Wrong:he's wrong in saying that effective stress is the contact stress developed between two soil grains
Contact Stress:
Contact stress refers to the stress applied to a soil particle or grains due to the weight of overlying materials or structures. It is the total stress at a point within the soil, including both the effective stress and the pore water pressure.
Effective Stress:
Effective stress, on the other hand, is the stress that actually governs the mechanical behavior of the soil. It is the difference between the total stress and the pore water pressure. Effective stress takes into account the interparticle forces and is responsible for soil deformation, shear strength, and other mechanical properties..
