One way to make your yarn/garment softer is to freeze it. Put it in a plastic bag and put it in the freezer for one full day. The low temperatures will cause the split ends in the yarn to fall away, making it softer and less scratchy.
Thank you for a wonderful episode Bobbi. Your intro showing your knits folded lovingly in the drawer was charming. You do such a great job of highlighting patterns and yarns - and thats what I love in a knitting podcast! Thank you for talking about Lion Brand, its good to remember that we can use affordable yarns. Waving hello from 🇨🇦
I’ve been using the Lion Brand Respekt yarn for sweaters for my family. I’m knitting the Lowther sweater by Lotta Lothgren. It calls for worsted weight and it is the best fabric! It gives good stitch definition for the fake cables and is super comfy! We are the Lowther family- so I thought it would be appropriate that each of my five kids have a Lowther sweater!
Hi Sue! Thank you for the review of the Re-Tweed yarn! You are the second viewer who has commented that they love knitting with it. I’m going to cast on the Winter Beach Cardi with the Re-Tweed today! What a lovely gesture to knit all 5 of your children the Lowther sweater! You’re amazing! Thank you so much for commenting and for watching! 🙏❤️
Hope you don't give up on Wool of the Andes! I watched a vlogger last month, and she said that if you are itching from wool when you normally aren't, that means it's not cold enough to wear it. That made sense to me. Right now I'm working on a sweater with WOTA, and I have to put it down for a while, I can't knit with wool in the summer heat and humidity, even with the AC on, it feels like knitting with barb wire, and I live in Minnesota! I also soak my sweaters in warm water with a little hair conditioner in the water, it softens it up. Enjoy your channel. I like the detail you talk about in your makes.
You are such a beautiful person inside and out! I come away from each video so inspired and ready to knit all the things! I love everything you knit and the colors you choose are sooooo classy! I can't wait to get started on a new project...which one? So many to choose from. Wish me luck!
Hi Susan! Thank you so much!❤️ You are so sweet! I’m currently swatching for the Winter Beach Cardi, but I really want to cast on the Diana Bandana. I know there are so many patterns I want to knit. Thank you for watching and for the lovely compliment! 😊❤️
Hi Bobbi, you are such a sweetheart. I always love your podcasts and it makes my day when I get to spend time with you. Thank you so much for all the work you put on your episodes and for sharing such great patterns, options and yarns with us. ❤
Bobby you are such a beautiful knitter! I love it when you give us tips on how to have a neater result with our knitting. For instance today it was twist knit a k1p1 (or k2p2 etc). Thankyou so much!
Hello Bobbi … Thank you for sharing with us your favourite patterns for fall. Your choices are beautiful and I’ve enjoyed hearing your views on all of them. I just wanted to mention that Knit Picks Wool of the Andes is 100% wool… there’s no Alpaca in it. Also, while watching this show😊, I’m knitting the Autumn League pullover for my granddaughter’s 18th birthday and it’s like you said, just the softest yarn. But… it’s definitely DK, not worsted. I’m sorry for correcting you but I wouldn’t want your viewers to be thinking the cotton jeans yarn would be good for other “worsted” projects they may have in mind. Because it is very nice yarn. I wish I didn’t have to buy it from the USA as its not available in Canada, but it is so worth it. 😅
LisaR: If the Alpaca isn't " dehaired" , a process that removes the longer prickly coat ,, then alpaca will feel itchy . That said, you might check with manufacturer. Also, baby alpaca is softest . I have to say that dehaired alpaca is as soft as cashmere in my experience ❤Gorgeous projects!
I have knit the Felix Pullover twice with my handspun yarn. It is such a comfortable sweater and the yarn is so soft. The last one was a merino/silk blend. I have wanted to knit the Autumn League, but for some reason I didn't like the pattern. Now, that it is top down and in the round... I'm going to spin some yarn and knit that baby up. I'm thinking a nice autumnal color. Here's hoping the temperature in Florida drops below 90 degrees some time so I can enjoy my knits.
Thank you for another wonderful video! I enjoy your videos very much, the feeling of talking to a good friend who is so knowledgeable and so patient with me. For the knit picks neck wear, you can sew on a piece of fabric inside, say an old silk scarf, to block the direct contact of skin.
Hello! Great idea to put a lining in the cowl! I’ll do it! You’re inspiring me too. Thank you so much for watching, for the lovely comment and for the great suggestion to line my cowl. 😊❤️
Hi Bobbi- thanks for another enjoyable video. I have Knit Picks Wool of the Andes in both dyed and bare undyed. Mine all say 100% Peruvian Highland wool so I assume that means sheep wool and not alpaca. It is a rustic wool and so I always wear something under sweaters made with it. There are so many beautiful , soft yarns in the world….you are probably just best to use something else to knit with- life is too short!!
I love your attention to details and especially your opinion on yarns. Like you, I have to be very picky about wool content in garments I wear because most make me itch. I truly appreciate your honesty and different options you suggest. I love all your patterns and have made the Ilha. Love that pattern. ❤️ thank you for another wonderful video.
I'm so pleased to have discovered your channel. As a result, I've knit the Ilha top and love it. Your knitting is beautiful, and I look forward to many more enabling episodes. Best wishes, Roberta
Hi, Bobbi! I really enjoy your podcast. We have very similar tastes in sweaters. I have the kit for the autumn league pullover and I bought the winter beach cardigan when Andrea had her birthday sale. I'm also going to use the lion brand yarn. I love in South Eastern NC so wool yarns are not applicable. I'm busy Knitting Christmas gifts. I'm about to finish the Italian Summer Scarf in a cotton do yarn. Happy Knitting!
Hi…. love your podcast. For the cowl try soaking it in Eucalan woolwash for about 1/2 to 1 hour, then either squeezing it out or spinning it out. DO NOT RINSE. I love the stuff and use it all the time. Good luck!
Love your podcasts. Very nice that you talk about the yarns and modifications as well as pattern difficulty. I really like your fall suggestions! Thanks
Thank you so much for showing us all those lovely sweaters. Currently I am finishing my second ranunculus, this time with long sleeves. And I bought the pattern for the ILHA sweater as my next project. Haven't decided on the yarn yet, as my local yarnshop is reopening on monday!😊 Have a lovely time knitting! I enjoy your podcast so much! Love from Bavaria, Germany!❤
I just love your channel. I get so many new ideas, tips and suggestions from you. I love all the sweaters and how you talk about the patterns and yarn in detail. You have become one of my favorites! You are such a good knitter. Your items are beautiful. Thanks so much for the video. 🧶
Hi Karen! You are so kind! Thank you so much for your lovely comment! I’m so excited to get these fall patterns started! I just cast on the Winter Beach Cardi. I do love cables. Thank you for watching! 😊❤️
It’s always so nice to have a visit from you! I cannot tolerate mohair, ever the priciest ones make me itch! But, alpaca is soft and comfy as can be! Funny how we all have our little quirks.
Maybe try soaking it in fabric softener and see if it’s less scratchy to you? I had a wool blend I soaked twice and then I wore it fine, and before that I wouldn’t have worn it. Good luck and pretty knits
For the cowl, have you tried human hair conditioner. Some say to put vinegar in the rinse water as it is a water softener. Dont think about using the yarn again. You dont want to worsen your allergy to animal fibres. Order more Noro and re-knit the sleeves to cut out further irritation.
I made that same sweater as you with the Lion Brand cotton jeans in a darker blue. The stretchy issue annoys me. I wish I had gone a size down for that reason. I wouldn't use it again. I will stick to cotton mixed with another fiber. I really liked that pattern though. I would make it again.
Okay, I’m going to stick my foot in it again. I wonder if one could keep on knitting the ozetta kerchief a lot bigger ( just keep on knitting) and make a shawl out of it. That way you would have a double sided shawl. I’m going to quit now. 😂
Your knits are beautiful. Lovely work. You could be allergic to alpaca. But knitpicks wool of the Andes does not have any alpaca in it, it is 💯 Peruvian highland wool. It’s a pretty rustic, rough wool and I find it fairly scratchy too and I’m not usually sensitive to wool at all.
I believe this is the first podcast I have watched that quoted Winnie the Poo. Cute. I enjoy seeing all of your knitted sweaters. You are a great inspiration to us all. I am just finishing my last summer knit - the Tolsta tee and can't wait to knit the heavier garments.
Hi Bobbie, really enjoyed your conversation today!! I’m ready for fall too and my sister and I are knitting the Weekender by Andrea Mowry!! It’s a KAL with Cadyjax. But we’re having a big event here in the Pacific Northwest. It’s the PNW fiber Expo in Port Angeles, Washington on Sept 30andOct 1. We have over 40 vendors and lots of classes. We can’t wait to see all the beautiful new yarn. We’d love to see you all there
What a gorgeous cowl! I am so sorry it does not agree with your sensitivity. Surely someone will be very, very blessed if you gift it. Strangest thing . . . I used to be super sensitive to wools. I would get itchy eyes when in a yarn shop where others were knitting with it . . . and I would get itchy and break out in a rash on my hands when trying to knit with it myself. Then came Covid . . . and though I suffered much with that, I now can knit with and be around wools no end. Only downside . . . after regaining my sense of smell, I am now terribly sickened by the smell of lavender. [But I will take that trade off!]
Oh my goodness! I’m glad you can knit with all the wool, but I’m sorry you had to go through Covid. So glad you’re doing well and enjoying knitting! Thank you so much for commenting and watching my little podcast! 😊❤️
Hi Bobbi , your presentation is superb, so pleasant to watch. Is that a cedar chest ? Maybe put in lavendar sachets to keep the moths away. I'm knitting the IHLA pullover for my daughter in Drops alpaca and kid silk, very soft. All your choices are good. Greetings from Bavaria 🥨🍻
Good morning, thank you for another great episode. I have experience the discomfort of Peruvian wool. I believe Knit picks and Plymouth yarn use Peruvian wool. Something to think about. Love your Dahlia cardigan!

