Floor Jansen has been "having fun" ever since she was in her first band, After Forever, making covers of some songs from the international repertoire (Bad Romance / Lady Gaga, Alone / Heart, Who Want To Live Forever / Queen) but in the TV show Beste Zamgers 2019 (in which each of the 7 singers sing covers from the others' repertoire, or songs with personal meaning for them) Floor has reached a new level. She was not well known until then in her own country, where metal is considered underground music, although she had a successful international career of more than 2 decades. After this televised show, Floor's popularity exploded in her country, so she was able to support a chain of sold-out solo concerts at the beginning of 2020. Then followed the lockdown period, without the possibility of performing in public, and Floor did then for the fans a set of 9 covers from her home studio that she published on her YT channel. In this context, the idea of a solo career was refined, and Floor decided that her new songs would not be rock or metal. Floor explains all this at length in her April 2022 interview for Chaoszine ua-cam.com/video/iCeci20Xt9c/v-deo.html

I enjoyed your take on this song. She is such a metal Valkyrie Goddess on the Nightwish stage. Floor is such a sweet person off stage from what I can tell from the outside wife, mother, professional musician, singer/vocalist, performer, and entrepreneur business person. You may or may not knit she has two tattoos one under each ear: a Wolf and a Domesticated Dog. Floor enjoys her family but she very serious about her professional work. By Floor's own admission she is a Metal-head. Metal is her life long favorite type of music but she does like to challenge herself with new things. If you’re liking this, then you might want to take a look at her rendition of Lady Gaga’s “Shallow” (from Beste Zangers show) or Heart’s “Alone”.. She gives both songs a new dimension (especially Shallow), and in both songs she’s also accompanied by minimal music which let’s you really enjoy and appreciate her voice..
Floor can sing anything she wants and make you believe and Feel the meaning of the song. In an interview she even sang part of a Dutch phone book beautifully. You need to hear her singing on Beste Zangers or Sing Meinen Song, her version of Phantom of the Opera with Henk Poorte is simply stunning
She fits in in Nightwish like any member of the band. In that she has her own creativity. But the music comes first! She explores herself in her own music. And there is a strong connection to her own country and her family. The Pink Pop festival in the Netherlands was especialy important to her. She had her own performance separate to that with Nightwish. In that order she was more the dog and later on the wolf. Speaking of fitting in!
Floor began her metal career when she was 16-17 years old, as the lead singer for After Forever. Nightwish fired their 2nd lead singer, Annette Olsen, in 2012, and they asked Floor to join them as a stand-in to finish out their road tour. The band members immediately clicked with her personality and more metal style and the rest is history. Oddly enough, Floor was also good friends with Tarja, the first Nightwish lead singer (also fired).. She has a young daughter with husband, Hannes, who is the drummer for Sabaton. A simple pleasure - In a UA-cam session with Tarja, the singers expressed the belief that after reaching the 40 year old gold post, they both felt they had earned the right to ditch their high heels. Floor agreed to participate in a Dutch TV show called Beste Zangers (Best Singers) in 2019 when she found out that her Phantom of the Opera idol, Henk Poorte, was also going to participate. Through her signing experiences on Beste Zangers, a show where the participants sing tribute songs in honor of each other, Floor discovered that she likes to experiment with other music genres, similar in vein to how actors like to hone their skills by taking on diverse roles.
Highly recommend you watch her video of doing a cover of Alone. It is based of the Heart version of the song. I also reccomend he doing Shallow at Beste Zangers
You should listen to Floor sing the Phantom of the Opera with Henk Poort. He has performed extensively with phantom and I saw that during an interview he said that he specifically changed up some of his singing style with Phantom in order to match with Floor. For him to do that I think speaks volumes on his acknowledgment of Floor and her style and ability.
Wow, that one went by super fast! Full disclosure: played the final part of your analysis at 0.75 speed, so that I could enjoy your enthusiasm just a bit longer, haha. So ty Rosalie, for another great reaction. Cheers from Amsterdam! 🤘
Floor writes great songs that connect as she is an empath. I believe she uses herself as the backing vocals for this song. Thank you for another great reaction.
Thank you very much for your very good analysing but also passionately reactions. Floor Jansen had another project on her own called Northward, it's a rock-projekt. Maybe you like to check out "while love died" (it's awsome!). This is another song about a love-relationship, that got broken in a bitter way. Maybe "me without you" deals with the same story of her life.
As much as I admire Floor's talent and skill as a singer, and I do, I don't much care for her recent compositions. They're not bad, they're just sort of ordinary. I wouldn't put them on my personal playlist. Please keep in mind, folks, that I'm not saying Floor is an ordinary singer. I don't believe that for a minute. I'm just saying these ordinary songs are not the best vehicle for her extraordinary voice.
