    Hi professor Amy! This is Maggie Xu~ It is a really romantic and interesting video and I love it! Thank you for bringing me to the weeding! I also learned a lot of useful vocabularies and collocations which I never known before~ The "chair dance" was really cool! And in my country, China, we have weeding customs that the bride and the groom must kowtow to their parents and drink a “cross-cupped wine”.

    The party is very similar to a Russian wedding party, except that Russians drink too much, and never miss a chance to fight. I loved the gift part of the wedding, where guests just go to a website and buy the only staff that is needed. In Russia we either buy anything or just give cash. Parents usually give a lot of cash for a mortgage down payment, or a car. Even though I saw a lot of similarities, american weddings look more traditional. Russian weddings are a chaos...

    Hi Amy~ The wedding in LA is gorgeous!
    What is the typical tradition for guests picking their sides in American weddings?
    The chair dance really blows my mind, never seen it before, and it looks so fun!

    • @YourFavoriteEnglishTeacher
      @YourFavoriteEnglishTeacher  4 місяці тому

      Hi! 👋🏼 The tradition is that if you are friends/family with the bride, you sit on the bride’s side (usually the left), and if you are friends/family with the groom, then you’ll sit on the right side!
      However, like I mention, people don’t always do this nowadays, especially since oftentimes you might be friends with both equally!

      Hi Amelia! I’m so glad you liked this one ☺️ It was such a fun wedding! And to answer your question, traditionally, if you are friends/family of the bride, you will sit on left side and if you are friends/family of the groom, you will sit on the right side. But nowadays, most couples who are getting married don’t tell people where to sit, hence these types of signs saying that you can sit wherever you want!
      However, at the reception/dinner part, you are usually assigned a seat by the bride/groom, and they do this so that couples, friends, and people who know each other get to sit together. The task of creating a seating chart for guests is actually joked about as being one of the more stressful parts of planning a wedding 😅💕
      I’m really happy to meet you over UA-cam and enjoy sharing my culture with you! Do you want to know something funny? I am actually attending a wedding in Taipei in December! Maybe you can tell me a little bit about Taiwanese weddings 🥰

      @@YourFavoriteEnglishTeacher Hi Amy, I'm glad to meet you too.🥰 I'm grateful for your detailed reply! And love to share about Taiwanese weddings with you☺
      Honestly, nowadays, most weddings in Taiwan are similar to American weddings. However, there are still a few differences, like most attendees at Taiwanese weddings will bring red envelopes with cash in it rather than gifts. The first thing we do when attending a wedding is sign on the guestbook and give the receptionists red envelopes at the registry. And then, commonly, you'll be assigned to a table and have a seat. I'm sure that planning a seating chart is a stressful part in Taiwan as well 🤣 Besides, we also have bouquet toss during the weddings.
      Based on my experience of attending a wedding of my cousin at Grand Mayfull Hotel Taipei, there is an open bar for guests before the reception and people don't need to have their seats immediately. So, every wedding in Taiwan may be a little different in its arrangement. Maybe you could also share your experience after you attending the December wedding in Taiwan!😆

      Hi Amelia! Thank you so much for sharing about Taiwanese weddings with me. I will have to find a red envelop! 😆😉 or maybe we can get them an American wedding card since it will be more unique!
