This was awesome GPU back then.
The L4D2 results speak for themselves :)
@@zWORMzGaming yeah
@@zWORMzGaming please do a Asus rog ally benchmark video Like you did with a steam deck
Left 4 dead 2 was a good game
Back Then.
Had a 8800GTS from Bfg, the most iconic design I've ever owned on a GPU ever, also it was a bomb, played Call Of Duty Modern Warfare so well. It takes me back because it was the most high-end GPU I've ever owned from any series, and it didn't cost me a kidney, good times.
dude, good times
8800 was king for so long
@@phalxorI had an MSI 8800 GT that I paid $230 for and it included The Witcher, what finally did that card in was moving to 1080p. Not enough VRAM to handle the resolution. I was really into Mafia 2 at the time and it was awfully slow.
It indeed costed a kidney in Latin America back in 2008-2010 and they burnt themselves to death.
Had the 8800 GT (upgraded from a GeForce 3 Ti 200, which I bought in early 2002). That card was a beast of a card for its time, and I paid for it less than $150... Insane!
Good old 8 series ❤️
yeah me too. crysis back then was benchmark and i run it on high 720p :>
@@kubixon28 Yeah, Crysis was (obviously) the first game that I tried after purchasing the 8800GT. 😁 It ran quite well for the time (although I was very CPU bottlenecked with the CPU I had at the time, which was an overclocked Core 2 Duo E 7200).
Ohhhhh I had a 8600 gts, crysis on medium/high was playable... sometimes not so much but I really loved that game!!! The remake didn't make it for me sadly...
I also had the Geforce 3 Ti 200 and swapped it to an Gainward 8600GT. It was just so much funnier playing games back then. :)
back when the prices for high end specs were actually a reasonable price was definitely a time to be alive
lol no, prices for a good gpu was in the 500+ range back then, some were even higher... if i remember correctly the 9600 gt had like 60-75% of the raw compute power of the flagship for 1/3 the cost
It was only ATI that was trying their hardest to undercut Nvidia and it almost killed them. Nvidia's top tier always was 500$+
first of all, 9600 GT wasn't at all "high end".
second, the equivalent value would be $250 today.
@@gozutheDJ milk was also under 4 dollars a gallon back then... can you use a less "rediculous" form of relevance based from a totally different time
@@mikeymaiku i’m pointing out the price differences aren’t actually that different lol
I have had this exact GPU back in 2009 in my first ever pc, as a kid. I remember playing alot of games back then, including GTA IV. Beautiful times man.
I also played GTA IV on this card, although it struggles. Barely can make 30fps on 1440*900
@@qikaigao3991 Mine was 1360x760. But yeah, different times
Thank you for this type of content !! I just boot some old pc with an hd3650 and was amazed of all I was able to play quiet smoothly.. keep the hard work you are the man, seeing some old stuff being back from the dead is so cool :D
"Good thing is, the new games are crap anyways and the older ones are much better"
I totally agree. Would love to see more older GPUs such as this one.
@Narkomancers lol yeah I can picture games getting even worse 😂

holy cow this was my first dedicated gaming gpu !
this single handedly carried me through my childhood gaming journey until it got fried during a thunderstorm.. still not sure how that happened
and fun fact, this has a wider bus width than the 4060ti lol
Loving the older card reviews Kryzzp. Excited for you to reach 500k!
Great Review thank you for posting. These old cards are very underrated. Keep up the awesome content.
I love all of your videos but there is something really cool about those videos when you test older gpus. It's just so interesting to see what they are capable of these days and to see that you can still have a lot of fun with them.
Fun video. Brought back some awesome memories. Thank you Kryzzp!
Wow! When Ark came out I was playing it on a 560 Ti. I remember how much difference there was between it at launch and years later playing on a GTX 970 but actually seeing it on low now is shocking. PC gaming has come a long way in a decade. I can't wait to see what ARK 2 looks like when it comes out.
This was my GPU back in 2009 had a Palit model paired with intel core 2 duo played the hell out of Far cry 2, Crysis, Dragon Age then Skyrim and so on, good memories man
Awesome video bro you're my favorite bench channel!
Great job man, I am happy that you do this work because I get to see what i need. I am greatful for you and thank you. Ive been watching for a while now and I am just confused of HOW MANY GPUs you have like how bro? Anyways, I just wanted to say thank you.