Same here. I love Floor but these solo songs just isn't for me 🤷🏼♀️ Same with Marko's and Anette's solo stuff. But that's ok, I don't have to love everything they put out.
agreed. oddly, i really enjoyed her covers on zangers and most of those songs were 'ordinary songs' as well but it was the little tweaks in her delivery which gave them such great emotional depth. i don't think its the music. so far her solo work seems like an expression of her technical proficiency. this might be subconscious: and is over embellishing vocally due to the 'simplistic' song structures. i was in tears when the first note came out of her mouth on the German version of the show. i have yet to be overwhelmed with any of her singles. my thesis could be completely wrong, but something is missing.
Thx for this meaningfull and in-depth Recap, learned some Things from This:) What really makes me sad, just thinking, you would probably never listened to Her, when there werent some Recons from Nightwish. She deserves really some Rotation on Radio, compared to what scream to me, when i drive nowadays in the car with mainstream Station turned on. But would never happen, no big Producer and Distributor in Charge, so she will stay Niche , if no Coincedence comes along. Stay Healthy NWA Bavaria North
Floor is the greatest vocalist I have ever heard and I love Ian Gillan (Deep Purple) Ozzy (Black Sabbath) and Bruce Dickinson (Iron Maiden)/ Floor is a different level. Emotion
That is a great analysis! It certainly can be interpreted like that! She did say not to worry because she didn’t had any issues with her husband 😂. But she didn’t mentioned anything else about the meaning of the song. Because art is so personal, for the artists and for the audience, I think we can interpret it like that! ❤
Her husband shot this video in their home studio. She is just a Soprano. She has the ability or control to sing in a wide range of highs and lows. From growls to opera. Practice makes perfect and she is the living example. Enjoyed your reaction. Thanks! I think you reading too much into the lyrics. This is a break up song pure and simple.
Floor is a Highly Sensitive Person or HSP. She's sort of an Empath. Her husband Hannes filmed this video. He's the drummer of the band Sabaton. Sabaton always does songs about War and War Heroes.I think you checkout her solo concerts. She's been a professional singer since she was 16.She had a bad breakup with a fellow bandmate with her band After Forever. I Love Floor and she's beautiful inside and out
Floor wrote another breakup song called "While Love Died" back in 2018 with Jorn Viggo Lofstad of Pagan's Mind for their Northward project. More straightforward rock, and more rage than sadness. Well worth a look: ua-cam.com/video/bAiPeSsqD-4/v-deo.html Johannes Oerding reinterpreted the song for her appearance on Sing Meinen Song, and it's surprisingly touching: ua-cam.com/video/jXEKOZO5_mc/v-deo.html
Another great reaction today from you! Great job and this is one song of hers I haven't heard yet too. I hope you manage to hear her sing "phantom of the opera" (Both versions) sometime close to Halloween too, it's ridiculously good. 👍😁👍
Excellent reaction from you 👍 And in my opinion, you are spot on in your analysis. Floor are doing this exploration of the pop world, although she is a metal head for life (her own words). Floor has participated in 2 TV-series (Beste Zangers / Dutch and Sing meinen song/ German) - not competitions, but singers from different genres sharing themselves and honoring each other by singing each others favorites. Phenomenal shows - and it brought Floor a prize for building bridges between the genres in the show 'Beste Zangers'. In that show she performs the greatest version of Lady Gaga's 'Shallow' - ever recorded!! One of Floor's strongest skills are het ability to express emotions and passion - she can literally make people cry their hearts out, when she goes full emotional mode - she did that on live TV a couple of times in 'Beste Zangers'. She is that powerful and a truly unique storyteller /artist. You have so much coming your way 😉
Great reaction. I think you gonne love her performances in the Dutch tv show Beste Zangers. At that time almost nobody in The Netherlands knew her or knew the band Nightwish. Only the metal fans. The idea of that show is , that every week one of the singers is in the spotlight and the other singers sing something for him or her. This can be something from them or something else for them. Its not a competition and its all about the love and respect for the art of music. All the other singers where well known Dutch artist and didnt know Floor. Floor did songs in 4 languages and all in different styles. If you like what you seen from her so far ,you gonne love her in that show. You dont want to miss there faces when they are confronted with her voice and her pressence !!!! If you do check some songs out, there are versions with intro talks,to get a better idea why she sings that song and for who. It adds to the experience. Atleast do her version of Lady Gaga's Shallow and The Phantom Of The Opera her duet with Henk Poort(the original Dutch Phantom). Beside that amazing show I like to point out 2 more awesome covers she kills. Heart's - Alone Lara Fabian's - Adagio Anyway , please more Floor or Nightwish. Thanks
"Almost nobody' is a bit of an exaggeration and somewhat dismissive of the metal scene that is very much alive in The Netherlands (who have known her for a long time). Although comparing it to the masses that either like Dutch tear jerkers or the music played on the radio (the mainsteam audience that watched BZ I guess), it is a smaller portion of the population indeed.
