Just listen to Denise with that high, piercing soprano. Dont get me wrong I love Jacky, Twinkie, Dorinda, and Karen's voice but its something about ole Niecy!!!!
Thank you to the uploader for this. I love to hear any original performances of The Clark Sisters as a quintet. My favorite part of this is the end @7:31 when Karen does that riff on the word holy and then the others come in @7:34 - @7:37 with Denise holding that top harmony and Dorinda and Twinkie doing those riff on the middle and bottom harmonies, respectively (I don't hear Jackie). EDIT: Also love when they sang the word holy @5:39 - @5:45 Denise holding the top note and Twinkie doing that dope riff on the bottom harmony.
They sung this night! The Clark Sisters have always excelled at great singing, but I'd be lying if I said I didn't miss that good old five voice blend they had back in those days. God Bless Them.
I know Jacky sang tenor. But did Twinkie sing tenor with her or did Twinkie sing bass. Dorinda alto. Denise and Karen soprano. Or did Karen sing second soprano? I know when one led, the others switched parts. OMG They are so gifted and talented. And I am a 35 year fan of them.
MaeSekou Karen sang lead. Endow me is only arranged in 3 parts. Denise on top, Dorinda sang alto, Jacky alternates between alto and tenor and Twinkie sang tenor. The reason it is hard to decipher at times is because Jacky and Twinkie have that same resonance in their bottom range but Jacky makes up the blend when Twinkie falls out of the bottom. She generally sings alto.
+newcreature2011 Yes two of their most difficult songs for my to differentiate between their voices are "Crown Him Lord Of All" and "Walking In The Spirit"
newcreature2011 Also on the album when they recorded "Endow Me" I always figured and could even hear Karen singing soprano in the background. Perhaps did some overdubs and add-ins
No problem, I like this picture of them, Denise must didn't get the memo that Dr. Mattie Moss Clark didn't want them to break up! I pray they can work out their difference because when she was in the group, that harmony was un-stoppable, they wouldn't need back-up singers when they did the One Last Time dvd....
I actually think this performance was in 1984 or 1985. They had two consecutive Grammy nominations in 1984 and 1985 so it was one of those years. If you see the Grammy footage, you see Lionel Richie and Sheila E in the audience clapping to them and Lionel was nominated for Can't Slow Down at the 85 show.
No Karen didn’t say “It will make the sissy’s stop switching” LOL girl them same sissy’s that do y’all hair eyebrows eyelashes and everything else? Sit down 😂😂😂😂

Wish they all could have stayed together.

Yes, that's her singing soprano in the background.
