This is babytonix. They are in a stairwell. Remember that they were either newly graduated from college or had dropped out of college. They had won $200k and a record deal, but the label dropped them a week after they all moved to LA. This is the first viral video that they did. A lot of their early videos are filmed in one of their apartments and sitting on a couch. If you react to their cover of thrift shop, they actually did go to a thrift store for their wardrobe. There's also a fan video of them singing thrift shop over an airport intercom. They are crazy talented.
Just barely out of high school {Mitch) and I think maybe college freshmen (Kirstie and Scott). Avi and Kevin were older. I think Kevin had just finished pre med at Yale. would still like to see his parents' expressions when he said " I'm gonna beat box" !
This is one of their oldest recordings, they didn't have a lot of funds for recording studios, so they recorded this in a space that had great acoustic sound.
@@GwenneddNah, this is 100% after they got cameras and mics. This is not live. I don't know if the vocal was recorded there and then synced over, but this is not live vocals. They have talked about how this song is the first official proffesional mix they listened to of their own stuff. The Ipad was just for their first jagger video, then they added a camera, then one mic, then one each for avi and kevin etc.
Babytonix!!! Fun Fact: Original artist, Gotye, told Ben Bram, Pentatonix co-arranger, that he liked Pentatonix cover of his song. They were thrilled. Thanks for the reaction.
A babytonix impressive video. They filmed on a couch, in stairwells, anywhere they could. Things looked up after they won a Grammy for Daft Punk later and they got a new recording contract. This band literally built themselves on social media. And look at them now with Kiss From A Rose and O Holy Night. Even then their harmonies and style rocked it. You would like Gangnam Style and Thrift Shop. Early videos and very fun. ( there is also a video of bloopers for Gangnam Style).
Mitch is my guy, all day every day. I could listen to him without any music or just Kevin beatboxing, tho I think Kevin on cello and Mitch singing would be perfection. I love Kirsty, just like all of them, but. Mitch to me is the stand out. It's always fun watching the early videos in their "baby-tonix"days.
To me, this song was vocal games that PTX played so well. I completely missed so much on my first listen as I was captivated with the entire sound and video drops when the sound did. Normally drawn to Avi's bass, in this one I noticed Scott's vocal play sounds just before Kirstie's solo part, and Kevin's water dripping sounds as Kirstie sang. OMG! Then, I was Mitch-slapped with the vocals at the end. This song just blew me away. Then, I listened to it on repeat, lol.
This was one of their very first videos that wasn't in the living room with them on a sofa. Most all of the videos older than this one was done with an iPad and a single mic!!!!
You may notice that Avi did not sing a lot when he was with PTX. He did do harmonies with them a few solos but most of the time it was the trio. So glad he went out on his own. His voice is to beautiful to not hear.
It isn't like Avi was unhappy with his role in the group, and other members of the group have released solo work while still being #PTX. It's sad that he struggled to handle the pressures of touring etc with PTX, and that is the only reason he felt he had to leave
@annmoomau881 Agree it was hard for him for sure. Never said he was unhappy there, just stated that I am happy to hear him sing. His voice is so beautiful. Still love Ptx old and new.
This video was actually recorded behind their apartment building, because when the neighbors came home, they would go outside so they did not disturb anyone that wanted quiet. That's what I heard anyway. Don't know if it's true. It does look like the outside of a building though.
Rather be is a song that kirstin leads from back then and they filmed the video while fhey were un Japan. Be my eyes is song kirstin wrote and leads from right after covid lock down was over. They all sound great in it and it has a great video. Highly suggested. Great eeaction
For more Kirstin: Rather Be, Be My Eyes, Can You Feel the Love Tonight?, Shallow, My Favorite Things, Water from Popspring 2016 and her EP LOVE. You two are funny! I’ll only leave if you stop giving PTX the 💜. #PTX
From Wikipedia: “"Somebody That I Used to Know" is a song written, produced and performed by Australian musician and singer Gotye, featuring vocals from New Zealand singer Kimbra.”
Blind is right, Kimbra was the featured artist on the original release. The three types shook are; Scott-swat, Mitch-slap, Kirstie whipped. You can also be KO’d, but I can’t think of anything for Avi. I’ll except any help from others.

And recorded with Mitch's iPad. They had no real recording budget in those days.

@@hernameispekka_Rebecca, oh...okay. I assumed from the low budget location that they were still in the "just beginning "phase.
In the parking garage
Tonights the grammys. Ptx has been nominated and they will be performing.
They will be performing pre show tonight. So you can catch it on a stream.
Mitch's voice is just AMAZING in this song-- Love his voice then and NOW -- WOW!!

A great Pentatonix is Singapore Live!!!!
NotYourNormalGranny
I think it was a staircase they filmed / recorded this because of the acoustic.
You need to hear light in the hallway

MTV Japan Pop spring 2016 is 3 originals plus one. The last song Water was written by Kevin and Kirsten
This was a very early video - Babytonix - before they got famous.
Thry look so young on here 😊 they never disappoint! Love PTX❤
They are lovely ☺️
Kimbra was with Goyte in the original.
Sign of the times- Kevin Olusola
Definitely 👌😊

Kirstie does have solo music (not with Kev, though). I love her songs Naked and Break a Little. You should check them out!
Love Kevins drips, But I'm also a big Kevin fan. ❤
Recommend their cover of My Favorite Things.
Recommend their original of Be My Eyes.
"Be My Eyes" is sung by Kirstin and I think she may have helped write that song. Check it out.

Avi’s mother was sick and he couldn’t get home as much as he wanted. I’m glad he’s able to make the music he loves. And Matt made a great replacement.

As you can see it is quite a while ago. TX for the upload. I love love this. Greetings from South Africa
#PTX forever!! 😁❤️
Kirstin released a solo album a few years ago called Love. You should look for, sshe has videos on her channel.
Kirsten leads Rather Be and Say Something.
In the original by Gotye, Kimbra performed the solo part that Kirstie performed in the PTX cover/upgrade.
From Wikipedia: “"Somebody That I Used to Know" is a song written, produced and performed by Australian musician and singer Gotye, featuring vocals from New Zealand singer Kimbra.”
If you haven't yet React to Pentatonix Season of Love
It was on a Fourth TV special and Kirstie kicked butt
Recommend their cover of Rather Be.
Awesome ☺️ Thanks for sharing
Add Avi-lanche!😅
PTX🔥🤘

Go to Kirstin's channel. She has a few videos on it with great songs she has been instrumental in writing.
😂😂😂
Avi can’t sing that high lol
They are auto tuned. Like everyone else these days
