While also would like to see this, I have to ask, under what law would a politician (or anyone else involved) be charged? Unfortunately, at the time all these settlements were made, there was no law requiring them to be made public.
Imagine if you allowed the citizen to keep what he earns rather than having it stolen from him by his government and spent by government, for the best interests of government? Maybe the citizen knows best how to spend the money, which government steals from him, rather than the government which steals it does.
5:25 how did they settle a case for $200K over a cow in the road?? New Mexico is an Open Range State!!!!!! New Mexico has an "open range" law. That means if you live near cattle, sheep or other livestock and do not want them on your property it is your responsibility to keep them off through lawful means. It also means livestock are free to roam wherever, including on roadways. And…if you hit a cow or some other livestock, and assuming you survive, you can be sued by the animal's owner for damage.
@@crazyknarf Most likely they would only remove that portion of said fence located withing the road right of way or the road itself if it were already a street previously dedicated to the public. Who's fault is it if your fence is located on land you don't own and it's removed? Yeah, yours.
My dad uses to say “we should hang all the crooked lawyers, the other two we can put up with” and I used to think he was kidding. That was twenty years ago, if he were alive today with all these slimy personal injury lawyer ads and suits he would probably sent about fulfilling his plan.
I’ve got a solution for all of this. All employees within public trust, police, politicians, judges(doesn’t really count because you can’t civilly sue a judge) etc. Should all have to carry PRIVATE liability insurance and all lawsuits are to be paid out in said insurance money or by the responsible party. Problem solved. End qualified immunity.
I can recall working as a temp in a town in NJ (1980's). The attorney hired for a lawsuit on the town and the fee for his services? $500,000 Per day! plus expenses. Some court cases can go from 2 to 3 days to almost an entire month. The attorney defending the town always wanted to delay the court hearing over and over again. This IMO is the way this man was able to more money the more days he worked, the more money he and his firm would get. So paying settlements is a whole lot cheaper then pay the attorney fees that are out of the world. It's paying the lesser of the claims. And if the township/state/school/university lost the cases that could have cost them millions of dollars in tax payer money.
It's easy to hand out other peoples money and cover up for internal wrong doing. By being able to conceal it, you don't have to deal with the bad actors.
Here's an idea...if the official has done some wrong on behalf of the company, state or government. Then I can can understand taxpayers paying ONCE. But they should be fired! No tolerance. If they do wrong as a personal moral defiency then they should be fired and the official will have to defend himself with his own money!
Tax money paid by taxpayers, supposedly wisely used for purposes as outlined in the tax code, or not. Accountability to the taxpayers must be mandated!!
This happens in every state. And in every state they make laws and regulations that allow payouts to be hidden and confidential. It should all be public.
It sounds a lot more like hiding incompetence than risk management. Does each settlement come with a firing of those responsible for this incompetence? Yah, I didn't think so.
In the United States, the people have rights. With those rights comes responsibilities and duties, other countries don't. Freedom and Liberty are not free. Every generation has responsibilities just like those before them and those that will follow. Who else is going to do except the citizen who has skin on the game? A government worker or appointed watchdog? Not a chance. The people must be about the business of their street, block, neighborhood, city, borough, county, state, region and Commonwealth, Republic States in this nation, at all times.
It’s time to hold public officials accountable for their negligence and stupidity. Why we the tax payers have to put up the bill for this idiots. It’s time to end corruption.
And what will happen to these representive of the people who just gave money away. Not a dam thing they will get there pay and retirment so I guess it is another F the tax payer. Lot of shady dealings.
They did this in SF a few decades ago except the plaintiff s were always friends and family members of court and city officials. And they all tripped in the same pot holes and the deals were all decided by the same city employees ,year after year. This is true. Really, all governments are there to enrich said government, both sides, and just do enough for the people to make a good excuse. Really , you think we have been in Afghanistan all these years to help us? To help them? No, to sell arms and bandages and generators and army showers and a million other things Haliburton and Chaney and Rumi's friends sell. Anarchy is the way of peace. Government is just crime, all it's ever been
Is there anything a politician can do that results in penalties thru imprisonment & financial penalty for their mistakes or is it only taxpayers that get that?
reallue only taxpayers all those politicians are lawyers and a lawyer once told me the truth doesn't matter only thing that matters is what can be proved
If both parties agree to this type of settlement. Then where is the wrong doing. Would tax payers spend more to litigate a claim to it's completion? Especially if there is overwhelming evidence of wrong doing on the part of the state.
Why are there no settlements being investigated for police violations and being settled with tax payers funds without firing the cops responsible or their supervisors? I think if you looked into all the cases across NM for 10 tears it would make these look like school kids lunch money. Police unions, police themselves are never ever held responsible. They should be made to carry their own liability insurance for one reason, that reason is because police killings that where not justified are not part of their job description. Police violating people’s civil rights are not part of their job descriptions, so why should the tax payers pay for something that they do not want their police doing? End Qualified Immunity and make all cops carry their own liability insurance. After violating someone’s rights and the insurance company paying out I highly doubt the cops will be able to pay their premiums. Good cops have nothing to worry about, do your job correctly and you have nothing to worry about.

Some politicians go to jail but too few. You can Google public officials who have gone to jail. But it's only a beginning. There will be more.

One reason taxes keep going up.
"We did a internal investigation and found no wrong doing"
Term limits for all politicians!
Glad barker and his team are still around, loved watching as resident in New Mexico.
Now in UK.
Another reason for the secrets, they could be paying out to family members and/or friends

When satan rules supreme! Anyone buy the one that Hillary would be indicted within 75 days? My indifference has caused me to lose count! AGAIN!!!!🤔
Whole state is getting the Shakedown from attorneys.
And why the public servants haven’t gone to prison?
Wonder how many girlfriends made claims and was paid. also, wonder if the officials will go to jail?

The case brought by the five employees, settled in 18 days should be prosecuted as spending tax-money for personal political reasons.

Unless the state was doing work on the state road and removed a fence. Then IMO the state has the reasonability for the lawsuit.

Hiding payments from the public is ridiculous!
Two sets of laws; one for the elite and one for the common man.
Increasing rampant corruption is a symptom of a failing government.
I’m addicted to these Larry barker investigations lol. This is like my 10th one
They dance around in what they call it. How about "stealing"?
I would love to know the amount of money the federal government has paid out.
Congress does it all the time
Should be coming out of the guilty bureaucrats pockets.
This has been going on for years. If he'd investigate it on the federal level he would be paid to shut up about it.
Why do we pay the government anyway they waste our money
@regalblue41 Sorry to burst your bubble, but this is hardly exclusive to New Mexico.