Oh man memories 😇, beautiful piece of hardware history, good old days 😍🥰
I remember running Crysis on an XFX Alpha Dog 8800GT 1GB, its been a while so I don't remember if the performance was any good though.
30 or so fps with a few dips.
Your intro makes me so happy, i always look forwards to new videos :)
wow,i appreciate your content and idk what gpu to take to be ok whit it,still nice to see you test old ones
"the newer games are crap anyways" sentence of the year
I got this GPU in my 2008 Retro PC. For old games, it runs fine I gotta say.
I've been waiting for this for so long
i really aprecciate that you tested this gpu dude! so fun, so cool i like this videos keep going my friend :D!
Thank you! Glad you enjoyed the video 😃
This takes me back to the eVGA 8800GT (single slot ) I bought when I built my first gaming pc back in 2008. Technology has evolved significantly in the last 15 years.
I have the GTS Version
@@athyderboss It was an amazing card for it's time I remember paying lots of Fallout 3 on that bad boy.
I've been waiting for this. This was the first card I had in my PC. I even got two of them so I swapped them when I wanted to
Ooo I should grab another one and try SLI!
@@zWORMzGaming Fantastic idea! I had a 7800GT with an SLI motherboard but I never got around to buying the second GPU. I always wondered how much extra performance I would have got.
@@zWORMzGaming I wanted to do so but I cannot get a mobo with two pcie connectors and I sold one of the cards as part of a computer. But doing SLI vids with old cards is a great idea
Very nostalgic! I enjoyed it :)
Speaking of old school, is the System Shock remake going to make the benchmark rotation?
Props for paying respect to dino month! I was a little irked when these cards came out because I was piecing together my Q6600 system paycheck-by-paycheck and the 9000 series came out a few months after I finished assembling it with an 8800GT. I've been on a huge retro kick lately and am having a hard time talking myself out of building a late-00s PC to go back and relive XP-era gaming.
Kryzzp I just want to say thank you for the videos that you make! And all the time and effort you put into making them. You are one of my favorite UA-camrs and I have been watching for over 2 years, and I can’t wait to watch this one! I’m sure it will be great as always! Thank you again my friend we are all very grateful for the content that you make! 🙂
Wow! Thank you so much for your support ❤️😃
@@zWORMzGaming we love zwormz
I used to play L4D and L4D2 on my laptop with 4gb of ram and a 9600m gt with 512gb of vram. I think the cpu was a core 2 duo p7450. It worked fairly well, until the thing heated up beyond the surface of the sun and everything started to get throttled. I believe the 9600m gt also only had ddr2 ram, but it was still my first real gpu.
Ah yes 512 GB VRAM. We have really downgraded ourselves.
Man kryzzp you never disappoint with a video its always nice to wake up to them it was nice seeing you test out gta 4 since it's really a demanding game and black ops 2 man you really took me back yo the fun good old times on the 360
I remember having a PC with dual GPUs from that series. It was so good! Lasted me for about 6 years with World of Warcraft, some Skyrim, Far Cry, GTA 4 etc. It was on XP, so RAM was limited. But it was a smooth experience for that time period of gaming. I can't remember exactly what card it was in dual, but damn I enjoyed it.
Yes, I was gaming during a time when mid range cards were $200 and were thin and compact and could be powered by a single 6pin.
I miss those times. Good video.
you realize $200 then is $300 now right?
Hmm. So, maybe 1996-2004 is the GPU Triassic, 2005-2010 is the Jurassic, 2011-2015 is the Cretaceous?
Perfect 😃
i have a amd radeon hd 7700 from 2012 also my current pc have rx 470
Looking forward to more retro videos, thank!
Man i really Love your Videos they're always Fantastic btw I had this card back then I had alot of fun with it was a beast of a card for me .. Your my favourite youtuber i've never seen Any one put this much effort then u bro I hope You Reach 1m asap ..
Thank you so much!! 🥰
I wish I had a 9600GT back in 2008, I was chugging along with a G103M which was terrible. Actually that was 2009 I think, I had a mobility Radeon card that got 4 fps in L4D1 in 2008 🤣
Another painful but exciting Sunday video 😅
Not as painful as newer games honestly ahahah
Yeah 👍
Yeah the prices gotta change man, I am stuck on a 1050 and getting a new gpu is a big no for me. I wish more people would stand up to nvidia and amd and not buy the new gpus until they start reasonably pricing their products.
so a 200 dollar rx 6600 which would lap your 1050 20x over is a bad deal to you?
