Last trip we brought home a variety of chocolate items (as gifts for our cat sitter), licorice, Reyka vodka, Brennivin, children's books about the Yule Lads (our grandchildren LOVED them!)and some Icewear items (love the outlet in Vik) and will do the same on our next trip in August. However, this time I plan to browse the jewelry, too!
Great choices, those items make great gifts and souvenirs!
A bonus bag is the most IYKYK bag if you use it regularly at home.
I’ve seen photos of vintage Icelandic maps and they look so beautiful! Is there any store that would sell them Iceland?
Props to you for pronouncing icelandic words pretty much spot on! better than any foreigner i've met.
Count down to our trip on July 28!!! I am definitely aiming to buy a sweater. But I love the idea of some piece of art representing Iceland to hang on my walls at home
Julie Campbell hopefully you started saving. Lopapeysur are expensive! An authentic one from the handknitting association would cost you almost $300 American. The ones at the Nordic Store are cheaper, but they're made in China with authentic Icelandic wool. They're still pricey, but not so hard on the wallet.
Paul Czubryt thanks for the heads up. I still might make the investment. I live in Michigan and in an old house so winters here are cold. So I am thinking the investment may be worth while and it would be a constant reminder of hopefully an amazing vacation
Yes the sweater will be your best investment for those cold Michigan winters!
I'm a Chicago girl & definitely need a sweater
I bought wool to make my own sweater and a pattern book in Icelandic. I had to break down and get the English version in the end, but what a great souvenir!
Great idea Wynonna, how did it turn out?! I would love to be able to make my own sweater but I get too impatient with knitting!
Loved the video! It would be great if you put the names of the shops on the screen-- no idea how to spell the names mentioned. Like the jewelry store..
Hi Donna, the jewelry store is called Aurum and the decor store is Kraum 😊
@@IcelandwithaViewgoogle maps says Kraum is permanently closed 😮
So funny, I just got back from our visit and I gotta say we brought back almost everything on your list!
YAY
Love your videos. They have helped us so much with the planning of our trip in June. My daughter and I both plan on buying a Lopapeysa and some jewelry. Need those sweaters here in Wisconsin. Of course we will also be bringing back candy for the children she nannies. Thank you Jeannie for sharing all of your knowledge!
You are so welcome! Thank you for watching! I hope you have the best.trip.ever!! :)
I'm visiting in October & need to put aside enough $ for souvenirs
I always pick up a package of Þristur when we visit. Hraun is another favorite of mine.
All of them!
Thanks Jeannie! greetings from Mexico!
Hey Astrid, thanks for watching!
A local rugby jersey but no luck yet. Hubby got a jersey when we were on Easter Island last year so I'll keep trying, we're going to be in Iceland in April.
This is so great!
Thank you Jeannie!
Going August 15th! Thank you for your videos so much❤️❤️❤️
You're going to love Iceland in August! Have a great trip :)
Bulk candy day? Is it still a thing? And is it in every supermarket or a specific one & if so which? We land next week! Thanks!
Leaving tomorrow! Can't tell you how excited we are, even dealing with all this covid. What Christmas items are fun to bring home?
How was your vacation?
Here now and this is what I needed to see! I will be so sad when we leave. Thanks for the video!
Happy to help! Thanks for watching !!:)
There is candy day in saturday here in Finland too
What are the big & tall options for clothing in Iceland? I typically wear 3xl tall and am hoping to score a sweater when I visit in September
You may want to get in touch with a local knitter to start working on a custom sweater for you. It will be quite pricey but you're more likely to find one that fits. The Handknitting Association of Iceland does carry 3XL with some variety in pattern and color but I'm not sure they have 3XL Tall. Maybe reach out to them to ask. Good luck!
Great video! We can get Reyka vodka here, so good! The canned air is hilarious! Reminds me of President Scroob from Spaceballs.
lol, it's too funny! On another note, the air in Iceland actually IS the best in the world!
Jeannie - Life With a View I'm sure it is! We can't wait to go!
It would be helpful if you added a note about the names of the shops you mention. I would like to buy my wife some jewelry, but your brief verbal mention gives me few clues.
You can find more details in the Blog post on my website: icelandwithaview.com/iceland-souvenirs/
Is it also possible to buy the poster behind you in Iceland? Would be nice to mark the route while traveling around Iceland 🗺️
I am hoping to find a piece of lava jewelry, wool to make my own sweater, and licorice 😀 My husband hates licorice, but I'm sure we will find him a different candy 😊
Hiii, can you Tell like a Price range for this amazing wool pullovers? And where to best get them?
