This explains why we find so many eyes in the base game. Many demigods and Gods turn away from the erdtree. Remember even Marika plucked out her eye, but she didn't crush it like Mesmer did. Melenia's eyes rotted away. Maliketh's eyes were plucked out too, as well as regent beast lord serosh's. Blindness symbolizes free will.
So for those that kept one, are they only half free?

For my first time I had a sense of dread, horror, *shock* , and a bit of sadness too.
The way Messiner speaks, the shakiness at the end especially, its almost like he's suffering as a puppet but it's all he knows so he just does what he does with no feeling. Not even hatred, just an abyss painfully carved into someone and given the power and strength to not drop on the spot.
Messimer is an absolute *MONSTER* and it was so beautifully crafted

Yeah, it’s a real shame. It’s fascinating seeing the fanboys cope about how below average the ending fight was compared to even regular Dark Souls bosses, and how they don’t want to accept any other possibility for a better ending.

I cringed so hard when he ripped his eye out the phantom pain was real even if it happened off screen the sound was more then enough just ouch.
Absolute worst Fromsoft DLC lore-wise. The Radahn-Miquella thing is confirmed to be true, out of ALL the lore in the base game this wasn't even partially hinted at. Will not be getting the DLC personally, huge huge huge disappointment. No Godwyn, the least we could get is a face-off with Miquella only but he's essentially just Radahn's sweater at this point. Way to ruin such an interesting character. Mesmer should've been the final boss. Much more interesting.
