@@OlhaBatchvarov My models are all weathered and I am a big believer in practice but I can spot a commercial job a mile away there is just something in the method that makes the difference. Your work always demonstrates to me an artistic level beyond the commercial style by far. I am not familiar with Nikitin or the contests he has won so my thinking is limited to what I have seen here. It is kind of I know what I like to my personal level and not to insult someone whose talents I only have a limited knowledge of. I could watch and enjoy seeing your amazing work more than any other I have seen.

Guess using aa air brush could achieve the same affects. I do want to say that the affects that you achieved on the Pinta was very realistic at showing age. Again thanks for a great video.

I know that the paimt film when using an airbrush is quite thin, but I wonder if one could just brush these dyes and then scratch them with the sandpaper/ sanding pad. I think the result would be the same, probably minus the extra sanding because of the thicker dye layer the brush leaves compared to an airbrush...

At the moment it seems like going with a model you have a playlist for (like the Pegasus) might be the best way to bite the bullet and learn, at least then I would have your videos for guidance. Any suggestion would be greatly appreciated.
Even a beginner can build a Pegasus! My main advice to you is to choose a model that you like, then you will have enough inspiration and patience to complete it. Because wooden modeling is a slow process, almost like building a real ship...

I agree. The side planking is terrible and by a so called master modeler. I have yet to see any tree that has a trunk with no knots beyond 20 or so feet which means this model was not well planned or built. Even shallow scribed line breaks and either nails or pegs would make it more realistic. Olha - your models are much better built
@@JonitIvory As a 60 plus year modeler, stand by my opinion, which is critical of the quality of that model. Someone named him a "master" which in my eyes is that rendition is amateurish/mediocre. If your opinion of mine is critical. too bad.

These are alcohol-based dyes! They are diluted with alcohol and yes, they can be used without an airbrush, but they penetrate the wood quite deeply!
