  • Buildup of Masterpiece Models 1/6 scale Time Machine.
    Unique features: The dish is driven by internal drive shafts and gears. The arms are hinged, the molded rivets are replaced with real brass rivets. The green coils actually conduct electricity to the 'Top' light.
    Build time, about 2 months.

    The 1960 Time Machine movie is THE BEST time travel movie ever made. It had warmth, charm, a great cast and believable special effects for the sensation of travelling through time. The musical score was very appropriate for the Victorian period of the film. The relationship between George and Filby gave an extra dimension to the story and was an integral part of the 1993 short sequel, "The Time Machine: The Journey Back" - guaranteed to bring years to your eyes! Russell Garcia told me that the "sound" the machine made was through a series of various musical instruments . If course, the machine itself was the real star of the film. It's sad, in a way, that no "outtakes" were saved. It is also sad the George Pal never made his hoped-for sequel. Would have been interesting! A sequel could still be made, however, only IF the original machine, it's sound and the stop-action special effects are used, remaining faithful to the original film. The story could be centered around George and Weena's son as the "new" time traveler - why not?

    Hi Thomas,
    I used some of the upgrade kit but the dish drive is all my design.

  • @alanhaskell65
    @alanhaskell65  8 років тому +4

    Hi Geoffrey,
    I did not use the kit supplied pot or voltage regulator. I bought a 10 amp PWM motor control and used a pot that I bought at the electronics store.
    It was quite a challenge to get it all to work. The internal gearing was even more of a challenge.
    See some pictures here.

    Alan, in light of the current group build with Sprueverse, Lou, and Wayne, do you have any WIP built logs to view. Static or video? I would very much like to see how you went about your motorization. It seems quieter and smoother. I also have this MM kit. The other branded basic one, does seem to be a slight upgrade on ours. LOTS of casting fixes needed on mine. Cherrs! Great job! 👍

    "Came out pretty darn good" is an understatement sir, fantastic!
    I had been looking at this model but seen some complaints about the quality of casting especially the chair parts also its rather expensive at $180 plus $350!!!! for the upgrade kit to make it work!
    Did you modify the upgrade kit or do the 'working' parts yourself, would love to know how you modified it.
    Again beautiful and brilliant job sir.

    How in the world did you get the control panel mechanism to work? The way the two potentiometers are physically configured are still a mystery since the drawings & instructions are so darn confusing. Did you come up with your own method? If so, I'd LOVE to hear it so I can finish this dog. Thanks.

    Your build is phenomenal! I just received my kit from Masterpiece. I would enjoy motorizing mine like yours. Please post any links to where you found the motor and gears to do so. Also, perhaps, you could give us a tutorial on you your genius. Hope you will respond. Thanks

    I have some build pictures on photobucket at:
    Email me at ahask12345@aol.com for a photobucket link.
    The casting quality varies. My kit had/has small holes on the dish rivet detail. My friends did not have this defect. Over all, I was happy with the parts. The chair parts were near perfect.
    I did not use the mechanical parts in the kit. I bought gears and bearings and a ESC and designed all of the drive parts myself. Thanks for your interest.

    Okay .. I got the lightening generator running.

    Okay ... batteries are charged .
    If you think I’m gonna sit between the two , your nuts ...
    Three possibilities.
    1 time travel happens .
    2 , teleportation happens ..
    3 , electric chair execution ...
    The lightening engine power is contained .
    The lightening generator is contained .
    Gonna use accelerometer at same time on both engine and generator at same time , increasing both powers at same time ..

    I'm assuming that you either jettisoned the Masterpiece Models so-called upgrade kit (an incredible rip off - it DOESN"T WORK AT ALL!) and installed your own electronics. Thanks for the photo of the potentiometer set up inside the control panel. I'm sorry I've wasted so much time & money on this kit. Your version is so much better AND simplier.

  • @geoffreylucier5772
    @geoffreylucier5772 8 років тому

    Very nice job considering the poor quality of the kit & the instructions. Some parts are missing or different, instructions & drawings are unclear, inaccurate or incomplete (I had to write to the company to get a complete set - the ones they send via download are missing the last 20 pages or so). Purchase at your peril! This 'review in reference the lighted kit).
