... the things that most tourist go and see in Copenhagen is completely free anyway, so I found the Copenhagen card pointless, as I only needed to pay entry for a few places while I was there, which was Frederiksberg Slot and Garden, and a Museum in CPH city center, and Tivoli. I did travel to Roskilde too, to see a Viking Museum, that cost for entry but again... I don't mind paying, most entry fees for 1 adult is from $100 DKK to $130 DKK, that's nothing in my local currency. I think the Copenhagen card is convenient if you're staying in CPH for a few days and only plan to stay in or around the main city central area where you can walk to the things you want to see. Download the "Rejseplan" app on your phone. It helps you to plan what bus/train to take to get to your location/attraction. I find visiting Tivoli on a friday or saturday in the afternoon and staying until midnight to be the best, because fridays and saturdays Tivoli has a firework show that starts somewhere around 11:30pm to midnight, and it's cool to see, It's nothing major or big but it's beautiful to see at night when all the lights at Tivoli are on. I find Tivoli most beautiful at night time than day time.
Great video, question how did it work with the boat tour etc - does the app allow you to pre-book a time slot? (before you activate your card etc) or is there no need to pre-book ?
I can see the bennifit of it, but also see the minus with it. It really depends on your travel style. A great example for a museum tour that is cheaper and totally walkable is the Parkmusems but if you are going much around and head for atractions not on other discount options then it's great... and if you want somthing that is hassel free no need to think alot then it's great.
I went on the same day and reserved my spot. They gave me a paper ticket and confirmation and I returned to board the boat. It was peak season when I recorded this, but the next boat to depart still had spots open for me. I believe I waited for a later boat and did Christianborg first (it’s right across the canal from the ticket office). Have a great trip 🤩
Super helpful. I'm visiting in October. I've wanted to visit for years, but my ex is from/lives there so I didn't want to seem weird but we split up ten years ago so I think I'm okay now 😅👍🏻
All the videos I've seen on your channel are fantastic. I am going to Copenhagen in September. In this video, I don't quite understand the schedule you made. You say you leave in the afternoon of the first day, but you go to Christiansborg Palace, where you spend an hour and a half. I think it closes at 5:00 p.m. and after that you can still go to the National Museum where you say you stay for two hours. To do all this you would have to leave in the morning, right? The next day you also make many visits. I don't even understand what schedule you did, since you say that 24 hours are 24 hours and I don't think everything seen can be done in 24 hours considering schedules
Thanks so much, I hope they help you with your trip planning 😊 I activated at 2:15 pm, went to christianborg from 2:30-4:00 and then to the national museum until it closed at 6:00 pm This is the itinerary: www.thatch.co/guide/16rx3ykim1kmb/view?s=W1rm345SBoezYdeGw6QeZUkEMPj2&s_f=m_g&s_t=c_l&s_b=n
We are visiting Copenhagen on a Baltic cruise for 2 days (Arriving 9am and departing 8pm next day). In your opinion would you visit Frederiksborg Castle or would you dedicate more time in the city itself? We hope to visit Rosenborg, Amalienborg and Christiansborg too + Tivoli in the late afternoon and evening on the first night. Are certain castles/palaces a must over others? Thanks for your help! Excellent videos :)
So glad this helped and hope you have a great trip ahead of you! There’s probably a lot of opinions, but I would personally prioritize the attractions in the city itself with a short time window. Frederiksborg Castle is gorgeous and super impressive, the nicest in my opinion, but the time it takes to get there would pull you away from the ability to see more things in a short period of time in the city. I would prioritize Amalienborg the least if you find yourself wanting to spend more time at Tivoli or elsewhere, but the nice thing with the Copenhagen Card is you can feel less guilty doing a “whistle stop” tour of each castle.
Hi! Thank you so much for the video. It has been so helpful while planning my trip to Copenhagen. May I ask if I buy the day pass, do I have to pick the exact day/date when purchasing? Or just buy the pass and activate it on the day of my choice?
