Maxillary first molar
there are two maxillary first molar one !st quadrant and other on 2nd quadrant
it is the largest tooth present in the maxillary arch
eruption - 6 years of age
enamel completed - 3 to 4 years
root completed - 9 to 10 years of age
palatal side is larger then buccal side
there are 4 cups :MB,DB,MP/ML & DP/DL
mesio palatal cusp is the largest cusp
It has three roots [mesiobuccal (MB), distobuccal (DB), and palatal (P)]
Palatal root is the largest and longest root in maxillary arch
Distobuccal root is the smallest of the three roots
there are four canals: MB1,MB2,DB,P
four canals in maxillary first molar ranges from 50.4% to 95%, the fifth canal is 2.25%, and few authors have reported cases with six and seven canals too. With this varying number of canals and canal configurations, endodontic treatment of the maxillary first molars is always a challenge.
occlusion aspect Rhomboid shape
palatal root is the longest and has the largest diameter; in most cases, it contains one round canal from the orifice of the pulp chamber to the apex.
The distobuccal root is conical and has one canal in most cases.
The mesiobuccal root contains two canals (MB1, MB2)
MB2 orifice is located mesially or in the pulpal groove between the main mesiobuccal canal and palatal canal, 3.5 mm palatally and 2 mm mesially from the main mesiobuccal canal
pulp chamber is triangular shape
