For context, this song is originally by Stan Rogers, an icon of Canadian folk music. He wrote it comparing his traveling as a musician across Canada with the explorers looking for the Northwest Passage. (Unleash the Archers are Canadian) If you want a taste of Stan Rogers, I highly recommend "The Mary Ellen Carter". One of the most inspiring songs I know.
Or, maybe Barrett's Privateers?
@@Protege2001The Real McKenzies do a great rendition of Barrett's
@@WillVafuth Dreadnoughts as well!
You haven't even scratched the surface of this awesome band
Agree
The song by Stan Rogers dates from 1981, so you're right about it is much older than the band. The song is older than some of the people in the band.
The band usually writes songs that fit into sci-fi based concept albums. Brittney produces the story lines, writes the lyrics and vocal melodies. "Awakening" is the song that reactors usually start with as it's the first song of a story that spans two albums. The studio play through video really puts their guitar and drum work on display.
Brittney was classically trained, singing mostly chamber music for an award winning university choir. She doesn't use her classical voice in UTA, but recently she filled in for Floor Jansen on a Star One project live performance and we got to hear her use that technique live on stage. So you're right about her standing in the metal business when she replaces Floor Jansen while Floor was off having a baby. She nailed it too . . .
I love this version of Northwest Passage - it's so powerful. I'm German and got to know this song and Stan Rogers via the series "Due South". Well, most of my knowledge about Canada comes from that series and The Beachcombers ;)
Check out "Letterkenny", at least some of the clips from their UA-cam channel. Very good example of our Canadian sense of humour. "Due South" was a wonderful show, so I know you've got taste.
You are absolutely right this is a cover of a Canadian folk song. Unleash the archers are a Canadian group and my personal favourite song from them is "awakening".
I love this band 🤘🤘🤘
UTA- Awakening is dope. They're a great band
UTA is awesome....deep catalog. This is a cover of an old Canadian folk song.
One of my favourite metal bands right now covering Canada's unofficial second national anthem, originally by the great Stan Rogers. Check out Stan sometime, fantastic folk singer (so is his son, Nathan, as it turns out). Unleash the Archers have a new album coming May 10th and I'm very excited. Their last two were concept albums, one fantasy epic told across both, and this one appears to be about AI.
Your reaction when the music kicks in is perfect! Just smiling! This is what power metal can do!! I love it!! :D
My favorite song/cover by UTA,
I love UTA. Next stop Test Your Metal, Awakening, Tonight We Rider. Metal greatings 🤘
UTA is amazing and sounds just as good live ❤
ill admit it took me an embarrassing amount of time listening to realize Apex and Abyss albums were one long story
This is a cover of a very famous Stan Rogers folk song. UTA is a phenomenal band, but most of their tracks are more fiction and fantasy. Especially over the last few years they've been releasing a trilogy of concept albums. Equally incredible to listen to. I highly, highly suggest you check out "Awakening" as it's the starting track of the trilogy and sets up the story.
CBC radio once polled Canadians on alternative nation anthems and this song by Stan Rogers was the overwhelming winner....too bad we're stuck with O'Canada lol.
Are you sure you haven't done Awakening by them on your old channel? If not my, mistake. Their live session of Awakening is highly reacted to for a reason.
Go check it out.
Unleash the archers are awesome! I really recommend “Call Me Immortal” or “Apex”, they are phenomenal!
I think the term wild and savage refers more to the far north, very little life, very little food up there, your traveling for days mostly through ice and such hehe with ocasional polar bears.
Time for another pentatonix don't you think? Greetings from South Africa
This is one of my fav's. I've been fascinated with the Franklin Expedition since I was a kid!!! I can't believe you covered this!!! Made my day!!! Great reaction Sir!!! Thank you!! Stan Rogers wrote and performed the original, I highly recommend it.
Dude. Check out the whole "Abyss" album. U wont be disappointed.
The singer of the group chose rock instead of singing opera and we won
Here's Brittney doing some karaoke: ua-cam.com/video/280DRqoGyLw/v-deo.html&pp=ygUWYnJpdHRuZXkgc2xheXMga2FyYW9rZQ%3D%3D, making everyone else who wanted to sing feel like they should've stayed home (but I guess if you're drunk it won't matter🤷♂)😄.
Maybe good in a concert.😀
Northwest Passage was also an alternate title for the show Twin Peaks. Twin Peaks is better than Breaking Bad and Game of Thrones. BTW, don’t watch the movie or the international pilot first if you ever do watch it.