@@gozutheDJ Yeah the 6600 is so much better than my 1050, yes no doubt. This gpu is 200 usd used (on my market), so god knows what it was used for these days. Still not a bad thing but in the not so distant times I used to buy a part and use it for many years to come. Now, if I'd but that card, how long will it last with the incompetence of the game devs and those insane requirements? In a year or two how will my 200 usd go down?
@@pidojaspdpaidipashdisao572yeah but you can’t be playing the kind of games you’re worried about on a 1050? theres a lot of fear mongering going around
@@gozutheDJ well if i'd upgrade i would expect to be able to play everything with decent visuals for a few years. When the 3070 came out I wanted to upgrade but the price on the local market was almost 800 usd (converted). Which was an instant no for me. I always tend to go for nvidia even though I play games on linux. Because for me nvidia cards never failed in any case. The amd cards I usually don't even look at because all of my amd cards have failed in one way. The nvidia gives a nice performance but the price hit that comes is pretty hefty. Before this 1050 i had a rx 570 which would just give me screen issues. It would turn off the display and give the windows disconnect sound and would turn it on again and it would keep doing that in a loop, the one after was a 1060 which was a card to beat. It could run everything and I paid less than 150 usd what 5 years ago? That card can still game. Even if this 6600 does live 5 years from now to be a decent card, will it still be comparable to the 1060? No because I paid less than 150 usd for it and this one goes a bit above 200 usd here. So if they last the same the price is higher for the newer card. Again I don't know if amd improved, they might have but I'm just not buying their card again. That's my view, so still something has to change and there is no fear mongering here it's just a realistic view. The 3070 used goes for around 300 usd here, now if that card holds for another 5 years like my previous 1060, will it be value? No, again here I'm paying 300 usd and that one was half the price. Do you see the problem here?
When released, the 9600GT was an excellent mid-range card, over 2x faster than the previous mid-range card the 8600GT.
It was twice s fast than the best ATI one core card for its time but also even cheaper. 9600GT was the best budget solution one could dream for.
yes, lots of fun memories, i vividly remember playing with this gpu. It was a monster, blaitenly complaisant to say the least
9600GT is very similar to GT710 for older game
no wonder this is good GPU back then
No its not as far as remember back then. Gt710 gt610 gt 210 basically same card. And there alot differences gt 210 and gt 9600
@@aatthaa what are you talking about?
210, GT610 and GT710 are different card not even same architecture.
210 is around 25% of GT710
@@arms08yuki84 yeah u right i mistake it. Seems my memory is rusted. Maybe it from amd/ati.
Show us your favorite GPU model of all time and benchmark it
Nice, i still have 2 of these cards, the triple x alpha dog edition's of the msi gt 9600 for and old SLI setup
Bro Far Cry 3 is probably my mostly favorite game ever because when it released it was so fun, it has an awesome story and is still enjoyable to this day. Amazing game all round and so easy to run
Ah como eu esperava por este vídeo, uma placa tão velha e capaz de rodar alguns games mais novos com boa performance até, muito bom
Esses jogos testados são super velhos. Lógico que rodariam razoavelmente bem
Why do brazilians always reply in portuguese? Don't you guys study english at school?
@@randomuser3314 because we can, se vira aí pra entender.
This was a solid card back in the day. I owned 2 ran them in SLI mode for a while. Very overclockable too. Even ran Crysis at acceptable settings.
Damn.... this is my First ever gpu when building my pc at 12 years old, thanks for doing this, so much memories with this card
hey cryzp love your vids man keep up the good work .. I am thinking about buying a 4060 laptop... I want 60 fps high settings 1080p in AAA titles what do you think
awesome video , i played gta 4 on 1650 ti with graphics mod , surprisingly no stutters good
The 8800GTX is a legend. The 9600GT was okay back then.
i surprisingly like this content alot, but i've noticed you dont really have any videos on the 2gb variant of the rx550 (my current) or any videos on the rx 460. im running an optiplex with a 4th gen i5 and the prices of the rx6400 and gtx1650 heck even the 1050ti are way too expensive right now, so maybe a video on the rx 460 would probably help me decide which gpu to purchase when i have money. thanks kryzzp!
Yoo Kryzzp great timing for this video!
