Lovely, honest video and something a lot of my friends ask themselves too. I think it depends on the circumstances of the C-Section and how you dealt with the healing and what your wishes are for the next birth. It's such a personal experience but having an elective rather than an emergency section is definitely preferable!
Hey Katie! Great vid, so sorry not seen this before now as it's a subject close to my heart. It's all about choice... You made a personal and careful choice that was right for you. What is poignant to me is that for a long time women were pressured into a 2nd and 3rd section, just because they had one with their first - and for a while, VBACs were considered, like, revolutionary! I has a section with my first then I felt like i really really wanted a VBAC with my daughter and I did it - but GOD at times I was like WHY DID I CHOOSE THIS!!? What I hate is that women are made to feel any pressure, from anyone, that one way is the right way. Just be strong and confident that what you feel you want is the right way to go. If you are unsure, read up a bit (there is a great book on VBAC by the midwives), talk to a few mums who have done both things - and then make a decision - but you can change your mind up until the last minute so don't worry! Great video Katie! X
I've been put under no pressure to have a VBac. Luckily both the midwife and consultant have fully supported me in opting for section. I met the consultant weeks ago so had no time to worry. The meeting at the end (New Year's Day) is just to finalise the 39 wk date and book it. At least I know the decision is already out of the way. x
My daughter was breech too and they even tried to turn her which was so painful and she would only turn a little and then turned back. I totally chose another elective c-section after being pressured to try VBAC for a while. x
It's so crazy , because here in the U.S they take that choice away from us . Alot of the time if you've had one csection, you HAVE to have another.
I’m also in the US and my doctors say they do not perform any VBACs as their policy. They’re afraid of uterine ruptures here.
It is the same in private healthcare in UK and Australia... If you go private the doctors are much more pushing a c section in this case and in cases of other complications. I guess when the government is paying you need a good enough medical justification but if the patient is paying (usually through insurance ofcourse) then suddenly money is no object.
I had a emergency c section with my first after a 161/2 hour labour. He got fetal destress and I got a fever. I went on having 3 vbacs. I got offered a c section with my second child but declined. The other two I didn’t. I preferred natural hands down.
Thanks for this! I had a c section with my first and now 37 weeks preg with my second baby and I booked a elective cesarean for the 24 of August, I am not sure why but my gut is just telling me this is right and God has given me such peace over the decision!
I've had one normal, natural birth and one emergency c-section. This time around, I've been supported in my choice for a vbac but have gotten the sense from the doctor that a c-section would be the more convenient choice. I'm choosing a c-section this time because my first 2 births were pretty traumatic... I want happy memories for this birth.
I had a natural delivery to my first and emergency c/section for my second due to obstructed labour and DOP position. If I have another one in future I would go an elective c/section.
Thanks for this video...I am trying to decide what to do with baby # 2.
Try natural. Do u want to be cutting into uterus multiple times? I woulnt. Have it naturally until u can't.
The risks associated with a VBAC are great. It’s not worth uterine rupture, babys death or uncontrollable hemorrhage to have a vaginal. It’s like playing Russian Roulette, it’s just not worth the risk, at least not for me.
Yeah..that's the problem with having a C in 1st place. Totally under stand emergency C , but not elective. It seems to be a trend.
i am having the complete opposite situation they are bullying me to have a c section
It is definitely being pushed, yes. Don't get bullied. Both is normal and natural. It takes time in labour too. Remember that a baby in the wrong position can and should be manoevered by doc into the right position. IT IS THEIR JOB. Thyre pushing c sections because hospitals make money for them. And..for other babies the wound from a C will be of concern if u want a natural.birth. basically, after a c, u will need to have more c for safety. My advice is relax and don't get bullied.
I have never seen a woman look so British in her life
I had an elective c-section after having to have an emergency c-section with my first. Even though I wished that I could of had a successful vbac I didn't see it being a reality. My second child's birth experience was so much better than the first and felt relieved once I had a date planned. An added benefit was that we could plan childcare for my eldest which made the whole experience for him much calmer too xx
