Synopsis : Jitendra Gupta lives a poor lifestyle in Calcutta, India, along with his elder and widowed sister, and a niece named Sushma. He works in the editorial department of a leading newspaper. He unauthorizedly exposes unscrupulous persons that are related to the newspaper's board of directors, leading to him being reprimanded by the Managing Director, Amita Sinha, and being forced to resign. Amita does have a change of heart, when she finds out that he had printed the truth, not only reinstates him but promotes him as the Chief Editor, and falls in love with him. Amita lives a wealthy lifestyle with her sister, Sunita, and is all set to tell her the good news that she finds out that Sunita has fallen in love with him also. Amita decides to give up on Jitendra in her sisters' interest. Shortly thereafter she receives a marriage proposal from wealthy Vikram Varma, the brother of a Director of the newspaper, for Sunita's hand. Will Amita seek this opportunity to wed Sunita with Vikram - and have Jitendra for herself?

Aap Kei Haseen Rukh Pei Aaj Naya Noor Hei - by Rafi is a lovely song. Nice to see young Dharmendar, Mala Sinha and Tanuja in the movie.Mala Sinha came out superb.

As a child I went with my parents to see this movie three times but never got tickets as it was all the times housefull although most movies in 1966 were coloured and this was B&W.
A movie with substance, drama, and morale. The story pivots around 3 main characters. A well-made film that works for its powerful plot, engaging script, commanding dialogue, and super performances, especially of Mala Sinha, Dharmendra, and Tanuja. Lyrics and melody coalesced into creating an exquisite harmony. OP Nayyar again created magic with Rafi and Asha. Overall, a beautiful and enjoyable presentation of Guru Dutt. Thanks for this movie !!

Wow...thanks for the info...I love these little tit-bits about history of Hindi Films .( I am a young guy and quiet frankly I cant stand the rubbish being presented to us these days , once in a while a film like MaryKom comes up thats worth watching otherwise what bollywood produces these days are soul-less mind numbing films ). I must thank YT as here I get to see why the 50s and 60s are considered to be the Golden Era .

+Galavya41 The film began in 1963, by Gurudutt with Gurudutt himself playing the hero. However by the time the film was about 75% complete, Gurudutt decided to say good bye to us. His brother Atmaram then hired Dharmendra to complete the film and bring it to screens.

I like MS but she tends to go overboard at times.Shes great at melodramatic scenes. Tanuja is fresh faced.
Nice movie
the movie starts off ok, albeit with the eternal love triangle. Flaw in the character. Initially portrayed as a strong woman leading a newspaper, then becomes emotionally unraveled. Writers still have trouble placing strong women in a patriarchal landscape.
Waste of my breath
Some parts of this movie are engaging, but Mala Sinha seems to be overacting. Poor story line. Mala Sinha's character non-convincing.