I have a mobile variant of an AMD Radeon dinosaur in my mother's old HP Pavilion G6 that is exactly similar to this 9600gt in performance! (7670M)
I was wondering about its limits when this vid popped up.
im 37 years old and i enjoy every bit of your videos
tnx!!! i even downloaded most of your vid to watch while in cubed (trains) haha
Do you usually update MSI Afterburner? Sorry for being off-topic.
I've had one of these in my pc for a few years, it served me really well and really impressed me.
I've used at the time a 900p monitor, and the fan died. But I did some makeshift coolers over the years that kept me going until I wanted to play overwatch... A few year later I got a 1050 ti and a i5 7400
You should do one with a 9800GT 1GB DDR3. I remember being able to play GTA IV pretty smoothly with on and a Core 2 Duo E7500.
I had one of these, loved it at the time.
Oh Mann , you bring me back in the old times ♥
Had the XFX 1 GB version that served well for 7 years until upgrading to a GTX 970. A few months back wanted to make a Retro Windows XP SSD build with it, but sadly a capacitor popped and the card retired forever. Put the 970 instead with modded drivers, after finding out that GT cards available in the market (210, 610, 710, 730) are not an upgrade from it. As you said, GTX 750 Ti or such was the direct upgrade from this, other series could be skipped.
The 8800 GTX and 9800 GT were beasts too, but 9600 GT was the best bang for buck back in 2008-09.
What a beautiful graphic 😭😭😭😭. This graph helped me in the pandemic to keep me entertained
I had Zotac version, also 512MB. Replaced only when framebuffer become a problem but friend of mine use it for at least two years later until it finally died from probably combination of terrible Zotac cooler and supstrate issues nvidia had at that time.
A year ago I was planning to use this for a low-end PC, but I instead used the RTX 4090 because it has a Displayport connection.
I already be happy playing Warcraft 3 on that thing, you could also play Starrcraft II, SPellforce 2, even Crysis was possible to play with that card at low/mid.
Lineage 2, Half-Life 2, Dune 2000, The Sims 2 (3 maybe), BioShock, Unreal Tournament 2004 (perfectly), Quake 4, Lineage 2, WoW, COD 3,...
It was a big jump in the game library having this card and the price making PC-gaming accessible to everyone world-wide.
8800GT was the true monster of performance back in the day but that one cost ton of money (600$ MSRP) and this new 9000 series lower prices to half or less.
very detailed benchmark, i'm impressed, lots of effort was put into making it, looking for & waiting for team fights in dota 2, multiplayer battles in bf3, explanations about differences versus console, explanations about gta 4
about gt 710 - 9600 GT 512MB is actually ~20% faster than gt 710 , though gt 710 have 1GB of VRAM so that may come into play too in some games
about gt 630m - 9600 GT 512MB is actually ~20% faster than gt 630m (so you were not wrong about noticing it!), though gt 630m have 2GB of VRAM so that may come into play too in some games
i used to have 9800 GT and don't know much about 9600 GT other than it's a decent bit weaker model than 9800 GT, but i know that it's still stronger than lots of laptop gpus and some non gaming desktop gpus which you also mentioned
i also know that 9800 GT can easily be flashed to above than 9800 GTX+ performance (did that for mine through nibitor back in the days)
so perhaps 9600 GT can get some decent boost through flashing as well, not sure though.
I remeber upgrading my 8600GT to a 9800GSO. Loved that card and the general era of PC hardware.
Man i used to love my 8800gt lol i still havenit in my closet. Things were beast back then, crazy how much things have changed.
greqt video as always
can you try the quadro 2000m lol its so bad but its a good idea ig.
love the old 1 slot design :)
I had two of these in sli. A little stuttery sometimes but it doubled the performanced almost always.
With the games that you have a problem with the cursor appearing, something I do which helps many times is to alt+tab in and out of the game when the cursor stops appearing.
this make me back the good memories
ahh 9600GT! feeling nostalgic. Have one in my core 2 duo E8400 system. Brand was ECS. Hella smooth card i must say.
19:03 every time I hear this I get chills haha. And also every time I see a system run Crysis I’m like: “wait… no. It’s running, that’s not supposed to happen!” 🤣
aahh awsome nostalgic to see that card.more of this please.
Can't believe you uploaded a video on this card, I owned a gt 9600 few years ago and the only thing I didn't like was no dx11 later I bought quadro 600 just because of that reason
If it had DX11 support it would be capable of playing valorant and Fortnite for sure!
