Those bass lines are just as funky as the clothes they wore then, Haha, it's a pleasure watching you play them, knowing that you are feeling the groove in them. Of that selection, I think "Stop, the love you save might be your own" is my favorite.
“Darling Dear” is written and played in such a way, weaving along with Michael’s voice, that it brings tears to one’s eyes. I still get goosebumps almost 30 years since I first learnt that line.
My first date was when I was in the sixth grade to see the Jackson 5 at The Palace in Cleveland. (My dad dropped us off). Michael was about 17. We danced at the front of the stage and obviously this was a highlight of my life. I’ve loved The Jackson 5 my whole life. (And I’m 58 now). Their soul is beyond. Thanks Julia for the epic basslines!
The Jacksons, Jackson 5 and Michael Jackson has too many amazing, marvellous, grateful and unbelievable bass lines, how it possible to choose only five???
I've always thought "I Want You Back" is the greatest bass line of all time, period- Louis Shelton's guitar work on that one is equally immaculate. A big favorite bass line of mine, though- on a record credited to MJ only- is "I Wanna Be Where You Are". There are some great covers of that one here on YT, both faithfull and re-imagined. Love your work, Julia!
Love how smooth and precise your attack and feel comes across. I started practicing bass around 1978 when I was around 15 years old, in the depths of the funky stuff, disco, rock and roll and fusion. The way you play is a natural feel, the way it should be. Inspired!
Darling Dear i just love James Jamerson’s busy bass lines always so melodic. And just think about he used one finger on his right hand. His finger was called (the hook). Another favorite is “Can You Remember”!! Oh one more favorite “ I Wanna Be Where You Are”
Always too long waiting for your groove, your touch, your moves...😁 One easy bassline makes me move from dawn to sunset...Shake your body 🕺🏻 Thanks Julia for these pieces of joy.
All these bass lines are fantastic. But Darling Dear with Jamerson is pure bliss. I understand even better why he is often regarded as the greatest. There is something extra with his lines. - Also you really did it justice, Julia. Brilliantly played.
Didn''t know "Dancing Machine" too, thanks for showing us. It should be worth mentioning that Wilton Felder was also a very important part of "The Crusaders" (Next best 5 vid?😉) My fave here is once again Mister James Jamerson, his abilitity to play around the groove and chords is unsurpassed. Thanks for my weekend dose and have a nice one yourself!
I’m 8 days late, but when you mentioned the fine work that can be done using scale notes, my mind immediately went to “ABC” and “Mama’s Pearl.” If you ever do (another?) video on great songs using scale notes, I hope you include those two.
Wow! Loved Your list! Jameson on Darling Dear is just plain genius. He danced over the fretboard! The song ABC should be added. The bass comes in dangerously funky after the opening and after the bridge. Also, Naughty By Nature used it on OPP!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I have never enjoyed Blame it on the Boogie as much as I have just enjoyed it...taking a cheesy choon and making it groove...uber funky, well done Julia ❤❤
Super Knaller, wie immer. Great! I love your play! I want to resume, that William Salter was the co-composer beside Ralph MacDonald of "Just the two of us" (Grammy `82) and "Where is the Love" (Grammy '72). For the best of my knowledge he was also bass player of Miriam Makeba. Good to know that he, Jamerson and Wilton Felder were the bass players of this pieces. Thanks for that. Mini
Darlin Dear is pretty great, but all of them were. You do play the first 2 songs in positions that I have not played them in. They are all fun. Great job.
I knew Wilton Felder was the saxophonist with The Crusaders, but didn’t know about his bass work (also with Marvin Gaye) - Thanks for the heads up Julia 👏👏
Great job on this ... and all the other episodes. Have you ever thought about doing an episode on Nick Campbell? He's a bass player I just discovered, who's done a lot of work with Pomplamoose. I'd love to hear you analyze and copy some of his lines.
I’ve always loved your bass playing. One question. What is the significance of the pineapple? I see pineapples many places and I can’t find anything on the web. Thanks
Hello Julia: thanks again for your always very interesting videos. The bass line that I liked the most is the one from Blame it on by boogie and the technique you use to play the octaves with the fingers of your hand seems very difficult to me.
I really love MJ but I don't really listen to The Jacksons, but the bassline that is stuck in my head is Shake your body, probably a synth line but still really good
I've been waiting for a new video by Julia. Love it! Thanks, Julia. You are funky beautiful. Since you really like dancing, what do you think about a bassist who could play and tap together. I have obsessed about that idea for decades (bass or guitar). I don't have the talent for either, but I'd love to see it happen. I think Gregory Hines did something like that many years ago.
You rock Julia, thank you for these wonderful top 5 baseline videos....Waiting for your top 5 Aretha Franklin song baselines....unless I missed that one...lol.
I don’t know about anyone else, but for me the most difficult part of I WANT YOU BACK is the middle section of 4 fast repeating triads. Took me awhile, but fun song to play.
Its a beautiful day when Julia drops a video.

