I actually like the shootouts in andor they feel more significant. They seem quicker, more contained and kinda chaotic compared to some other Star Wars properties.
Amen
Yeah and they also "feel"/ look like they really hit, like they have a heaviness to them
It feels more like actual gunfights, which is I think a good thing.
Amen and a women
@@adamn8156 especially when you’re doing with much more average joe type characters
I like the firefights in this show. The blasters are lifelike lethal and everyone uses semi-auto competently.
Thing is that most of the real-life militaries use semi-auto fire to save ammunition and increase precision, so this does make it feel more realistic.
NO FULL AUTO IN THE BUILDINGS.
@@TheGamingPrivate I'm not fullautoing, it's not full auto.
@@dzidkapl that’s not full auto?
@@Wolf-wc1js This is. *BRRRRRRRT* That's full auto.
I prefer that over two generic armies firing point blank at each other without taking cover. Or Stormtroopers running into the hero's blaster shots
yeah, Filoni's creations definitely don't have the best choreography
So you want something that isn't Star Wars cuz literally every single time I've seen a stormtrooper they've been as dumb as rocks or baby or baby if they have good over but they want to get out of the empire so they pretend to be dead and then just go for a little settlements
@@plantainsame2049 legends and eu
@@plantainsame2049 literally the first time ever stormtroopers are shown, they take over a rebel ship with almost zero casualties, what the fuck are you talking about?
@@holocorp6484 they also get killed by teddy bears what the f*** are you talking about
I feel the opposite though. These have been some of the most tense firefights I’ve seen in Star Wars, primarily because it’s so grounded. They’re using cover, checking angles, and generally behaving as if they’re actually fighting for their lives; because they are. There’s no time for one-liners or poetic speeches.
I agree with you. This feels a lot more "real" to me than blue and red pulses flying through the air.
I agree as well. The shoot outs convey that these are lethal weapons and not just laser tag.
Mostly because almost everyone there has zero plot armour
I'd agree, the only one I don't like is the prison break. The other ones actually felt like a shootout where the prison was back to bad guys run into a room and get shot once by heroes with aim bot
@@ryantucker5604 I appreciated it because I work in a corrections setting and it was pretty realistic IMO. Guards would have the upper hand until the inmates got control of effective weapons, and then numbers would wreck them. In real life, most guards don’t carry lethal and aren’t very well trained. And as badly outnumbered as the guards were, I’m not surprised they sheltered in place. There was essentially nothing they could do.
Nah, who the hell is saying the blaster fights in Andor are bad? They're the best I've ever seen outside of Rogue One. Plus I'll take anything over whatever the blaster fights in Kenobi were supposed to be; that was a total joke.
I feel like Tech is reaching rn, but this is SW we are talking about. Having bricks and screws in this show can trigger some fans
Think it’s that people want a cool action scene. Gun fu type of stuff not fights that felt improvised. But it is more realistic that these guys don’t feel very choreographed and are just aimlessly shooting
@@TheNorthiehe didn’t say it was bad. Just that people are underwhelmed by the fighting choreography and action
@@Dookieman1975 The characters in _Andor_ don't aimlessly shoot. In fact, it's the opposite. The characters aim before shooting. They are efficient and methodical with their shots instead of blind firing automatic fire. They take cover. They deploy suppressive/covering fire. There are stakes because no one has plot armor outside of Andor himself.
Compare that to _Kenobi_ where the Stormtroopers stand and walk into blaster bolts. Or wait for the exposed heroes to aim while shooting around them at point blank range.
Each shot has heavier weight behind it and is placed with methodical care… Sums up Andor’s production beautifully.
Logical.
Vulcans talking about a star wars show? Now I've seen everything.
The firefights in Andor are honestly more realistic than most action movies.
I think these are the best blaster fights we’ve had, because of how tense they feel
The biggest difference between Andor and the Clone Wars is that the Clone Wars was a cartoon about a war and Andor is a story about people.
@Neo's danger I feel like there were a couple of episodes that showed the realities of war pretty well, but I agree that the show as a whole glorifies war.
@Neo's danger there are plenty of instances that do that. pretty much the entire Umbara arc.
@Neo's danger
jesus fucking christ your take is horrible. its not that deep bro. clone wars is not propaganda, I'm laughing just typing it.
if clone wars made you want to join the military that's your problem. didn't make me wanna do shit.
The show is called Star Wars. Not Star story about people.
