    Cool video mate. Pricing work can be so hard at times. Sometimes I go through phases of working to price and other times I try to work on a day rate and decide the level of finish as I go along with the customer. It’s hard to know what the customer wants until u start sometimes

      +Stuart McIntosh thank you for your kind words, Pricing furniture is a nightmare. But I have since discovered away to make money painting furniture 👍👍 do you get involved painting furniture much?

      Painting and Decorating Tips by TJ I have just done the odd wee bit of furniture when doing a room. Painted mahogany cabinets and bedroom furniture etc. But I usually just do it on an estimate or a day rate. I haven’t done any buying and selling of furniture although I know people that go to auctions and pick up some stuff to repaint but the trick is finding the right place to sell them again. I do most of my decorating work on a price but I’m getting tired of working to price to be honest lol I have worked for years to try and build up enough customers that don’t ask for a price until I’m finished the job. You know the wee customer u have worked for for years that trusts you to the end and u just do the job to the standard they like. They are the ones I want. Working on a price stresses me out 😂and if u r a perfectionist you will always find a reason to do more than you have priced for. That’s what happens to me on price. Constantly running over. Especially when it comes to hanging paper etc

    Interesting video. Surely the prep is the time consuming part and most DIYers wouldn’t think that part important. Yes you’ll get a finish but will it stay on over time. The Caparol PU Satin gives great results even with brush or roller on well prepared sub base, Ill spray if I’ve got loads of fiddle bits can’t beat it. Also spray radiators as a treat for the customers. Last one I did the customer thought I’d put a new rad on!

      I agree with everything you said John, prep is the biggest part of any job. It's a job most DIYer's don't do enough of imo?

    Interesting video Trevor. It just shows how crucial it is that you do a "fact find" with your customer to look at what they are looking for rather than presuming you know what they want. Don't forget your kitchen salesman skills, ha, ha.

    I’ve done a lot of furniture painting and up cycling for people. I use HVLP mostly but if it’s a big project and loads to do I use the airless as much quicker, there is money to be made down this route but it’s convincing people not to go the DIY route with zero prep etc. Even with the worst rushed finish i deliver in my opinion they are ecstatic with the finish! 🤷🏼‍♂️

    • @DecorDev

      exactly I think that is whwere you spend most time doing the Prep?

    Wow that was a big drop but yes I do think there is money to be made in painting furniture I have done in the past a old book case I got for next to nothing sanded it and painted it and sold it on for good money it’s all depending on what market you going after and what your willing to do and use yes using a paint sprayer might be quicker but might not always be necessary but it’s it’s down to you great video and nice hair cut

      Like I said there is money there. But you have to get the piece for next to nothing. What type of furniture did you find sold the best?

    Did you use PU satin for top coat?

    • @DecorDev

      Yes is was Caparol PU Satin, have you used it?

    • @randomrider9501
      @randomrider9501 4 роки тому +1

      Yes but only brushed doors/skirts, still gives a nice finish. Got a table to spray not sure it will be a strong enough finish though.

    • @DecorDev
      @DecorDev  4 роки тому +1

      @@randomrider9501 I am sure if you give the table a couple of good coats of PU it would be fine, alos leave enough drying time between coats really helps. I think because it's water based people pile on the coats. Not giving the coats proper time to dry?

    don't really see the point in spraying especially furniture if you use a nice oil paint which i think is essential on furniture etc all you need is a brush if you stick to traditional paints etc even though they ant as good as they used to be still far superior to water and always will be then these no need for expensive equipment.

      @@DecorDev oh yes of course always want the best finish i know but if people ant willing to pay for it then you can't but i find its a bit awkward asking what level of finish they want because a lot of the time people want expect the best finish when the money ant right