fabuleuse artiste , vous êtes tout la haut avec les génies de la musique vous êtes la papesse de la basse. Bravo vive les artistes comme vous
No ABC? Oh well. Always a great day when a funky vid from you drops.
Yes more bass videos
"Darling Dear" the last song is so wonderful.
My first date was when I was in the sixth grade to see the Jackson 5 at The Palace in Cleveland. (My dad dropped us off). Michael was about 17. Blame it on the boogie 🤘🏽
The Jacksons, Jackson 5 and Michael Jackson has too many amazing, marvellous, grateful and unbelievable bass lines, how it possible to choose only five???
I could watch you play Jamerson lines all day. Bass face :D
Darling dear... Iconic groove... Thank you Julia. Cheers from Paris, France
Loved them all, Julia! Have a great weekend. 😍🥰
🔥 My favorite is definitely dancing dancing dancing..... she's a dancing machine.
Blame it on the Boogie is so sick, it has three totally different feels and they're all so perfect.
Julia, you're the sunshine of my week-end ! Thanks so much for these bass lines. Tchuss ! François
"I want you back" to me has the greatest bass playing perhaps of all time. My favorite!
Pragtig. Definitely "I want you back"!!!
Funky Friday, great stuff, thanks 😃
Bam didi bam! Dancing Machine gets my vote!
Beautiful playing, so in the pocket and swinging like crazy!.
The opening to I Want You Back is just so good. It's one of those openings where you have to start it over a few times to get enough. :)
I'm such a "fan-boy" of yours. Love everything you play and am so jealous of any drummer who gets the opportunity to play with you. 🤩

It's great to hear the bass "out front" of the songs this way and of course Julia is awesome!!
All of your videos are great, but I enjoyed this one so much
Sehr schön, sehr sehr schön 😂👏👏👏👏👏🥳👍
super nice :) i love ABC line it is so simple but groovy a little bit dub like line :)
Ciao Julia, sempre in attività. Molte grazie, ❤
Always too long waiting for your groove, your touch, your moves...😁
One easy bassline makes me move from dawn to sunset...Shake your body 🕺🏻
Thanks Julia for these pieces of joy.
Thanks Julia, I always learn something.
Awesome video Julia Love it!

Wonderful as usual. Have you ever looked at the work of George Porter with the Meters?
Dancing machine is one of my all time favorites of the Jackson 5 tracks(that whole ‘Get It Together’ album is a masterpiece).
Favorite? The last one of course: 'Darling Dear' - mr James Jamerson on bass! 😀 Dang!
Beautiful playing Julia. This is awesome. Whoever is doing the camera angles and editing for this, give them a pay rise!
Great Video 🎶🎶
Julia in der Frühe bringt gute Laune für den ganzen Tag!
I was anxious till Darling Dear was played (my favorite bass line. James Jamerson is one of my favorite bassists)
Fabulous, Julia! Thank you.

Darling dear is my favorite bassline 😍
I didn't know Wlton Felder played bass in the beginning! Nice bass cover as usual Julia 🎸♥️♥️ I didn't know you're not familiar with Dancing Machine 😮
Thanks for share Julia, there are so so good vibes in these songs…
That 'Darling Dear' bassline man...
Wow! Loved Your list! Jameson on Darling Dear is just plain genius. He danced over the fretboard!

I play blame it on a boogie in my band and I like I want you back. Julia’s selection is great. The last song reminds me on Marvin gaye
I LOVE your top fives! It triggers hours of inspired practice. Thank you, thank you, thank you.
Thanks Julia, great stuff !
I wish I could jam like her rock on!
My life would getting better if Julia drops a new video every day 🎉

Love your presentation and playing. I really enjoy the bassline to ABC as well.
Wilton Felder is such an underdog
You make playing Bass look easy , great stuff .
Pirfectissimo!
Lange her, dass ich ein Video von dir vorgeschlagen bekommen hab! Cooles Video! Hast du abgenommen? Siehst super aus!
Excellent
Well done!!! You've covered all of my favorites.
Super Knaller, wie immer. Great! I love your play!

Great Video ❤️
My mother booked the Jackson's in the late 60s.
Blame it on the boogie bass is 🔥 👍
Darling Dear!!!!
I had to post this two times Julia 😂😂
I like the bass line of "can you feel it" and "torture" too. If you can make a part two, it would be interesting to ear. Thank you very much!
Ahy... Julia, Julia, Julia...me haces llorar con esta gran banda y al Gran MJ, (RIP). Eres genial, la paz que transmites... y bueno.. Let's play!!!!
My favorite would be This Place Hotel(heartbreak hotel) by The Jackson's bass played by Nathan Watts
Ahhhh, good songs.....
Amazing. Thanks

Up on the house top!
Lovely video as usual 😊 I would love to see you tackle some bass lines from Diana Ross' solo career.
I really love MJ but I don't really listen to The Jacksons, but the bassline that is stuck in my head is Shake your body, probably a synth line but still really good
Ah! Friday and Julia with magic bass playing! Love it, bass goddess! :-) Have a nice weekend everyone.

I Want You Back.
First ! I like this vidéo !
Super smooth Julia! I was doing the “robot “ as you played Dancing Machine.
What do you think about the bass lines of John Paul Jones?
Great as always!
Learning music is both aural and visual. Please provide the tabs/chords on screen. Thanks!
Toller Clip wie immer! .....mal eine unschuldige Frage, wie wärs eigentlich mit PDF's, die Noten und Tabs abbilden? 😍🤩 Wär der Hammer 😋😊
can you please make seperate channels for guitar and bass? thank you 🙏🙏
that would be amazing! basses are just boring 😂 👌
Sheesh, how much more low effort do you need life to be? 😒
The page is literally called Thomann's Guitars & Basses
