My first island was a total disaster. I sold the fruit from "mom". Spoiled my turnips by time traveling, not just once. Got autofilled by time traveling. Went to mystery islands with full bags. The list goes on... 😹

Something I do my best to NEVER do is ... rush the game... rushing the game and doing everything withen a few days eventually makes the game uninteresting to me and then Im less likely to pick it up and play, so I do my best to slow the game down and not rush it everything will happen just not right away 😊
Another mistake you missed: Don't keep resetting your Island cause if you keep resetting your island, it's gonna be hard for you to ever complete it. Slow down and stop being so picky about your island cause there's no such thing is a perfect island or a name.
well, if got the recipe, and some luck, you can build own tool, or upgrade the flimsy tools you can buy. I have done that when a tool broke on me on an island
The game is set for a different hemisphere, mine is set for the northern hemisphere, my son has his game set to the southern hemisphere so he has snow in the summer while I don’t.

One thing to NEVER EVER DO is if you dig up bells NEVER PLANT THE 1000 BELLS plant 10000 so when it grows you get 10x more then what you could of got if you didn’t plant more

You can also make tools on mystery islands without using bells you would just need to have supplies. Granted you should bring all your tools though.
I found all my non native fruits on mystery islands it’s especially easy when you get Kappin

When you villager hunt, abandon your ladder, this way villagers won’t spawn in cliffs anymore thus making it faster