Generally you even don't use assault rifles in full auto mode most of the time. It gives Andor a more realistic touch. And it's not single fire, it's semi auto btw. With single fire you would need to cock a piston again (or whatever a blaster would have).
The only point where it bothers me a bit is with the MG42 type blaster rifle thing Sceen uses. That one should actually go brrrr. Probably was too OP in that situation so they cut it down to be semi auto.
If we’re getting semantic, you’re probably thinking of single “action”
The DLT-19 (which was based off of the MG-34 if I’m not mistaken) is definitely capable of full-auto with manageable recoil. I mean I feel Skeen didn’t use it for a certain reason. Did you notice after he “failed” to cover Taramin there were conveniently a lot less credits needing to be shared?
14 yrs USMC never went out of semi except on training range
I bielieve he did this so more of his crew would die so he has more money on his own. It was his fault the ex stiormtrooper died. with his weapon he could've safed everyone if he wanted.
The DLT19 rifle is based on a mg34 not mg42.
Yet the DLT19, in star wars isnt considered really as what we call in real life a machinegun, but a heavy blaster rifle, it is more versatile than a machinegun it can be used as a machinegun or as a long range semi auto rifle.
A subversion of the DLT19 has a scope and is fully used as a long range rifle and not machinegun, which is used by specops operatives such as Death Troopers in the movie Rogue One, Inferno Squad in Battlefront 2 EA, and so on.
In the clone war era there is also long range rifle based on a mg42 called valken 38x, when it is used with a scope by snipers it is not used as a machinegun but as a semi auto long range rifle, thus showing the versatility of the heavy blaster rifle type between the brrrrrrrrrrr and the pow.. pow.. pow..
I love the firefights in Andor. You don't have the protags running full auto hip firing everyone or casually flicking a saber around. They use covering fire, short bursts, and take cover extensively. It feels significantly more immersive as every fight with anyone no matter who they are feels tense
Something I love is that I feel like they really do have some parallels even down to the weaponry. As the story progresses and both sides start escalating their encounters they also get more heavily armed. You go from local corpo security-a small garrison-to an actual occupation with real soldiers with the plot behind it also ramping up just as you go from personal blaster pistols-pistols and a rifle per team-everyone having short rifles-to all military issue rifles with a large tripod sorta cannon. Everytime the conflict ramps up so does the amount of firepower especially the empire brings to bear.
It’s just one of the many many things the show nails which stems back to it’s purpose of showing a nascent rebellion growing and an empire moving back towards a wartime military occupation.
I feel the blaster fights, feel so real and raw, it feels so impactful, when a character gets shot it feels so heavy
I like it, it adds a little realism you wouldnt just walk around in real life with you gun on full auto you wouldnt hit anything
And you'd run out of ammo real quick
I understand how you feel about this but this is Star Wars. Energy weapons are different than slug throwing firearms. There is going to be a lot less recoil with energy weapons. You can tell this by a lot of people in Star Wars using guns without stocks even heavy pistols are very powerful and popular depending upon how available they are. Everyone in Star Wars keeps their stock folded most of the time unless they need to make long range shots. A lot of how the guns are used up to this point don’t support how people are talking about them in the comment section. I like andor And it’s gun fights. But comparing blasters to firearms misses the point of going from a gun with gunpowder to a gun without gunpowder and without an explosive force propelling a projectile. There’s just going to be less recoil
I like the blasters are actually hitting creatures and causing damage for once
I like how realistic the blaster shootouts are. You can feel the tension and stakes the whole time.
LMFAO "space AK's"
Bruh when I saw them first I was so confused😂😂😂
I love slow paced fire fights. Great scene from a Danish WW2 film of a very suspenseful fire fight using bolt actions, with limited LMG support.
Can you give the name of said movie?
@@Diamond-bd5ox April 9th I believe
@@einarsharpe7637 Thank you
Andor is the Star Wars style I have always wanted.
I'm shocked how many people are so down on andor I really liked everything about andor
From everything I’ve read anyone who’s actually watched the show are going bananas with the quality. Unfortunately you have people disappointed with Disney and the direction that they didn’t bother and you have some in the fanfare that wants to see high flying saber fights and pointless cameos. But I think as the season gets more word of mouth that will change. I HATE Disney but man is this show SOOO good.
I think it's more because they're doing what they can to protect their lives in a reasonable and understandable way.
Whereas every other action scene in Star Wars is about running into the gun fire while blasting and slashing away at everything.
