    My problem in physics is that I really understand the material but when I try solving problems I get stuck. Some say that in that case I haven't fully understood the subject but I don't think so. It is really having a massive negative impact on my motivation and mental health

    • @Etudierenallemagne
      @Etudierenallemagne Рік тому +15

      You don't need to understand the subject from the material of the textbook you understand it from the solution.
      Resolve only problems with solutions in that way you can teach yourself
      If you do not understand the solutions then go read the textbook
      this way helped me to get my Ba sc in Phyisics

      @@Etudierenallemagne no I do really get the matter of the subject but applying it in the exercises is not straightforward. Like I was solving a problem in advanced statistical physics and at some point in the solutionsI was supposed to find the ground states of a complex hamiltonian. The math was easy but then to graphically present thatwas challenging ( if you've done the course in advanced statistical physics and landau theory you know what i'm talking) so i failed that exercise I thought I knew the whole process to solve it. I'm soon getting my master's degree

      @@hp.basketball Yes i knw the Subject, the way i have learned it is by following the paterns of solving similar problems to it, otherwise it is mind blocking to come up with the right solution
      just be awre of which partitian function you should use and wich scale you are allowed to use the Hamiltonian equation

      @@Etudierenallemagne try starting by easier questions, then work you're way up to the harder ones, now when you arrive here , try memorizing the solution method for every kind of question , since they sometimes just repeat themselves in different problems, its not that easy , you can't just understand a lesson and directly solve a problem, but you can work hard and learn more about the methodology of problems , until you get it.

    Thanks for your comment. You are exactly right, we need to develop a "stand alone" approach that doesn't require peer instruction. We are working on that now, and hope to have a new approach in the next year or so. Stay tuned.

      Hello Dr. Anderson,
      My name is Shatha, i'm from Saudi Arabia.
      I've been watching your lectures on UA-cam, and they helped me a lot in understanding physics.

    Many teachers give this advice. I do this with family members that are also doing Physics. It works. However, it is very time consuming. It is unfortunate that students may not always have the time to do this. :( I would love to have time to soak in the Physics...like that.

    At the beginning of my career, I remember how I got aware of that learning-effect
    when I was explaining object-oriented programming (OOP) to an intern.
    That was a moment in which I had deepened my understanding of that software design.

    To the people that don't have anyone to explain problems to: I, a 20 year old woman, talk everything out to anything. Inanimate objects, my dogs, anything that will (or can't) listen. In my room I'll sit a good ol' stuffed animal down in front of me and my notes and talk at it. Do my parents probably think I'm nuts? Perhaps. But it works. I used to force them to learn history by doing the same thing. If you can explain it to someone, you know it.

    A person asked this question
    I think this question has its place here because I am sure some of you are "self-taught experts" and can guide me a little through this process.
    Considering that :
    I don't have any physics scholar background at all.
    I have a little math background but nothing too complicated like calculus
    I am a fast learner and am willing to put many efforts into learning physics
    I am a computer programmer and analyst with a passion for physics laws, theories, studies and everything that helps me understand how things work or making me change the way I see things around me.
    Where do I start ? I mean.. Is there even a starting point ? Do I absolutly have to choose a type of physic ? Is it possible to learn physics on your own ?
    I know it's a general question but i'm sure you understand that i'm a little bit in the dark here.

      I'm not exactly sure what you mean by compete with your self. If by that you mean, "Challenge yourself," then I agree that it is healthy to continue to push your own boundaries. But challenging yourself does not mean to take some pedantic Western view of success (money, fame, prestige, etc.). I think it means to continue to learn. Be a student for life. Increase your knowledge. Do good for humankind. Find inner peace. Challenge yourself to get to a point where you can see the good in yourself and the good in others. Seek clarity and be calm as you move through the universe.

And if you forget them again and again just try to increase the number of times you revise and just understand where you are lacking and work on it. Just try to explain the stuff like a teacher. Believe me this is a great way of learning. I hope it helps

      Learn and practice a derivation on day 1 till you can do w/o looking. Do the same derivation 4 days later. Do you remember it? If yes, good on you, repeat that derivation in a week, and increased the time betweem each repetition as you progress. If you had to look at your textbook, then practice it, do the derivation till you can do it w/o looking and try it again after 3 days. Repeat this process for each derivation.
      Just like our bodies, our brains need consistent exercise to strengthen the neural connections which helps remember things for longer periods of time

    Or maybe make some youtube physics videos and see in the comments where you go wrong,or even more where you go more than just right~

    Best & Easy way to study physics.
    ==
    a) The evolution of the Universe began from micro-world,
    from laws and formulas of Quantum physics.
    b) All quantum particles exist in Dirac's ''vacuum sea' but nobody
    explains the parameters and conditions of Dirac's ''sea''.
    c) All quantum particles must have concrete geometrical form but
    nobody explain the g/ form of quantum particle.
    ==
    So, the best and easy way to understand Nature is to begin with
    Quantum theory: Dirac's reference frame and g/ form of quantum particles.

      بأختصار يقول:
      افضل طريقة للدراسة هي أن تقف أمام أصدقائك و تحاول تفهمهم السؤال و كيفية حله، وهذا الشيء يخليك تعرف الأشياء الي ما فاهمها، لان خلال الشرح تبدء تلاحظ اشياء ما راسخة بعقلك وتحاول تحلها مع أصدقائك، وهذا الشيء ممكن تلاحظه و تغض النظر عنه اذا درست وحدك، و كذلك اذا كنت واقف أمام أصدقائك وتحاول تدرسهم هذا الشيء يخليك تستوعب الاشياء اكثر...

    God tried to turn us from our sins through many rules but it didn't help so he became a man lived a sinless life like a 'game programmer' enter his own powerful avatar to overcome all the bugs and to save the other avatars in the simulation(or exam for good place) by sacrificing his own avatar to help the other avatars to make through the exam, anyone can posses that power when he/she have faith in jesus
    HE'S coming back

    Everything that exists, has existed, or will exist came from the mouth of God. He sits on His throne in the Kingdom of God and speaks things into existence. He controls all with His Word, Jesus Christ. He has always been and always will be. This is the LORD. This is the truth.