Beautiful knits! I love the Noro in the Felix cardigan. Doesn’t linen quill have alpaca? Just wanted to put that out there since you are having a reaction to it next to skin and Diana’s bandanna knit in it could feel scratchy. I can’t wear Alpaca next to skin either, unless it is baby alpaca or Suri.
I made some fingerless mitts that go halfway to my elbow years ago in some bfl yarn. Every time I put them on I wanted to scratch all the skin on my arms off. I tried everything to soften them up but nothing worked. I still don’t buy bfl yarn very much.
I’m getting so much inspiration from you! It is recharging my knitting motivation. I had planned to make the winter league pull over next and now I will add the autumn league pullover to my que. The cotton jeans yarn has impressive reviews. Your camisoles are so pretty, would you mind sharing the brand and where you buy them? Thank you 😊
Hi Bobbi! I love your podcast and love all of your knitting. I have just ordered the Lion Brand wool for the Autumn League sweater. I hope it turns out as good as yours. I was wondering where you get those beautiful camisoles you wear under your sweaters? They are the perfect length. Thank you.
Hello! Let me check on the camisoles. I do know I purchased 3 of them from Amazon. I’ll look into it further and send you the links. Thank you so much for the lovely comment and thank you for watching! I’ll get back to you soon. 😊❤️