Makes us feel like "Oh man, these people could die". Makes us feel like they're people. Whereas in clone wars, people ran out into the open and died and they were just extras.
Yeah, you made me remember Rise of Skywalker where nobody ever took cover. Andor is far superior
When I was a kid, my friends father got us into the military base near us to look around. One of the things we saw was a HUMVEE patrol sim. In it, they gave us M4s connected to the sim to fire at enemies in the system. They told us that all the rifles were set to semi-auto explained that it's better to fire semi-auto because it helps you conserve ammo and maintain control of the weapon. Which broke kid me's perception of things as a boy who grew up playing CoD and Halo and FPS were you spray and pray.
Andor nails it. Best of the shows on Disney.
They felt more real to me like the shots actually hurt and were way more impactful… not as cutesy as before
I love how in any other SW show, explosions are so common that you don’t even blink at them, but in Andor firefights, a single car exploding is enough to make a viewer shit themselves.
I actually like the fights more in Andor.
And it's not two armies fighting like in the clone wars, it's small groups, which means accuracy is more important.
Wow such different, for me the best scene is when they say the bad word while using blaster. Never before has that happened in space wars.. truly such inspirational moments.
They feel more weighty and real to me, for all the reasons you stated. Loved the show
Skeen’s blaster is basically a machine gun in battlefront, it was designed after a real machine gun. It’s definitely full auto.
But if they had that firepower the scene would play out differently.
When Chewbacca uses that same blaster in the Death Star detention block, it's single shot and sounds more like a heavy AT-ST blast. I think in the live-action film they're acting like that blaster just carries more punch rather than being rapid fire.
“Battlefront” I get it I played the game too, but it showed up in the movies lol The DLT-19, the blaster (which is based off of the WW2-era German MG-34), is certainly and stated to be a full-auto capable heavy repeating blaster with a decent amount of recoil. And pretty sure Skeen knows that, but I still think he fired in semi-auto when he was supposed to be providing cover for a reason. Conveniently right after there was a lot less credits needing to be shared.
@@brysonkuervers2570 Interesting idea that he under utilized the capabilities of the weapon. I like it
In the Clint Eastwood film UNFORGIVEN, Clint's character went up against 5 men in the sheriff's office to get revenge for them killing his unarmed friend (a black man). Even though the law officers outnumbered him, and we're quicker on the draw, fast draw is less accurate than aim then shoot.
The last episode has some pretty epic shooting.
Andor is a HUGE improvement on the blaster action. Much better than most of the Mando and Boba episodes. “Most” not all.
It's like the shooting scenes from Black Hawk Dawn vs the ones from Commando
This is how it SHOULD be! Especially after studying the lore for years I always felt that the weight and significance of Blaster weaponry is lost in movies or animations but preserved more in novels
I loved Andor… the imperial forces were lethal again. They weren’t the horrible shots of the later movies.
Also power and energy levels would be a concern.
You wouldn’t want a spray and pray blaster if you didn’t know how to get a charge to reload it.
I loved how the blaster fights had such weight. The combatants, for the most part, weren't soldiers. They were civilians and security/police forces. To me, it added a realistic feeling.
I've never heard anyone say that they were underwhelming. It's always how intense they are
The shoot outs are short a few and good, not John Woo amazing, but acceptable… I’m intrigued by the plot though 😊
They feel a lot more real and gritty and that’s why I love andor
Andor by far is the best Star Wars series so far. Nothing else comes close to the gritty, up close and personal impact the Empire has on individual lives. Sometimes it gets tiring of seeing jedi and lightsabers, this was a an amazing breath of fresh air to Star Wars
I think the sound design factors in here too, they sound like they carry more punch than they do even in the original trilogy films.
Yeah it’s like a pew with weight.
Yup there is much more deep bass tones to them with an echo.
Surprised people found them overwhelming. I loved that the first sequencing the show -- Cassian shooting the guards -- drove how the threat of something as simple as a blaster. We see people actually dying from these shots, not people shooting blindly at each other so the blasts just feel like colorful specks on screen. They actually felt like they could connect and kill or gravely injure someone. I don't mind that the actual gunfire didn't feel too flashy; the danger still felt palpable.
All I heard was that the blaster fire in Andor feels really impactful, not underwhelming. It's not an action-focused show but the action is meaningful and blasters feel powerful, accurate and deadly.