Think you!!! Love your Channel!
Best deal in Iceland, huge Toblerone candy bar at Bonus for less than $5.00... I know it's not Icelandic, but still worth a look.
Do they still make Gliss? Glass with Icelandic lave rocks attached?
I had to laugh at your beginning comments regarding lame souvenirs because my supervisor wants me to bring her a magnet with an Icelandic horse on it. LOL.
🤣🤣🤣
Which supermarkets have the 50% off on the candies? And can you spell some of the store names? I'm leaving for KEF in early September and bought your guides. I love them and they have given me some really great ideas, especially Studligal Canyon! Can't wait.
What's the name of the last shop? I'm a designer and that's right up my alley!!
Kraum!
Got to get a map on to of your ideas
The good news is, I have one!

can you bring Icelandic alcohol into the USA if you're 20?
Hi Ally! Interesting question but remember that the US drinking age is 21 so no, "The importer must be 21 to bring alcoholic beverages into the United States." - help.cbp.gov/s/article/Article-212?language=en_US#:~:text=The%20importer%20must%20be%2021,beverages%20into%20the%20United%20States.
do they also sell suitcases to carry all these nice gifts?
of course! ;) Thanks for watching!
Can you suggest a place where I can get Viking jewelry or runes? Thanks alot Jeannie
Thanks for the tips - although I have to bring home a magnet as well!!! haha we do from everywhere so thats a for sure thing - I was also thinking something from 66 North as well. Cant wait for our trip 1 month from today!!!
Kurt Steege hey Kurt, sounds like we will be in Iceland the same time as you. I also collect magnets as well as pins We have actually booked with Mink Viking Potrait for a reminder of our trip (check out trip advisor). Lot more expensive than magnets, but thought like minds may be interested
Absolutely, you get that magnet Kurt ;)
Are prices firm at the flea market or can you negotiate?

I don't like supporting the idea of selling things like rocks, lava or ''salt'' as an Icelander myself, that nature should be left untouched and preserved and not mindlessly used up by corporations to sell products to tourists.
I was thinking of a can of fermented shark. To be openned when a friend hosts a party. If it is a good friend, wait for an outdoor gathering. A "friend" who throws lame parties and you only attend because you have to, then an indoor party. lol
Kidding, ...maybe. Candies to share and cold weather wear to keep.
How much should you expect to spend on one of those sweaters? 😊
They're usually around $200 give or take depending on where you buy it from
Blanket sweaters fish add anything else to buy there
Would you be able to take some of these through the airport?
I Love Jonna Napire 💜💚♥️

A sweather🤪
how do you white teeth like that/?
“Very unique.” SMH
more pics and tips, less talking. Good videos but too much talking
Salt! What a great idea and something that will pack well! Thanks for the great idea!
Yay, happy to help Annemarie! Have a great trip :)
How about a video on "What to do, where to buy MUCH NEEDED clothing/shoe items in a LOST LUGGAGE situation...not so much for summer but for winter. Booooo for lost luggage (this is my #1 fear on going on vacations)
get yourselves some Black n burnt chocolate. Best chocolate I've ever had , so unique.
One of my favourite stores on Laugavegur is the Mál og Menning bookstore! Great books, souvenirs, maps and a funky café upstairs! Travelled to Iceland from Australia back in May '18, after watching all of your videos, Jeannie. I have to go back. No reason to go anywhere else! Takk fyrir!
Thanks for watching and sharing!! :)
i guess Im randomly asking but does any of you know of a trick to get back into an instagram account?
I somehow lost my login password. I love any help you can offer me!
@Memphis Alvaro Instablaster :)
@Milo Roland i really appreciate your reply. I got to the site on google and im trying it out now.
Seems to take a while so I will get back to you later with my results.
@Milo Roland it did the trick and I now got access to my account again. I'm so happy!
Thank you so much, you saved my account :D
As a sport jersey collector, I will definitely bring home an Icelandic soccer/football jersey home with me.
What a great idea!
We leave for Iceland on Sunday. Thanks for letting me know about the salt. It will be easy to carry home for my friends who like to cook. Your videos have been so helpful. I studied how to say the Grand Canyon of Iceland, but now it is closed because of Justin Bieber!!! I can't wait to say the name of the church, however.
