      Not all engine that need a timing chain are new and are on a bench.
      Do it in the vehicle and on one that has done 100,000 miles and then see if its simple.

    I like this solution better than my Peugeot 1.5 DV5 BlueHDI which uses both a belt and timing chain. Apparently the chain tensioner on the Peugeot engine is prone to failure so I wish they would have used a geared drive like on this Renault engine. The chain driven oil pump is not so nice though.

    I changed the timing chain on my 1.6 dci on Megane 2014 at 150k km because it was rattling during cold starts. However, the new chain also rattles, and at times, I even need to turn off the engine and restart it to eliminate the rattling sound. Have you encountered a similar case before? Should I consider changing the oil pump as well?

    The second one (small, low & behind) doesn't need any change also around 300.000 or sooner?

      @mrsweete9065 2 роки тому

      No, when a bolt is tightened to a degree it is stretching the bolt. Any bolt that is tightened to a degree will never be reused again. The click from the torque wrench is tightening to a specific torque, you can then use any normal ratchet with a dial attached to stretch the bolt to the degree it needs to be.

      The degree is to stretch the bolt, if you Google torque to yield bolts it will explain why its needed for certain parts on the car.

      The purpose of applying degrees of rotation is to ensure that all the bolts are brought to their yield points more accurately than a simple torque value ever can, because a prescribed rotation takes into account the fact that only about 10 to 15 percent of a torque value results in a usable clamping force

      If you have good pleace do it yourself. It's not impossible. I gives my car for chain replacing. They took 900£ but gives me the car back with massive oil leak. Of course told me that is not from them. But was. They not fit good the silicone seal on the side panel and even start the engine after just 2 hours before to dry good. I fix it after them. I should to take of everything and to release the engine from brackets. New silicone on the panel and now got no problems at all. Never again will not give my car to some idiot mechanic to tough it.

      @@jonsweet8153 Yes i did. It's not easy, but not impossible. Dont forgot that this engine is not for this car. Is there accidentlly. Nissan had only 9 months to build this model. Have to prepare tools and special gasket silicone. You will need electric torque wrench for the belt crankshaft pulley and after that to fit it back (better put back new seal) adjustable torque wrench and angle tool as well. You need probably to remove everything from the face of the car including the radiator and intercooler to have access. There got some trick to remove the water pump pulley as well ( yes you have to remove it). You will need also 2 lifting jacks. I used one hydraulic bottle and one scissors. Be careful to not drop the engine one the ground. I did it 😂 but was not fatal.
