Your videos are the highlight of my week. Cancer treatment sucks, but you guys give me an escape. I sail with you for 25 or so minutes, once a week. God bless you all.
So sorry to hear you're facing some big battles in your life right now, but we are so honored and stoked that we can provide you with some Vitamin Sea and a bit of an escape. Sending lots of love and hugs your way ❤
In Kevin Costners post-apocalyptic world Kazza would be "supreme commander of the seas". The calm. The Compusure. The Assetiveness. The Motherhood. The Swedish Princess of the Seas. Watching you and your family these years has been pure joy. Your sea-highness: tell the grease-monkey we have some respect for him too.
11:45 and beyond. Kaza. What an incredible partner! All female, competent at sailing, wifeing (Yes, it's not a real word. Deal with it.), mother, co-captain, purser, co-cook and a no nonsense (OK, some happy frivolity) babe on a boat, woman. Excellent choice Brian. Then there is Brian, captain, owner, sailor, ENGINEER!!!, handyman, co-cook, father and all around goofy guy. When one is in the middle of an endless sea of boredom and potential crew member annoyance, these are the kind of adult, grounded people one wants on board.
While vacationing in Sint Maarten I strolled up to a guy wearing a shirt I thought I recognized. And I did! SV Delos was emblazoned on the front! JR from Phoenix and I chatted briefly about how much we enjoy your weekly videos! You’re bringing people together, all over the world!
I was born in Zimbabwe and LOLed at seeing your Zim money! Enjoying your channel very much and am a new subscriber. My ancestor was Admiraal Michiel de Ruyter, who burnt the English fleet at Chatham in 1667.
The Delos editing and composition style has been really consistent over the years while getting better and better. I think the thing that's always set you apart is that there's a real cohesion and dare I say it, seriousness-of-art to the content and the composition of the content. The ending bit with everyone contributing data about the trip so far is a case in point. Anyone can add an afterthought, but few would choreograph each crew member chipping in like that. It is one of the many small things, done playfully, that elevates the whole thing. IMO.
Sierras hair is getting longer ! Im glad she has discovered the Tea Party & grateful she has a number of people to have them with. They are endless! Karin you look just beautiful as always.
You know, on every boat one which I've crewed or owned, everyone gets a nickname. Looks like Conner's is 'squid bait'! Funniest part of this episode, for sure. Good sailing video too, what with the sail changes, using the poles, dousing the asyms with the socks (love my asym in a sock), figuring out VMG and making course changes to increase it, etc. Plus, who can forgot Brian and Conner taking a shower together! That'll keep me up at night! Thnx Delos for another fun episode!
When we visited the coast we would play a game with the sunset... Each player would place a time on when the sun has fallen over the horizon. Drinking was involved so you come up with your own rewards or penalties. May a chore list... Worst guess has the worst chore, or drinks the most, take a naked shower :-) etc...
Dead Calm was one of my favourite movies for the longest time! I was maybe 10 - 12 when I first saw it. That was my introduction to Nicole Kidman as an actress.
Favorite sailing movies #1Master and Commander, 2. Open Water Adrift 3 All is Lost. Then Pirates of the Caribbean. Keep living the dream guys and go Delos!!!
I enjoy watching your videos. At 77 yo I won't be following you in a boat, but the chronicles you share are the next best thing. The sailing community is definitely the place where men are men and women are women. It's not for the meek or timid... it's the place for the strong of mind and body. Your videos take me along with you wherever in the world Delos takes you! Thanks!
Over the last couple years of watching your videos, I get more and more inspired to go sailing. I plan to do my first real sail in the next month. Thank you
I remember taking a date back in 88 or 89 to see DEAD CALM. Great movie! That plus ADRIFT, and the Redford sailing mishap movie. Great for the middle of the Pacific.
My name is Kelvin Alston..now 84 yrs old and living in Australia..I crewed twice on Stormvogel the 73’ yacht that the film Dead Calm was filmed on..my first trip on Stormvogel was in 1963 from Cape Town (South Africa across the south Atlantic to Recife (Brazil) then 200nm up the Amazon River (just for fun) then up through the West Indies and the Bahamas and finally to NY then to Newport Rhode Island for the Newport Bermuda yacht race..we took line honours 👍 My next crewing trip on Stormvogel was in 1965 from Auckland NZ to Sydney Australia for the Sydney/Hobart race..We took line honours 👍
Sensational video guys.....love the safety disciplines of notify skipper when on a solo watch changing sails. Your a great Skipper Brian with amazing crew!
As a hyperinflation collector your collection dwarfs mine despite me having notes that are much older like the German Empire, Hungary, and every time Venezuela has had it.
😂❤YOU are my normal. I immediately become calm and lose any feeling of anxiety while I soak in your 20 minutes of sailing adventure. Dead Calm is definitely a good movie, but I can't believe you haven't watched The Boat! Give it a watch and read about it. It's a pretty cool movie I think. Thank you for my normal.💖👩🦳🇨🇦
Endless joys. I felt the same after 1500 miles... love it guys. This is why sailing is so great. The memories can not be replicated anywhere else on earth I don't believe.
Some day you'l have to write a book for all of us that are too busy working to watch all your videos.....the dreamers that want to follow in your sail routes, even if it is even possible in the future...
I'm amazed you've never seen the green flash. I look for it every clear sunset when I'm on a cruise ship, and I've seen it several times, including one amazing trip where I saw it every sunset for about 4 days straight which was very rare. You definitely have to have the right atmospheric conditions to see it.
@@dimml0r Every time I've seen it it has been in the summer south of 19N (the Sun would be pretty much vertical there at the summer solstice), so an angle with the horizon isn't necessary. Being farther from the equator just would allow the sun to set slightly slower. I guess that might make it last longer and maybe that would make it easier to see, but it certainly isn't a requirement.
@@stargazer7644 well alright. buts thats makes the time very short. i am pretty sure you have been blessed with some luck. i have been sailing a lot.... never seen it
I think one factor involves being higher off the sea than just a few feet. Either that or you would have to have very calm seas capable of refracting more than scattering.
@@dimml0r Oh it certainly doesn't happen often. I've spent about 90 days total on cruise ships over the past 20 years or so, and I've seen the flash maybe on 8 occasions. 4 of those being in the same week. I've found if you record the Sun with magnification as it is setting on the water when the weather is good and the horizon is completely clear, you'll often catch a bit of green boiling right at the top edge as it starts to disappear. I've found this happens more often than not, but it isn't bright enough to see naked eye. For it to be visible, the green takes over the whole upper part of the disk and you see the green flash just as the last bit of sun disappears.
I look forward to each and every video that comes to youtube. Thank you so much for sharing your adventure that most of us dream to do. For all crazy stuff you all do on board.
