Don't know if anyone in your chat explained why the facial expressions are so weird in this but there's an interesting bit of history to these quests. They were actually the testbeds for the facial expression technology in the game as well as new ways to use the camera for dynamic shots. As you might have noticed, everyone in ARR was a bit lacking in the expressiveness but as you get further into the game, especially in Shadowbringers and beyond you'll start to see the fruits of this goofy little side plot.
These Hilldibrand quests were very outlandish, as they were quests introduced in the last patch of 1.0 and intended as a fun game of "lets break all the rules of quest designing we can get away with", to say goodbye to the game. Fortunately enough, they were well received and the team decided to carry on with what now is a tradition. The "trip to Dalamud" that gets mentioned a few times is that exact quest, in which Hildibrand got ahold of Bradamante - Nael Van Darnus' signature weapon -, which is the selfsame spear that appears in these quests and probably propelled back by a shard of Dalamud, after it got cracked open by big bad Bahamut!

If you did that before the Hildy chain he would recognize you here as "the one with strong yet gentle fingers." 2:36:01 He's also the founder and owner of the Manderville Gold Saucer. He actually uses it to give refugees and the poor employment. 3:19:05 The pain in Hildy's face for that burn.