Some video essay I watched summed this up perfectly. He basically said that most Star Wars fight scenes go like this - a couple stormtroopers pop out, and the heroes just blast them. Just like that. “It’s the action equivalent of a jumpscare.” I like that in Andor the heroes actually have to take cover and actually seem like they’re in danger. Not to mention, most of the time there are a handful of enemy soldiers that survive the shootout
this is the first time in a while i feel like these battle are tense. the laser is lethal again, you got hit once in the upper body you die instantly and that goes for everyone, not just stormtroopers but the named characters too.
I feel like the fights are more realistic, as much as they can be for laser weapons, but in real life when opening fire on crowds a fuck ton of people are gonna get shot and shootouts happen very fast. I’m glad they took realistic elements and implemented them
I loved the fire fights in Andor. they felt more believable like these are actual people just trying to one up the other.
this reminds me of the blasters in blade runner. they are blasters, but they have a very heavy feel to them. the sound of them is brilliant, and the impact of the blast round is pretty grounded and good
In my honest opinion I think this is better because it’s from the perspective of people who want to not die .they are firing controlled burst and single fire because it allows for cleaner follow up shots and generally ammo conservation. They are fighting to live. This is more like what firefights look like.
These shootouts mean something and serve a purpose other than mere spectacle. They hit harder than anything in the prequels.
Another major factor is the sound design. Instead of being a purely high-pitched traditional "laser gun" sound, they've added a weighty mechanical/percussion sound at the beginning of each blaster effect, making it sound a little more reminiscent of the deadly gunfire we're used to in the real world
The combat scenes in Andor are 100% the best shot blaster scenes in any content, idk what they’re talking about
I liked that. It made it feel like everyone was actually trying to kill each other instead of being flashy for the sake of spectacle.
Underwhelming?? Bruh every fight scene in this show had me tense. Best TV I've seen since The Expanse.
The firefights in andor were so fucking sick. This is the best Star Wars show they’ve realized since clone wars. I hope they can copy this more in the future. In other Star Wars fights the gun fighting isn’t even realistic, not even in its own context of the star wars universe. The realism and all the new types of blasters they had was dope and added so much to the world building. It makes sense too in a Star Wars universe they would have millions of variants of guns not just a couple pistols and a basic assault rifle😂
I mean more accurate and deadly semi-auto shots vs a wall of laser suppression for a full auto fire mode makes sense especially for trained combat personnel. The clones and stormtroopers of the previous cinematic universe had helmet HUD’s linked to the blaster to be more precise in full auto situations according to source materials so it’s much less likely they would suffer from accuracy loss vs a solider without a helmet’s HUD helping them aim full auto shot placements.
It's very obvious Disney has taken alot of inspiration from modern action shooters/modern war movies, precise and deadly gunfights for both the protagonists and their opponents.
They're actually shooting in semi-auto not single-shot. I thought it was a nice touch of realism as a real world rebellion similar to the one portrayed in this show would be fought pretty much exclusively with semi-auto weapons.
Star wars finally figured out what a lot of people already knew: automatic fire is really useful only within a very narrow range of niche applications.
I feel people will latch onto anything to try and talk this show down. I’m still in awe at this show and I cannot wait for the 2nd season
I always thought it was ment to be because it's not a battlefield usually it's a security force and the conflict will be very different in that context.
I thought it was just one more way they wanted to make sure it felt different from the main land stories where Jedi are bouncing lasers about and massive armies are firing back and forth each other.
The gun fights are awesome. It's tense and stormtroopers could actually shoot.
They clearly had a military advisor on the show. The tactical language used and the lack of automatic fire are unlike any other SW property.
Rogue one as well
Andor isn't about the action, it's about the espionage.
Loved the gunfights. Adding all the hardware and anvils on chains in the foundry was an awesome idea
LOL. The Finale: "Hold my beer"
I like the choreography of the gunfights a lot - I think the main thing letting them down is the lack of sub punch in the sound effect. They’re just a bit flat and shallow sounding. Need the reverb of Rogue One gunfire.
Star Wars is WWI in space with blasters. It was the last war to see big formations of troops in battle, and WWII dogfights were already much faster - so what we're seeing are basically biplane speeds. Once you see it you can't unsee it!
For Andor, those fireteams with a single "machine gunner" only make sense for projectile weapons - as does a bunch of aspects about the way "blasters" look and are used 😅
“More methodical care”
Clone wars has miniguns, rocket's, bombs, massive armies, city size ships and space battles. Andor has a single rebel cell working covertly. Of course the battles are going to feel off pace.
