This is so incredible & Nostolgic at the same time. I used to ride this trail like it was a walk in the park when I was a kid. I've been biking for last 9 mos to build up nerve to go back 30yrs later.
Chantry has been closed since the Bobcat fire in 2020. Last I heard it was expected to be reopened in early 2025. I have wondered what is left of the lush vegetation in this video.
I forget the name of it but it's basically a trail bell to warn hikers and animals that you are coming. At the time I made this video there had been a hiker that had contact with a bear in that area. Since then I moved the bell to where I could switch it on and off with my thumb, closer to the handgrip. This allows me to leave it off most of the time and only turn it on when I see someone ahead or I'm in a particularly blind area where I might surprise someone or something. I got the bell at REI.
The Mt Zion turnout is right between 5:04 and 5:09 in this video. Mt Zion from this point is pretty tough on a hot day. It's steep, narrow and the trail is made up of a highly deteriorated rock and dirt combo. It can definitely be done but i turned around because it was really hot and I clearly didn't have the time the conditions were going to demand.
I'm using a Yi 4k+. It's been awhile since I recorded this. I don't use any extreme settings ever. I probably adjusted the levels in my video editor. I think this is before I started using an external audio recorder to alleviate the gimbal noise.

What’s the bell sound?
