  • Performed at The Persian Student's Association at the University of Michigan's 24th Annual Nowruz (Persian New Year) Show "Sarvenaz"
The fashion show features traditional clothing styles found in various provinces of Iran. In detail, the peices showcased tonight will contextualize patterns, colors, motifs, and other design features present in Gilan, Mazandaran, East and West Azerbaijan, Kurdistan, Lorestan, Kohgiluyeh and Boyer-Ahmad, Fars, Hormozgan, and Sistan and Baluchestan. Each province contains distinctive fashion elements that are reflective of the unique cultural roots and material living conditions within these provinces (e.g. pastoral, agricultural, nomadic, artisan, and coastal lifestyles). However, many characteristics of Iranian traditional clothing can also be observed across multiple provinces. Collectively this speaks to the simultaneous diversity and cultural exchange of Iran’s ethnolinguistic groups.
