Yes keep digging. I have the same thing happening to me when you open the hole and get a 29-30 vdi and turns out to be a copper penny. A gold ring will never ring up a 23 on the Vanquish, it will live in the lower numbers. I hear you about big fields and your the only one detecting them, I have the same here where I live.
I will keep that in mind with the gold ring vdi. I haven't found a real gold ring yet.