Thanks so much for watching, Debbie!
Should me and my family move to Iceland, My dad got offered a job there and he says if we want to we can move
So lucky u r
I’ll buy a post card for sure 😁 Thanks for your videos!!
You're so welcome! Happy to help! :)
I love the look and concept of the lava jewelry. I'm avoiding Rekjavik so hopefully I can find some of that jewelry in the smaller towns or in Akureyri.
April Kerlew you shouldn't have a problem in Akureyri. It's a fairly large center for Iceland ( though not as big as Reykjavik ).
Good luck April, I hope you find some too - what a great gift!
The salts sound good! Also the sweets and ....all of it!
And what to bring to Iceland as presents? I’m going in September for two weeks to Reykjavik and I am thinking of bringing lemons from my garden in Berkeley, and some bottles of wine from Spain and California to give as presents to people that I meet. I have heard those items would be much appreciated.
Thanks for your wonderful videos, Jeannie!
Great ideas Victoria, they will love it!
Maybe a video on all the Icelandic holidays? :)
Good idea, thanks for the input!
I like icelandic postcards
I would be remiss not to mention that probably the best way to get souvenirs is at the airport duty free. Everything we bought in town and and on this list could have been purchased at the airport at a significant discount. I don’t know if this sort of thing is common knowledge but we didn’t think of it until it was too late.
I watch all your videos religiously bc I'm going in September, and seriously omg nothing has got me more stoked than what you said 1:34.
lol too funny, I hope you get as much candy as your heart desires! Thanks so much for following along :)
Hey Jeanie. Did I write your name correctly. My girlfriend and I are in Iceland right now. We are doing the ring road. We will go to reykjavik in about 4 days. Do you know where can we buy a nice black bracelet? Something with thread rocks lava rocks
Check the souvenir shops on Laugavegur in Reykjavik!
Lava jewelry. Candy. Alcohol. And some gear
We only had had a couple of hours stopover at airport... on way from Amsterdam to New York (on WOW airlines... so sad it's gone...) but we brought really amazing Christmas tree ball decorations with the different "Icelandic Lads" hand painted on them... with such cool names like door slammer and sausage stealer!
Awesome, what a great souvenir!
@@IcelandwithaView Been binge watching your channel btw... I am trying really hard to convince "she who must say yes" to come back and do Iceland properly... only catch is we are from New Zealand... it's a loooong way... but... once you get to Europe, Iceland is not much further! Iceland looks so awesome.
Hi,Where to buy the Icelands moss in Iceland?
Haha, my sister and I managed to find 1 item from 66° North that fit our budget- we both got beanies! After seeing all those iconic ads, we had to!
I hear you! 66° North ain't cheap!!!
Love your personality! So light and lovely! Nice video btw! God bless ♥️
awww thank you so much Bia you are too sweet :)
Reyka is sold in Canada as well. The liquor stores here have it all the time.
I'm glad that Reyka is accessible around the world!
66 North jackets are great. They saved me from freezing!
So glad you found a good quality coat!
Salt
Thanks for this video! Good suggestions! Can you please print the Icelandic names on screen, or in the video description? Especially your favorite stores? The transcript doesn’t have a clue - same as me!
Great suggestion! I'll definitely keep that in mind for future videos!
I will be in Iceland in September and will keep an eye out for different flavored salts. Thanks for your suggestions!
I brought back local butter, local chocolate, a couple of liters of high end scotch which was surprisingly cheap the best thing was the photos and the memories!
I don't need wool stop I love fish but I catch it myself they brew beer there what can you buy there I mean what
I'm looking forward to checking out the shops you mentioned.
Thanks so much, going in July and now know what to look for. Love your videos!
probably a sweater and some chocolate!!
How much does the lava jewelry cost?
Whoa more info on that lava jewelry please
what was the name of the last shop she mentioned?
Love the salt idea
Yay!
I am so excited. I'll be there Friday morning (7/13)!!! This video is just in the nick of time!
woo hoo, have a great tip Heather :)
Hi, good informative videos.
When it is a best time to visit Iceland in terms of equal day light, aurora's (Northern Lights)?
Look forward to your response.
In fact the profile picture I have is also from Iceland
Thank you! Happy to help!! Everything Iceland in my blog, www.livelifewithaview.com !!
