it’s hard to watch a runner like sahlman go out that fast and hold that pace and lead, Ricks did exactly what he should have in that situation staying back and waiting for sahlman to tire out. great kick.

He went out like he was running a 400M. He needs to accelerate to speed and coast a little.. His engine is tops but he needs to tune his wheels.

Sahlman is a "strength" 800 runner. He won the national XC title. Strength 800 guys win with as close to even splits as possible. :52/:59 is outrageous. He could've won with :54/:55 splits. The fast 400 guys are the one's who run the first 400 in :52 & hang on for dear life.

The final kick that he had in the end and how relaxed he looked throughout the race makes it look like he could run way faster.

The top two had different agendas. Salman was trying to set a record, do something extraordinary, Ricks was trying to win a race. Can't fault either runner, maybe before the season ends they will run "together" to set a truelly amazing mark.

Aaron was way too hyped up man he went out way too hard, it’s ok he’ll learn

Exactly, he went out way too hard, his splits were 51 and 59, if he went out in like a 53 or 54, then he would’ve had the strength to run another 54-55 thus breaking 1:50

He’s not trying to pace it perfectly he is purposely going out harder than he should these races don’t matter to him

Sahlman went out way too fast, if he would’ve stayed with Xai Ricks we all know he has the leg speed to outkick him if he didn’t go out so hard.

He’s literally retarded going out in 51. The hell does he think he’s gonna do, come back in 53 and run a 1:44?

Sahlman didn’t. Ricks ran 1:49.19. We shall see if both athletes stay healthy. We should be thankful for the race, and both athletes being healthy.

Agreed…. keep going for IT. He‘ll real it in as age and training (better yet, non-injury!) make him stronger!
You can’t get to the other side without swimming into deeper waters.

Go get 'em Aaron. Run for the future, who cares about this title. International titles is what a runner of your caliber should be aiming for. If an 800 guy wants to run 1:43s he has to train/attempt to run 1:43s. I applaud the Ingebritzen-like front running.