Wool of the Andies is very scratchy for me. I made my first brioche project, a cowl, with it because it is a good price point and I didn't want to waste my good yarn if I made a total mess. Well, the cowl turned out beautiful but unwearable. 😥 I will never buy it again. All varieties of this yarn, except the tweed, are 100% Peruvian wool. The tweed is 80% Peruvian and 20% Donegal. There is no alpaca in any of those listed on KnitPicks. PS Drops added a couple of sophie scarf knock offs that are really cute. They are both moss stitch - one with lace edging, the other without. One is called Notions of Spring and the other is Pink-a-licous. The are both free patterns.
Wonderful podcast once again Bobby 😊 the Lion Brand Retweed is a good yarn. I have made a woven shawl, and a knitted one. It doesn't split too much. It's warm and soft to the touch and next to skin.
Hello! Thank you for the review of the Re-Tweed yarn. I can’t wait to cast on the Winters Beach Cardi using the Re-Tweed!! Thank you so much for the lovely comment and for watching! 😊❤️

I watch cozy up podcast (three sisters in Alberta). They love the Autumn League and they also rave about the yarn.

Hello! Beautiful work, as always!
Could you please post a Ravelry link to the last sweater? I love it but couldn’t find it by name.
Try some hair conditioner on your cowl. It works for some scratchy yarns. Hope I haven’t given you another bad tip. 😊
Lovely knits..love your idea for using nature for color choices. Would you recommend the Felix Cardigan for someone who has never made a sweater?
I’m getting so much inspiration from you! It is recharging my knitting motivation. I had planned to make the winter league pull over next and now I will add the autumn league pullover to my que. The cotton jeans yarn has impressive reviews.

Hi Bobbi, although I haven’t tried it yet, I’ve heard to soften wool you can soak it in hair conditioner. Makes sense to me. 😊
Use hair conditioner. A tip by Lily Chin
I purchased a lot of the Lion Bran Retweet/d I’m very disappointed. It’s very weak yarn. You can pull and snap it very easily. 😢
Hi Dianne! I’m finding that out. It has little short ends every now and then like it’s breaking. It’s fraying. If that makes sense. Thank you for the review on the Re-Tweed. Thanks for watching! 😊❤️