@@corienb How long do you think you would have to walk around , asking wether someone knew who she was back then? I know, she was already big in the scene. But doesn't the exaggeration sounds great....? Het is eigenlijk meer een, bij wijze van spreken:)
I think your interpretation is spot on. It is also I think a message to her fans who did not appreciate her going "pop" (like me). I've changed my position slightly and start to appreciate her pop songs too
I like that you did this I love Floor Jansen and she is so good and I like her powerful voice and the fact that she is singing from her heart about herself in her own way she has wanted to be a solo artist for a long time but had the fear that she couldnt do it then she got with NightWish and has been so good and has her family and she has just decided that she is going to try and do it now I watched her biography video it was very enlightning as to who she is I think it does have to do with there is a me besides in nightwish anyways she is just a great singer in any genre thanks for the ride today it was fun as always your ride or die forever EYYOOOOOOOO

@victorbradshaw, thank you very much for your super sticker today!!! :) I see you. i appreciate you. Hope you see this.
Great message. Fantastic vocals.

:) I dust did that, listened again her final speech at 0.75. She's a quick speaker :))
@@gabriel.bardac Great to hear I'm not the only one, haha. Thought I might be a slooow listener 😂 Cheers Gab!
Hope you have a great day Rosalie thank you for your reaction 😊👍
thank you very much :) same to you.
Would love to hear Floor cover "You Oughta Know ". Enjoyed it , thank you. Look forward to your next reaction. Be well.
That would be awesome!
Rosalie, hello just found your channel. I like your reactions very much! I saw you did Lara Fabian adagio. Floor has her own version of adagio!
its her first time , afther 25 years metal .
Floor writes great songs that connect as she is an empath. I believe she uses herself as the backing vocals for this song. Thank you for another great reaction.
She didn’t write this. Her friend gave it to her because it didn’t work for him.
This song and elements in the voice do remind me of Ilse de Lange also a Dutch singer (country)
Each to their own. Me I love them all.
I liked Storm a lot!
Hi Rosalie, nice reaction! Pls check her performance at Beste zangers. A Dutch show. You will love it!
Floor reminds me sometimes of Wilson Sisters from Heart (should check out her version of alone) or even elements of Stevie Nicks
Thx for this meaningfull and in-depth Recap, learned some Things from This:)
What really makes me sad, just thinking, you would probably never listened to Her, when there werent some Recons from Nightwish. She deserves really some Rotation on Radio, compared to what scream to me, when i drive nowadays in the car with mainstream Station turned on.
But would never happen, no big Producer and Distributor in Charge, so she will stay Niche , if no Coincedence comes along.
Stay Healthy

very glad you liked it :) true def. not mainstream, but that's why i love focusing on world music so much. so many treasures out there
You want powerhouse? Try Floor's Rock project called Northward - When Love Died. Otherwise great reaction, welcome to Nightwish community 😊
Well worth a look: ua-cam.com/video/bAiPeSsqD-4/v-deo.html
Johannes Oerding reinterpreted the song for her appearance on Sing Meinen Song, and it's surprisingly touching: ua-cam.com/video/jXEKOZO5_mc/v-deo.html
There are moments that remind me of Melissa Eldridge in here and there's also moments where I'm getting Beth Gibbons vibes, from Portishead 🙂
Great reaction! Now u need to go into the dutch band within temptation... start with their song run feat. Xibit
Another great reaction today from you! Great job and this is one song of hers I haven't heard yet too. I hope you manage to hear her sing "phantom of the opera" (Both versions) sometime close to Halloween too, it's ridiculously good.
👍😁👍
If you want to know what Floor can do with her voice check out "Floor Jansen life in Amsterdam " full concert .
Excellent reaction from you 👍
And in my opinion, you are spot on in your analysis.
Atleast do her version of Lady Gaga's Shallow
and The Phantom Of The Opera her duet with Henk Poort(the original Dutch Phantom).
Beside that amazing show I like to point out 2 more awesome covers she kills.
Heart's - Alone
Lara Fabian's - Adagio
Anyway , please more Floor or Nightwish.
I've changed my position slightly and start to appreciate her pop songs too
thank you. I def. love when people aren't afraid to enjoy the various genres.
You should check out Anett Olsons stuff after she left nightwish. So many good songs.
please react to Nightwish: yours is an empty hope. You will see another side of floor I love her growls. also Romanticide is a beautiful song.
Congratulations on 23K Rose!!!!!
Thank you!! :)
🤗🍒🤘🏻😘 also listen to her solo songs; "Fire" and "Storm"
I like that you did this I love Floor Jansen and she is so good and I like her powerful voice and the fact that she is singing from her heart about herself in her own way she has wanted to be a solo artist for a long time but had the fear that she couldnt do it then she got with NightWish and has been so good and has her family and she has just decided that she is going to try and do it now I watched her biography video it was very enlightning as to who she is I think it does have to do with there is a me besides in nightwish anyways she is just a great singer in any genre thanks for the ride today it was fun as always your ride or die forever EYYOOOOOOOO
oh neat. I'm looking forward to exploring more behind-the-scenes interviews with various artists and getting to know them personally so to speak
