Written by Leah Song of Rising Appalachia, this is a real life lullaby, for the real life parent in the final battles of sleep deprivation. One written about the moment when you have tried EVERYTHING to just get your child to GO TO SLEEP!! Part playful, part honest attempt to pull that final transition to rest…drifting away in harmonics and by the celebratory end, swooping us all away to an actual dreamscape.
As sure as the tide will rise, and the smoke will clear, Leah's voice once again, finds its way into the sacred and tender places of my soul. A fluent master of the great international, and dare I say, intergalactic language. The strings, the voice, the lyrics, this lullaby could speak to souls hundreds of years back, on a hillside, or in a castle. My bones tell me it has. And still its the medicine of Now. Disguised as a lullaby she undose spells and brings me back to center. To the ground. The warm water stirs and flows from my chest to fill my eyes. Im blessed to hear this while I watch the sunrise. This one is particularly healing for me, as the drum with voice place in your composition towards the end, gives me strength in my heart to be peaceful and beat strongly in music to walk past any adversity in our world so divided in those who want to help and those who want to harm. I know the music and path I am walking towards as do you.

This is beautiful. I've been processing the transition to motherhood still, even though my twins have just turned two. They're in big boy beds now, but we still sing before saying goodnight. The Appalachians have been in my dreams a lot lately and I wish greatly they were growing up in those wild mountains and down by the rhododendron lined creeks. Thank you for this much-needed salve for a homesickness that I can't quite otherwise explain, that brings me and my boys a little closer.