Both games had dx10 versions but then removed them... Sad
@@zWORMzGaming Yes that's very true
my first GPU was gtx760, now i have 1660s.
i will NEVER regret my choices. at least for my budget. the 760 was BEAST for at least 5 years
Your videos are so unique!
I remember paying £199 for my BFG 8800GT OC and that was one step below the highest performing card the 8800GTX/Ultra. How times change 😢
I had one of these Asus-branded fully passive cooling and was amazing
This card definitely put the older console generation line up to shame back then.
I used to have this card and a phenom 2 1045t overclocked to 4.2ghz with 16 gigs of ddr2 and trust me since you have a much newer faster cpu all this runs 2-3x better lol. About 25-40fps difference. Pretty much all games I played was a mediocre experience back then. 20 fps in Crysis at medium. 20fps in GTA 4. 30fps on normal in Modern Warfare 2. 30fps Skyrim. but also at the time I was running games on a 1050p monitor. You just weren't cool if you had a tiny monitor back then xD Was a beautiful picture monitor though (probably the best picture I ever seen even today) though I believe it was a Sony one that had the liquid Crystial in it? Idr but it was sick. Some of this might be way off on my part because it was so long ago, but keep on making great content!
I had the XFX 8800GT 512MB. Really was outstanding performance and value for money. Ended up putting 2 of them in SLi paired with a Core 2 Quad Q6600. Never had love for a PC like I did that one.
Its kinda funny the Mouse cursor in dota 2 looks like a candy corn from holloween in the United States. The cursor just reminds me of that in dota 2
I had an HD 3850, the direct competitor to this card, and it would be amazing to see how it fares in those games!
heyy kryzzp(um salve do brasil).i've noticed that in the minecraft recent versions there is a major issue while rendering chunks, and if you play in a server, the game works just fine without stutters at all.
I had that graphics card ;-; I got 1070 now and planning to buy 3070 very soon for cyberbug dlc
Seus vídeos são muitos bons, apesar de entender uns 30% somente do inglês, agradeço muito pelo seu trabalho, tenho uma dúvida, você é brasileiro?😊
Yooo it's the XFX one with green DVI ports! And back when XFX did cards for Nvidia... Good times
Bro love your videos! Can u make a intel hd 2500 video pls.
I just want to test my cpu 😅
I miss those times, that's when I started pc gaming, had started with a 8400gs, then upgraded to a 9800gt
Played Mass Effect, GTA 4, SA-MP, APB, RE5, Dead Space, Mirror's Edge, Borderlands....I feel like these games had better atmosphere, simplier etc.
Also everything was cheaper to buy.
Things are cheaper with slave labor.
very nice video!
I still have a 9600 GSO version and a 9800 GT. Got the 9600 just for a free game bundled with it. Both only 512mb of vram. But the 9800 GT ran Arkham Asylum so good back then!
i played farcry 2 and 3 with a core 2 duo and intel graphics back in the day.....when times were tough
This was probably the most common card at the time other than the good old 8800 which was a beast. I had an AMD Athlon 64x2 6000+ (3ghz dual core) system at the time and ran an ATI 4890 HD. Thing was an absolute beast with Windows 7 and 4GB of ram 😂. Time flies.
Still have a 8600GTS around with box, driver cd, PCIE power adapter and both VGA to DVI adapter and of cause, fully working.
I love these video's more than the new gpu reviews 😂
I finished Crysis on that exact model, sold it years ago.
I remember owning a similar gpu than this in my first pc build with an athlon 64 in it. Now I have a 13900k and a 7900xtx oh how times have changed lol.
The 9600 GT was a cut down 9800 GT. It was as close to an 8800/9800 you could get without actually having one. My card came overclocked and performed very closely to the 8800 GT.
My first gaming pc in 2008 have gt 9600 + Intel core 2 duo E6600 + 4GB ddr2. Even at the time I had a bad experience with that gpu, in fact i changed it immediately (almost a year later) with the gtx 285 + i7 920.
That is quite the upgrade. According to tech powered up the 285 is 248% of the performance of the 9600GT. Personally I had the 8800GTS I upgraded to a Radeon 6850 which is about as good as the 285. Back the. You could get massive improvements in performance. These days gen if you wait 5 years you won’t even get double the performance.
