The zone was banned until 2001. Just like how players foul bait now back in the 90s teams would illegal defense bait to get freethrows. The main reason the zone was banned was the increase the offense, this was implemented before the 24 second clock.
They did it for the league’s best offensive player at the time his airness . I know this is why he dominated 90’s . Imagine , Magic , Bird , dominated without the rule . How great was MJ ?
@@cajetansharpe421 that is false. Zone defenses were banned since 1947. Way before Michael Jordan was born. What the NBA did to protect Jordan was implement Flagrant fouls because the Detroit Pistons were overtly physical. Flagrant fouls were added in 1990, in 91 Jordan won.
@@cajetansharpe421 the NBA made adjustments to the rule to help Jordan but didn't add it to help him. Adding Flagrant Fouls helped him more. Just like how the NBA thought allowing zones would improve offense but what helped more was banning hand checking. Making the game less physical (adding Flagrant fouls, banning hand checking) helped offensive players more and made it harder to defend. Also I think you're reading it wrong. The NBA banned zones in 1947. A year after the league was created. NINETEEN FORTY-SEVEN!!! NOT 87
@@BurritoKingdom he was the most marketed player of his era . He helped globalize Basketball and the NBA brand . I believe it did . His first Championship wasn’t until 1991 he was drafted in 84 . I think the rule changes and the trust in the triangle offense got him over the hill . Craft it however you want . To me it’s a large asterisk. The rules weren’t altered for Magic or Bird . And they dominated in an era with arguably the toughest defense played . Magic won Finals MVP as a Rookie and Bird Won three consecutive MVPs in that era . 🤷🏾♂️ . Just my humble opinion . Crazy that wilt scored 100 without 3 pointers💀
And when defence was better too

Did you just say defense was better lol. Dude cmon. And there is no proof he ever scored 100
To protect Michael Jordan
celtics vs basically every team
I thought I was going to listen to Phil explain it. Pathetic title. Are you that desperate for views?
I know right agree
Imagine we add a 4pt line from a farther range to hone sharp shooting ability even more
Why stop there ? Why not a 5 point and 6 point line. 7 points from beyond 3/4 quart.
Oh no worries that’ll be next thing they do.
The NBA was better with man2man coverage defense.
I still believe that Pro Basketball should be strictly man 2 man
With no picks
why? why do you think so?
at times like this i really do wonder if other sports have "fans" as dumb as this
How good would the precious Splash Bros. have been back then?
Probably bench players tbh

Steph would have had trouble with physical play that was allowed in the 90s
@@dereklarner6298 he definitely wouldn’t have 😭. He gets hit on a lot of shots and still make them, stop chatting.

The zone defense has destroyed the current NBA game. Go back to man2man defense.
