I have my pitcher plant in sphagnum moss and keep it moist. It's under medium light. I water with a filtered pitcher water and keep the room at 60% humidity for at least 12 hrs. It still grows pitchers. Good luck with yours. It looks healthy and green.
What an interesting video! I too, have found the pink splash syngonium a bit difficult. It is now in a greenhouse setting and pushing out new leaves. 🙏🌱
I also struggled with the root rot on Thai Con!! Firstly it rotted in soil, then I re-rooted in moss, obviously it rooted again, now it's finally thriving in semi-hydro.
my top "wants to die on me" plant is for sure the Fiddle Leaf Fig. I'm on my second one. The first one had a real bad spider mite infestation. Second one threw a huge fit when i brought her home and lost a ton of leaves, but hopefully it'll actually grow something new.
I'm not an expert but experience with syngoniums hopefully will help with the syngonium. I live in Canada too, so we might share similar growing conditions. 🙂 Have you tried placing it in a spot that is slightly less bright, or keeping it in the same spot but altering the growing medium? If you do plan on doing the latter, maybe adding some vermiculite to the soil will help. Or maybe putting it in LECA or pon would decrease the amount of watering you need to do. All of mine live in soil. The ones that receive about 150 to 200 footcandles get watered every 7 to 10-ish days. But the one by a north window and the one about 8ft away from a south window definitely have to be watered every week. Soil toppers and more worm castings in barky soil have definitely helped keep the substrate retain more moisture slightly longer and the leaves coming.
For me Imbricata is surprisingly very easy. I have it in moss under cloche and grow light and it’s growing great. I spray it with water every couple weeks. I recently put a piece of bark in there and it started growing on the bark. It’s such a cool and weird plant.
my pitcher plant is the first plant I got and it's grown a lot with me. it's 2 years old...I don't give it distilled water...humidity is around 45-50%...it sits in a window and I water it all the time. this season I got huge new pitchers out of it
The Trick with getting pitchers on your pitcher plant is 1-2 times a day spraying the growing pitcher. My boyfriend is obsessed with carnivorous plants and is amazing at having them flourish and that is his secret! Since he started doing that, consistent huge pitchers.
Thanks, I won’t get a high maintenance plant. Recently I bought 6 plants and 1 is l Pitiful,, 2 are alMost dead. When I water them, the water does.not absorb. Just goes through to the saucer.
I had the same issue with my syngonium pink splash. I have about 8 or 9 different varieties of syngonium & this was the fussiest! I bought it with 7 leaves & lost 5 of those pretty quickly. I put it in terracotta & it is now thriving & continously giving me new leaves. I dont think it likes to sit in wet soil for to long & plastic or ceramic (like I had it in originally) holds to much water for its liking.
The Thai really can be a challenge with root rot or stem rot. When the one I have started rotting I laid it out on the table for about 3 hours an let it air dry. It worked an now it’s growing.
I had a syngonium for a few years, it got pretty big too, and then it pretty quickly died off. I suspect it was a watering issue. That pink splash is super cute though!
Chinese evergreens come to my house to die, no matter what I do. And they’re suppose to be “user friendly” 😂. I’d be interested in learning more about spent nodes...can you do a video on that? Thanks for sharing.
I have just bought a melanochrysum as I didn't know he needs so much humidity. Mine unfurled his first leaf by the humidifier, but I moved in behind my monitor so I can admire it all day. Seems I'll need to move it back by the humidifier. ☹
I find the only way I can keep syngonium alive is in lecca, they thrive in lecca they’re all doing amazing. But I struggle so bad with gloriousum. I’ve rotted the roots on two, killed one & now my second one just lost all of its roots & I’m trying to reroot it, definitely the plant I struggled with most. I definitely recommend putting syngonium in lecca they take very well & love it especially my pink splash!
I got a rooted Dubia cutting that has given me nothing but grief...travel wasn't kind to it (arrived a bit dry), but it continued to suffer after rehydrating and putting in moss. I switched it to perlite, and then it started to rot. Now I pretty much have a wet stick that I'm trying to salvage :(.
I feel like all plants struggle when you’re getting tiny, immature, plants from online. Cuttings, or nodes with little to no roots aren’t ideal for our homes. These plants simply aren’t ready to be in a home environment and should be in greenhouses. The plant craze means suppliers are sending out plants that aren’t ready, aren’t established. A tiny baby string of turtles is hard to keep alive but a full 6 inch hanging basket packed full of turtles, with a mature root system is incredibly easy to grow. This goes for all types of plants.
@@mycharmedunicorn8715 Definitely. It can be so hard to find established plants! Even with costa farms, who supplies the Lowe’s near me, I’ve bought what looked like a packed full, huge, hanging basket of Pothos, the Exotica variety only to find out it was a basket full of barely rooted cuttings. It struggled for a full year. And that’s a Pothos, they are known to be easy growers!
One of my lessons In caring for my tropical plants is learning about the soils. Soon as I switched up to Bark, worm castings perlite, moss, things seemed to turn around, for me. I know you mentioned perlite, but what type of a foundation are using ?
Great video!!! I love the foliage on my picher plant. Some of my so called easiest plants are on the struggle bus like the mican brandy maranta lemon lime and I think I killed my
Surprised Queen Anthurium didn’t make list. Maybe video on cheaper plants that are rare plant dupes like micans looks similar to young melano and can get bigger leaves staked on pole. Lots of cheaper plants with nice variagation.
@@LulusLeaves noticed some white sectoral and splashing variegation on my Golden pothos propagation and more intense yellow for one under grow lights. Never-never plant has nice sectoral yellow variegation. Pearls and Jade has the white and green splashing. There must be more you can unearth.
Does anyone have advice on how to stop the roots from rotting for Thai constellation? My Thai has enough roots that I don’t need to re-root it in water or moss (currently in well draining soil) but small bits keep rotting but new ones are also growing. When I water about every 10 days or so when the soil is dry and I check the roots I always find bits of rotted roots! I snip it off to the healthy parts but find other parts of the roots rotting bit by bit the next time I water:( it’s been so stressful!!
I somehow can't keep Alocasias alive they thrive at first but after a month or so just throw off all their leaves. Trying to switch my sad alocasia with 1 leaf to lecca now, hopefully it'll help
I have always struggled with A. Amazonicas....I’ve just come to the conclusion that they hate me 😅 posted a clip of it in my houseplant tour a few days ago, check it out if you wanna!
Shoppers drug mart is open during lockdown and sells distilled water I have a massive pitcher plant and palm sized pitchers, watering with tap water is just wrong!!!!
I watched her video through a second time after reading your comment, but I'm just not hearing what you're hearing. She only says "but" when it's grammatically appropriate.
Lol- I read this comment when she was still on the first plant. Its all I can hear now 😂 I think shes great at explaining things though so its fine. There is a plant youtuber that smacks her lips all through her videos though and I cant watch them anymore. I'll take a repetive word over the lip smacking anyday 😣
Began collecting plants in my home since watching your videos. You help giving me the care needed for them to survive.
It’s so interesting how different plants in the same genus can have such different requirements. Plants are just so darn cool.
Wow the Monstera thai constellation was a surprise! Thanks for sharing!
Good to have this information before making a purchase! Many thanks!!😊