So glad this has been helpful 😃 I did pick a day/date when I ordered on GYG but I believe that’s just because of their platform - I received the confirmation and could have activated it immediately or on a later date than I entered when I ordered. The card does not expire until 2 years after purchase date, so you can activate it anytime in that period 😊 Have a wonderful trip.
Nice channel, your videos are very informative and easy to watch. You got yourself a new sub 😀 Have you ever been to the DR Koncerthuset and experienced the Danish National Symphony? Asking for a friend of course. *g*
Thanks for the sub, so glad you are enjoying our videos. And yes, we have been to DR Koncerthuset but we have not yet seen the symphony there - only a drag show, so ironically almost the opposite LOL
I went to Copenhagen for 2 weeks this late spring and found that if you’re not doing many touristy things then the Copenhagen Card is definitely not worth it. You’re better off getting a City metro pass and doing your own thing.
You can buy it in advance, it doesn’t begin until you use it for the first time - for me it was when I clicked on the app to initiate the card and I did this right before I stepped onto the metro and it began counting down from 24 hours then 😊
Soon be staying in Copenhagen for 3 nights...the Copenhagen card, can I purchase for two people on one account or is the account for per person? (We're going as a couple) - another question I was looking at 96 hrs and plan to go on the train to the central station from the airport station at 14.00hr (Fri) - return back to the airport at 15.00hr (Mon) so not sure will 96 hours cover that time...or will we be pushed for time?
Yes, you can have two cards held on one app, you just swipe it to the right and left to display one or the other and you can pull up both transport and attraction QR codes/barcodes 😊 It IS truly 96 hours, so when the card expires you will lose the transportation verification QR code. You can buy a single ticket at the train station though. You’d need a 3-zone ticket and that’s 36 kr each ticket or $5.25. Another option could be to head to the airport a little early and do it on the card or even trim a little time on both ends - say activate the card at 14.30 when you head to central station on arrival and head back to the airport a bit early too so you arrive by 14.30 for departure.
For both transportation and attractions. So it can basically triple the savings (well, a little less than triple because kids tickets for both are typically less).
You just have to activate it when you first use it - in the video this was when I first used public transportation (so I activated it via the app when I walked into the metro car).
Hi Robe Trotting, I'm visiting Copemhagen from 6 to 12 of this september 2023. Should I purchase a 120 hours card? I travel solo so I appreciate all the tips and if you guys are interested, we can do a meet-up too 😄😄
It depends on your travel style of course, but I think it's well-worth it if you plan your itinerary out in advance - trying to do most of the attractions in the city center in your first two days means that you can add trips out of the city (to Helsingør and Kronborg Castle, to Roskilde for the Viking Ship Museum and Cathedral, and to Frederiksborg Castle in Hillerød) for the additional days. Besides the entry, the transport to the attractions outside of the city will make it worthwhile and of course you can use it to get around within the city as well. I would think you'll save at least what I did in the video and you can spread out your itinerary over the extra days and fit in the day trips or half-day trips outside of the city center with transport.
The cost of a ticket to The Danish Nationalmuseum is actually 120 danish kroner and not 72... At least based on my last visit and their website... :) Other than that great video...
Hmmm, I was going off of the receipt that I got there but maybe it was some kind of a discounted price or time of day etc - I didn’t cross reference the website 🙈
Sorry guys that should be Royal Yacht and not Royal Yard (My bad) Dannebrog is from 1932 and as you know is still in use. The Norwegian Royal Yacht (Norge), which is also in use today, is from 1947. The English Royal Yacht (Britannia) is from 1954, was decommissioned and laid up in 1997.@@RobeTrotting
I have, go watch those videos. I live in Copenhagen so I’m not an expert on other cities but you should make those videos since you are the one who knows real Denmark ✌️
Are you sure about your math here? You say you saved $67,30, but as gar as I can make out from the video, that's what you paid for the card!? So, shouldn't spending $143 make a saving of $75,70?
