Hi Richie, I am a beginner with bass guitar. Thanks to you I have learnt basics scales, arpeggios, major scales. But what do I do now, and how do I proceed from here to understanding bass and how do I apply all this knowledge into some relevance?
Hi Nilabah. Begin using these techniques to start learning songs - Try your best to learn by ear and hear the intervals in the basslines. Also and if possible hook up with other musicians and play with them. The important thing is to remain inspired and give yourself something to work towards
Sir question. How can i know what measure should i use in curvature measurement and in terms of string height measurement is it base on myself already right? Btw i want to do a Drop D setup
I need to make some adjustments my bass' action is too high but it's set on the lowest the strings can go (or is 10 cm low enough?) I don't have very big hands and it's a lot of effort for me to get any better fretting especially on the top(lowest) string I'm only a beginner and wondering if I should have started in the first place Plucking is easy , Slapping works if I hold the strings down near the body. But fretting is a huge effort no matter how I position the instrument
I love low action, however, how can I make the strings be less tight with standard tuning?... I like my strings a bit loose, how can I improve/control this? Does it have to do with the srings gauge or bridge adjustment? thanks.
Nobody explains high action correctly. Here are the facts: High action is much harder to play -- it requires more precise fretting, while simultaneously making it harder to fret. And it gets worse the higher up the neck you go. That means that it takes significantly more fingerstrength., particularly since you must maintain tension on the string as long as it's sounding, and the tension you apply MUST be up toward the E-string, not down toward the G. And that means that when you first try it, you'll sound terrible, simply. because you don't have the muscles to do it properly. And it's not just your finger muscles -- it also puts much more strain on the muscles in your elbow and back. Just a decent tone on a high action bass takes hundreds of hours to develop. Another downside arises if you're into tapping -- it's nearly impossible on a high action instrument. But if you stick to it, the. benefits are many. For one, it cuts way down on fret buzz, so you can play with much more attack, (pull the strings harder), which (if not over-done) gives you a much more distinctive tone, at the very least because it dramatically expands your dynamic range It also brings string bending into your sound. The reason Gilmore and Hendrix sound so good when soloing is that they bend like crazy, increasing pitch by more than a step (note how they ALWAYS bend up). And while bass strings are far too tense to change pitch, the principle is the same -- even a slight bend puts a glorious tension into your notes, and makes your playing far more expressive. But if you stick to it, all of this comes naturally -- it's hard only because it takes a long time to develop the muscles. Even better, your tone never stops improving -- the longer you do it, the better you sound. It also means that you must know how to set up your instrument, particularly the intonation. That's because you don't just jack up your action and start playing. Rather, you increase it gradually, getting proficient at each level before going higher. Thus, you'll be changing your set up every few weeks, so you gotta know how to do it. It's a big commitment, but what it does to your tone is glorious. It really makes your playing stand out.
I set up my own bass and the action is low , one thing I never could figure out is why does all other bassist have a bass that sounds and feels better than my own bass.
Hi Mark - I think it's that we're so used to what we normally use and work with most of the time, that any change in sound and feel makes us more aware. I would always try and learn as to why you think it sounds and feels better and take that into account when looking for a new instrument later in your journey.

Try lighter string gauges.
Different string brands of the same thickness can differ in looseness as well