I love these types of videos because one of my first plants was a calathea and I had no idea how difficult for a newbie like me haha

Idk what you did different but love today’s look. I’ve also found that the Syngonium need more water than I initially thought they would.

Pitcher plant is literally my wishlist plant atm
Your melanochrysome is gorgeous. Suprised to hear about syngonium issues- mine all grow like weeds.
Love that veitchii.
That was very helpful. I am not a big traveler but my husband is and I don't want to make any work for other people because of my hobby

So happy that the a. Veitchii isn‘t on the list since i have one on the way👀
My syngoniums in general like swampy conditions.
Despite the warnings, I might have to try out that Pitcher plant.... LOVE HER!
The most success ive had with Thai cons is in semi hydro. You dint jeed to worry about over/under watering

🌱 great tip on the melanochrysum! I just ordered a baby one!
I also really struggle with my pink splash it’s such a pain. Gorgeous plant but I can’t get it to grow!
Seems like the plants who need higher humidity are the more challenging ones
Informative. Love your melanochrysum.
Awesome video 🥰
I had the same problem with my syngonium pink splash, I am try a top cutting in Leca to see if it grows better 🌱
I would add Cissus Discolor to this list! For me it was ONLY happy in a takeout container of sphagnum - even still it didn't grow very well!

I would love a video about when you use moss, Leca and Pon vs soil. I am confused.
I have one on this if you look far enough back

The melanochrysum sounds like extra work. Thanks for the info.
Good video
Almost all those plants are currently on my wishlist.. would you say higher humidity could help?
100%!
leave waterjars over night, it is better than straight from the that to the nepenthes
The Thai constellation only grows well for me in leca. My albos are waaaay easier to care for in terms of root rot.
Same here, mine finally is doing well in leca and perlite semi-hydro.

Friendly suggestion... go back and watch your video and count how many times you say the word "but". Kinda one of those words that gets overused.