That route through Copenhagen is so American. Here's an activity, then 2-3 minutes later, here's your next activity. This is pretty much speedrunning Copenhagen.
The architect of Church of Our Savior committed suicide by jumping from the tower when it was finished as he discovered he had done the spiral stairs the wrong way around the tower.
That’s actually an urban legend. There were two architects and one died before it was built and the other died in bed seven years after it was completed.
I used a 3 day GetYourGuide Krakow pass in May, did not know the booking thing, so a bit confusing. Planned every day to the max. Was a blast. Hej..yes/no please..tank you…have a great day :)
Can you buy the card in advance or does it activate immediately?
You can buy it in advance, it doesn’t begin until you use it for the first time - for me it was when I clicked on the app to initiate the card and I did this right before I stepped onto the metro and it began counting down from 24 hours then 😊
@@RobeTrotting Awesome. Thanks. 🙂
Last time I was in the national museum (2010) it was free to enter
Is this strictly 24 hours nor calendar day? If I start 12 noon, it will work until 12 noon next day.
That’s is correct, it’s per 24 hours and not per calendar day so it counts down from when you activate the card 😊
Do the free cards for children 3-11 cover for both public transportation and attractions or just for transportation? Thank you!
For both transportation and attractions. So it can basically triple the savings (well, a little less than triple because kids tickets for both are typically less).
Yes it covers everything when the children are with an adult. 😊
I am getting a Copenhagen card .Do I have to activate the card when I first use the card in every station?
@@RobeTrottingI'm wondering if I should get a smaller one since I'm mostly interested in food while traveling 😂
I have a cheap phone. Barely works can't afford expensive phone.retired. can I get card in my hand?
The cost of a ticket to The Danish Nationalmuseum is actually 120 danish kroner and not 72... At least based on my last visit and their website... :) Other than that great video...
Hmmm, I was going off of the receipt that I got there but maybe it was some kind of a discounted price or time of day etc - I didn’t cross reference the website 🙈
I thought it was too low too
Hi, just so you know, the royal yard featured in the video is the world's oldest royal yard.
I don’t know what qualifies as a yard, but Windsor castle was built in the 11th century 🤔
Hallo from Philly. I’ve enjoyed your vids and bought the pass to use on Friday. Does this also include the stromma tour buses? Hy hy
Denmark has so much more to offer than just copenhagen. When are you traveling in to the real denmark.
I saved $75.70 - that’s the saved number at the end (the card is $67.30)
@RobeTrotting at 16:15 you actually say in the video that you saved $67.30.
That route through Copenhagen is so American. Here's an activity, then 2-3 minutes later, here's your next activity. This is pretty much speedrunning Copenhagen.
Ohhhhhh yeah, soooooooo American 🙄 it’s literally a video about how to save money with the Copenhagen card. Touch grass.
I don’t hear a Danish accent from you
I'm not Danish, but I live in Denmark
The architect of Church of Our Savior committed suicide by jumping from the tower when it was finished as he discovered he had done the spiral stairs the wrong way around the tower.
That’s actually an urban legend. There were two architects and one died before it was built and the other died in bed seven years after it was completed.
I used a 3 day GetYourGuide Krakow pass in May, did not know the booking thing, so a bit confusing. Planned every day to the max. Was a blast. And had 2 Free Walking Tour of Krakow around the city, (did them start of the week, so i did know the city better :) ) , the "free" tours, we only had to give a tip. And ofc thanks for YOUR guide.
❤️ They’re so helpful and we love Krakow, we took my mom there for her 60th birthday. Her grandmother came over from Poland and we got in touch with her second cousins - it was a really memorable trip 😃
@@RobeTrotting oh, very nice :) ,, so you got a "local" guide :) . I made a "dicount" vacation, Ryan Air, a okay apartment, and on foot around the city, only a Uber for the Aviation museum,
