The Intercooler co-founders Dan Prosser and Andrew Frankel discuss electric sports cars. Dan argues it isn't the lack of an engine, gearbox or soundtrack that will hamper the new generation of EV performance cars, but good old range anxiety.
After having fun in the Abarth 500e hot hatch but almost running it out of charge, Dan reckons sporting EVs have every chance of being fun to drive, but only if you don't expect to go very far in them.

It always amuses me when ppl talk about wltp on their EVs... even if it is a sportier one with xxx electric HPs. I always tell them the same thing: my favorite driving loop in the hills, on backroads is 180 miles.. untill there I have 35 miles on the highway towards and 35 miles back; I don't need to stop, refill, etc
if you drive an EV, any EV at that speed.. you'll get empty really fast. EVs sweetspot speed is city speed, not fast highways, not roadtrips, not fun driving. If you want fun in an EV, smoke someone in an ICE car at the lights...but, that's it.. EVs are a one pony party trick, nothing more.
Ppl with high HP EVs do not seem to complain about range... and that's how I figured out that, for them, a sporty car is one that accelerate really fast from a stand still, not one that eats a backroad at warp 5.
EVs..especially high power EVs are dragsters but, for a reason beyond my understanding, ppl keep confusing them with sports cars.

tbf, a 180 miles backroad loop + 70 miles to go there and back is not something most people would go on for a quick weekend spin with their sporty car, obviously an ICE is better suited there.

​@@speedsociety9177I also have the short one, just shy of 80 miles with very little to no highway as the starting point is just outside of my city(in yesteryears, I did that loop on my road bike(bicycle) as well)... but, it is not that interesting and with little to no elevation change.
I do also one day driving trips..., but the 250 miles takes me around 6 hours with piss and photo breaks - get up at 6...in 20 minutes max I'm in my car.. and at around one o'clock I'm back -
The biggest loop I did was ~350 miles(plus/minus).. and for that I needed refueling.. and a 30 minutes break from driving and it took me over 8 hours to complete.. with my wife starting to believe that I have a mistress of some sort somewhere out in the villages. 😬 I don't.. so, yeah.. it is just driving.

@@eugenuxsounds great! I often go for 3-5h rides of 70-120k and I need no ICE or even EV, just my road bike 😃 prefer that much more these days, the car just helps if I want to start somewhere outside the city