Sorry, I know it's your opinion, but this show overall, the mood, the ambience, the script, the fights, the general mood, is leaps and bounds above about every live action Star Wars movie since the first one I went to see in the 70's as a hardcore fan. They made this more believable, more dynamic and this is a move in the right direction for Star Wars overall. We need more of this.
Hundred percent agree
It makes sense for battles in the clone wars to have primarily been based on full auto weapons, accuracy wasn't much of a concern against walls of battle droids, it was more so a matter of mowing down as many as possible
In Andor the blaster shots are in the foreground and focused. A lot of blaster shots in the other star wars media are just background light show.
That's because blaster fights in shows such as the clone wars and rebels where used more so as Suppressive fire and used to Cover their allies. Not to mention that the clone wars was a target rich environment.
They need to spin around more! thats the key to a good blaster fight!
Makes sense, in the clone wars the CIS operated like a horde army, who needs accuracy when you're firing into crowds.
This is the first time in star wars that a strict blaster fight has ever really felt tense. The clone wars show has some tense fights, but never really the random blaster fights. I mean it's literally a meme that storm troopers and clones couldn't hit a fucking whale with their blasters. These fights are slower, they arent full on wars, but there are stakes, people get shot, both people who die and people who survive.
It makes more sense though. Most soldiers irl are trained to use full auto only when providing covering/supressive fire or when raiding an indoor compound.
honestly i thought the blaster fights on this were MORE intense, because it mattered. Everybody that got hit, was dropped, no tanks surviving multiple hits, one shot one kill for all the unarmored folk lol.
The impact from the shots also seems pretty significant, some cats are just getting THROWN from the impact, i love it lol.
I thought the opposite! The blasters feel like something that could actually kill you. They feel horribly hot and intense. I think it's amazing.
This is what people don’t understand. Getting hit by a blaster bolt is not like getting hit by a bullet. Any body shots from the plasma will create a pernicious effect that damages the surrounding tissue. Leading to almost instant death. Not to mention hitting a moving target in our world is difficult so imagine it in theirs. Marksmanship or not.
They’re just normal people too compared to in the films. Stormtroopers are ultimately elite units (despite the jokes), Clonetroopers are trained from birth, the battle droids are all programmed to be decent with weapon, etc.
The pistol action and taking cover almost reminds me of westerns
I like the use of single fire since that's usually how soldiers fight it would have made more sense for the lmg to be full auto tho
Ironically I feel this is the first time blasters seem to really fuck anyone up. If you get shot by one once: you are done.
Remember no dark angel has every tripped in all of eternity
We were chewed up in the military for using full auto. It's a waste of ammunition. If we were doing dry exercises, which means simulating the shot (yellin shot, shot, shot every time you fire) there was always the jokster yelling full auto, which never failed to bring on a smile before the chewing started about wasting ammunition (that too tongue in cheek)
I actually like the firefights here. They look much more believable than say..the final fight in Mandalorian.
Reminds me of the firefights in the original trilogy…
Andor Takes a much more realistic and impactful approach to fire fights. They don't last forever with people shooting muskets at each other, these are people who know how to shoot a gun and there are stakes and a present risk that the MC can get hit even if we know he lives.
Let’s also factor in how many shots hit in Andor. Less wasted shots in this show, seems more realistic and a touch brutal and impactful. Also when the miss it’s not just flying past, you see the impact.
I actually really liked the gun fights in andor. They felt more... weighty to me, in a good way
The space AK’s 😂
"Try"
That's deep.
Okay but I think I can speak for the entire community as I say when you first start watching Andor it takes like a few episodes to realize this is even a Star wars TV show let alone something to get enthralled in
I would design a hyperspace based blaster that fires into hyper space so you don’t have to aim. It just travels through hyperspace, pops out at the other side where it needs to go, and blasts them into oblivion.
I personally prefer this as it’s far more realistic to take your time and make every shot count and take cover instead of just throwing a bunch of shots down without any real chance of hitting your enemy.
firefights do tend to be a little more conservative when everyone takes off their plot armor
This is actually very realistic for modern warfare. The M-16s & M-4s that our military uses don’t have a “full auto” setting, they used to have a “burst” setting that would shoot off three rounds per trigger squeeze. They’ve since moved away from the burst setting because they realized if you’re in a real firefight that will only waste your most precious resource, ammo. One shot, one kill.
Bro you are the G.O.A.T
