    I get that some people don't want to physically punish their kids, because 1- They don't believe in hitting their kids as punishment, as they see it to be an over the top/harsh way of teaching them a lesson, and 2- They simply don't want to replicate THEIR parent's methods of discipline, because they themselves know the feeling all too well.
    It's understandable, but at the same time, simply telling your child that "it's ok" when they do something bad, or letting them off sh-t free with nothing but happiness to add to that, then they're basically learning nothing from their mistakes, except for the fact that "Oh hey, my parents didn't punish me because I did this, so that means I can do it again and get the same result." Don't give them that naïve sense of security, because they'll grow up with it, and daddy's girl, isn't going to do anything but make daddy hurl.
    If you don't want to hit them, again, understandable- The least you can do though, are things that won't physically hurt them, but will definitely teach them a lesson. Take away their devices until they learn a thing or 2, no TV time- As a matter of fact no entertainment period, and lastly Vegetables only. Some may think that those are petty punishments, but if they do, they've obviously never experienced that hell for themselves. Go to school, come STRAIGHT BACK, read a book, get some food, shower, and then go straight to bed. That's it. Yelling is also a good way to discipline your kids as well, but then that's just going to affect them later down the line in life.
    Also, before you all rush to the bamboo stick, or whatever the hell you keep in your room to beat your child, learn to sit down in a quiet room, nothing to distract you all, and have a strict conversation on what is right, and what is wrong. That's the problem with parents now'adays. They just rush to hit their children, instead of actually telling them WHY and WHAT they did was wrong.

    The rule growing up for me was if you ain't eat it right now guess what you're having for dinner and if you don't eat it for dinner guess what you're having for breakfast. We didn't believe in wasting anything. Mom worked in the kitchen whatever she made was breakfast, lunch, and dinner and no dessert if you don't finish. Never ever where we asked what do we want for dinner unless it was our birthday. Best childhood ever

    I came from an Asian tiger parent. I got beat over things most got congratulated for. I passed... well it wasn't an A. I cleaned up... I missed this and that and each time it was a slap aside my head.
    Because of that, I've never beaten my kid. She's 12 now... and while I'm not saying she's an angel, she a good kid. the non violent parenting strategy does have some validity.

      Oh absolutely. My mom whooped me and my sister early in our lives and was verbally abusive (Grandmother too, she was a female misogynist). My sister has her own child now, and while I do think he needs to be a little more disciplined (without physically getting hit) he is a good child and was a very chill baby. I think my sister is afraid to discipline him because of how our childhoods were.

      cavemen mentality is not the right way; hitting to me just proves you're not bright enough to care about human emotions/feelings and speak thru anything. reminds me of husbands slappin wives for having actually good opinions and thoughts back in the day. ridiculous. keep bein a good parent to yo chiald

    • @SonicMegaKing
      @SonicMegaKing 2 роки тому +14

      I think violence is only effective when used sparingly, when you really need to get an absolute point across about consequences. Otherwise, it can easily become abuse, like what your experienced. I'm sorry to went through that, and I'm glad you've raised a good child.
      I was only whooped once in my life, and that whooping deterred me from a lot of mischief later in life. That's why I argue it can sometimes be valid. But unfortunately, many people don't know what that limit is, discipline can become abuse, and the punishment has the wrong effect on the child.

    • @imdone-cat5200
      @imdone-cat5200 2 роки тому +4

      That's exactly the point I was trying to make in my own comment.
      "I get that some people don't want to physically punish their kids, because 1- They don't believe in hitting their kids as punishment, as they see it to be an over the top/harsh way of teaching them a lesson, and 2- They simply don't want to replicate THEIR parent's methods of discipline, because they themselves know the feeling all too well."
      You keep looking out for your children. I don't know you, but the fact that you are with your kids, staying strong with them, and being the patient mother that you seem to be, you're definitely a good mother. Take care ma'am.

    Of course, simple minded individuals will understand that one type of punishment method will not work of every single kid in the planet, as well as the fact that not everyone likes/ wants to use one particular type of punishment, that is because of the simple fact that PEOPLE ARE DIFFERENT, but anyways....

    The best episode of Supernanny was the Duan-Anh family from San Francisco. The kids had way too many activities going on for them, their father was a workaholic and their mother was left to care for the kids by herself. They were misbehaving because of being overworked and having to do homework until 11pm.
    Once Jo came, the parents worked together and the family came together and moved into their new home. They cut down on their behaviors and got much better schedules. The episode was a complete success and the parents didn't fight each other on how to do things and the father began working less. That was a great episode to watch.
    The worst episode was the two girls named Brittney and Moriah who were left to raise their younger brothers while their parents worked and never got home until late at night. Brittney actually fainted during that episode and her mother would criticize her "parenting" when she should have been doing it herself. And their father simply didn't care. It was very sad to watch.

    While the commentary was hilarious, I'm glad black parents have been moving away from spankings all the time. There are ways to discipline without violence.
    Children who get beaten can grow up thinking that violence is appropriate when someone does something you don't like, and that's a horrible lesson.

      I think this is only the case when the spankings are overused and for reasons that don’t equate to that level of punishment. I only got spankings if I continued to do something I knew I wasn’t supposed to do, and that was after a few warnings already.

Dad is mad he was spanked for doing bad when that’s the damn purpose lol instead of stopping or understanding, he discussed to carry that as a burden for no reason when older. Now his kids are running around like banshees and you don’t know what to do, about to lose your mind. SMH. All kiddos thrive in structure. Discipline is part of that structure!
