Wow, love your channel too. I hope sometime you'll talk about Southern Mantis and suitability for tall & big men. (Or, women if they find themselves to be over 6 feet tall.)
I'd buy some DVD's or a book by Evo on this style. Something not often mentioned (if ever) is that this style seems good for the big man who might not be as quick as others in footwork. And being tall, I like how this style lends itself to claiming the 'high ground' in making moves against an opponent. So many strikes can come from higher to lower it seems.
Hmm is this the origin? Can’t really say but it’s not far fetched to say there are Chinese influences in FMA. So there are bound to be some similarities
@@EvosBasics hey brah, i bet you’re pinoy. The philippine flag was on display in your room in one of your older clips. Southern praying mantis is my favorite Southern chinese style....to me more powerful than Wing Chun. Keep up the good work!
TBH, I highly dislike those kinds of "breaks" or "locks" with the arm extended. The control mechanisms on the part of the would-be breaker is not entirely sufficient for a clean, uncontested break. Even armbars done from a dominant position on the ground can be hard to finish. It's much better, in a martial context, to use the control mechanism to initiate an wrestling style arm-drag to enter the clinch, e.g. side bodylock or bodylock from the back, go into your trips/takedowns, or pommeling for a dominant striking position to throw elbows and knees.
If it doesn't break then it hurts quite a lot. Have someone just lightly stomp on your knee and its already not a good place to be. So these types of limb destructions are not the same as ones found in grappling styles. Stand up locks are also very different from their on-the-ground counter parts. Just look up when Shinya Aoki ripped a guys elbow off from the clinch in one of his fights. But I also agree that in most cases its good for control and positioning, which is why I bring up other scenarios. Cheers!
What Evo is trying to convey...No Magic or Superhuman Internal energies....Just plain ol' leverage and physics....Also another simple explanation for the tilt...pivot..not spin.
Dope!! 👊

It’s funny you say that because my Sigung was like 5’2 and 120lbs soaking wet lol
@@EvosBasics Signature of a great style, works in all conditions. Thanks Evo!
Thank you for loading and a good Mantis move, the second application however could expose your groin to a counterattack despite the lock.
Sure thing, it’s all timing and position. Nothing is ever a 100% guarantee
Look sharp bro . Good stuff 🙏🏾

I like your teaching AND also the wheel behind you which signifies your Praying Mantis' teaching pf round manoeuvres.

Is this the true origin of gunting?

@@spartanwarrior1 haha I’m not, but my best friend is! Appreciate the kind words brother
I’ve also dabbled with FMA in the past so have vague ideas of the concepts. FMA is dope stuff
Who is your sifu?
started training as a kid under Lee Kwun, my father has also helped guide me for many years. Cheers

Thank you so much, lets keep fighting the good fight

I mean it works perfectly without magic powers, but if you have them, of course feel free to add it to the movements 😄
