@@jareddembrun783 Ha. Thanks for commenting. I completely forgot about this interview. I can't believe it was 11 years ago. I'll have to check out what Plantinga has written lately.
Foremost minds in philosophy? Philosophy of religion maybe. The foremost minds in the philosophy of religion are sitting in the kiddy pool with water-wings on compared to the philosophical community as a whole.
Plantinga probably said this when he realized his AC was broken: "I am being appeared to in such a way so as to form the belief that I have an AC unit and it is broken, and as I am not yet suffering from the heat, my cognitive faculties are probably functioning properly towards the goal of forming true beliefs, and beings I have no reason to doubt the quality of the design plan of those faculties, my belief that the AC is broken must be warranted for me" Did I get it all?
Haha I was wondering the same thing. In fact, Plantinga got Emails quite frequently asking him if his AC unit was working. If this video isn't an intentionally set up parody, then it would be the irony of all philosophical ironies.
@@Returnality This video does seem pretty legitimate to me, to be honest. So yes, this coincidental phenomenon is one of the most ironic things out there.
P1: There is a possible world where my AC is the most effective AC ever. P2: By the foundational axiom of S5, if possibly s, then necessarily possibly S. Conclusion: My AC is the most effective AC ever.
"It's only 5 degrees cooler inside Alvin Plantingas then it is outside today..." WAIT! STOP! ROLL IT BACK! She should have said "It's only 5 degrees cooler in the greatest living Christian Analytic Philosopher who defeated the Problem of Evil, fomulated a new Modal Ontological Argument, Made an Argument against Naturalism based on Evolutionary Neuroscience etc, Professor Alvin Planinga's home than it is outside today." Correct now.
This is like the Monty Python skit in which Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart introduces videos of "famous deaths." The foremost Christian philosopher on broken A/C! HOW did they ever choose Plantinga and not make mention of his stature. Very funny.
Were Plantinga to be rewriting the intro to his Warrant series today, he could say: 'If I believe that Homer was born before 800 B.C. and believe this with as much fervor as that you've got to have a PhD in engineering to use today's A/C thermostats, then my degree of confidence in the former proposition is excessive and unwarranted".
If only his AC unit was functioning properly, he'd have a temperature in the home that is properly basic and he'd be warranted in inviting over some guests for a necessary chat.
@loudogg17 Perhaps the news casters knew something about him. However the more important question is, how many people that watched that interview know he shaped the course of human history?
P1: If the perfect AC unit exists I can concieve of it P2: I can concieve of it C: The perfect AC unit exists. *Ohh that must be the delivery guy with my free, perfect AC unit!*
I’ve read some of his work, had to go back and re-read it, and finally gave up concluding it was beyond my ability to understand currently. So as an HVAC guy, seeing him complain that he can’t understand his A/C unit (and probably didn’t maintain it correctly) is encouraging. We all have our areas of competence and areas we struggle with. Even Alvin Plantiga.
Al, Al, Al - I thought I taught you better than this about electronics! ha ha ha - I love this man. I am so going to send him a jabbing email now though!
@1GodOnlyOne Keep them coming :) I am getting a lot of self loathing from you. It's ok, I promise the world will accept you once you accept yourself. We all
@loudogg17 How did he shape the course of human history? I mean he's an important philosopher, but "shaped the course of history?" I am extremely curious!
@1GodOnlyOne Ok, TROLL OFTEN? What I find funny is that you seem to be offended. Take a deep breath, step back, watch the video again. It's fucking funny.
This is like interviewing Descartes about a horseshoe that fell off his horse.

They interviewed a world-renowned Philosopher, and he said the most normal, boring things about his AC unit. I love it.
He resolved the logical problem of evil, but apparently he wasn't able to resolve the indomitable problem of AC failure.
Lol
They heard Plantinga's an expert in A/C models and wrote 'Warranty and Proper Function'.

Superb
Just brilliant lol
Next thing we know Richard Swinburne will be on TV to inform us on how to make good pasta salad

We visited William Lane Craig's domicile to know about the roof leak problems in his house.
One of the greatest philosophers in modern Christianity, right there. That's him. With broken AC.
“Alvin Plantinga, Air Conditioning stopped working” is the greatest text box ever.
What the heck??? Why would they use Dr. Plantinga for talking about ACs? I can't get over how surreal this is. ROFL
Hahahaha one of the foremost minds in philosophy, and they have no clue who he is
Only another human being with problems to solve.
That is the saddest thing ever.

Could you imagine sitting down watching the news live and then seeing this? The news casters are so nonchalant about Plantinga it's hilarious!
I can't get enough of this. I post it on FB ever summer for those who haven't discovered it yet.
How did he resist the urge to blurt out some theology at the end?
I'm sure the interviewer asked Plantinga off camera, 'Um, just wondering, why do you have so many books?'
This...THIS is the most amazing thing on the internet.
Hilarious! A genius of the 20th and 21st Century. Perhaps the greatest living Philosopher in the world today.
Whether talking about divine omnipotence or a broken AC this man is truly eloquent.
So is that what he meant by his A/C Model? I always thought it stood for Aquinas/Calvin...
Haha I was wondering the same thing. In fact, Plantinga got Emails quite frequently asking him if his AC unit was working. If this video isn't an intentionally set up parody, then it would be the irony of all philosophical ironies.
