    Discovered your channel last night for assembling a carnival ride and now have watched quite a few videos involving carnival ride restorations.
    All I can say is WOW! Watching you work in your shop and creating solutions reminds me of my grandfather who used to work for NASA.
    Anyway congrats on all the carnival ride restoration projects you have going on.
    Looking forward in seeing the completion of the rocket ride and that other ride with the cars and boats you had on that trailer with rotted wood sidings.
    Thank you for sharing this with the world.

    If I lived a bit closer I would reach out and offer my garage for metal work. But the transport cost alone would make that impossible.
    I hope to see this ride back into full glory not long down the road. You are truly doing amazing work rescuing these. They dont make rides like this anymore and as you are finding out with these finds most are either in the condition you have here or they are too far gone or even (whispers) rotten in a dirt and grass lump in some field somewhere.

    In 1951, we lived in Steger, Illinois, and I remember the Johnnie Doolan carnival would travel around to various towns in the summer. Some of my buddies and I would get $5 for each ride we helped set up. The ferris wheel was the one I helped rig most often. Manufactured by the Eli Bridge Company of Danville, Illinois. Good way to pick up some extra pocket money while I was still in high school.

  • @rebuilditdad5787
    @rebuilditdad5787 Рік тому +1

    Will Pete I think you've all done yourself. Soon you'll have your own little portable kiddy carnival. Myself I started building one from scratch because I couldn't find one and then my friendly welder decided he was going to take a break and didn't weld up my buckets. But it don't look like it'll take much time Just a little bit of effort to get that thing sandblasted and cleaned up enjoy it and keep them coming If I didn't live so far away I donate some of my things to you we'll show you a whole backyard up😂.
    Oh you when you're showing the place where the jacks under the stabilizing arms why couldn't use the jacks from some staging and you know when you need to take them off you take them off and you know they're a lot heavier duty and then the trailer jacks. Just one of my many ideas.
    All right let's get that first one done so we can get started on the second one

    Great grab here, Pete! I'm really looking forward to this. Do you have ANY manuals at all for this thing? Or are you going to "wing it" when it comes to reassembly/restoration? Thanks for keeping us entertained!

    • @PeteRondeau
      @PeteRondeau  Рік тому +3

      We have the setup manual as well as the parts manuals and a few service/inspection bulletins. However, most of the important information in those manuals was about the drive system which no longer exists. The basic wheel itself you can look at and pretty much see how it all works and goes together.

      We will do the rocket for sure. We've already started some little projects with the combo, so work will continue on that- But I can imagine some days when we get down to sanding all those fiberglass car bodies where we will need a break and want something else to tinker with. That is where the wheel will start.

    Enjoy the work on all. Are you going to keep the ferris wheel a trailer? Perhaps rebuild on an H beam pallet ? A trailer could come later if you want mobilization. I can see a shortened scrap 18 wheeler tractor frame and front axle becoming that platform, a bit of overkill (or a large truck for those long C-chanels w/2 front axles).

    • @PeteRondeau
      @PeteRondeau  Рік тому +3

      To be perfectly honest, the only thing that makes this project economically viable is this UA-cam channel. I love working on this sort of stuff and love to see it preserved, but, at the end of the day the cost to restore this versus the value is probably going to be a loss or at best a break-even proposition. However, the small amount of income this channel generates helps to offset that (And the hope that the channel will continue to grow and the income will grow and can help fund even larger projects)

      @PeteRondeau  Рік тому

      Yeah, I think this makes the most sense. As someone pointed it, If I don't get to the combo first, the kids will get too big to ride it. The Ferris wheel has a larger size range so it can wait a bit.
